Hi! Call me Cer, or Cerberus, and I’ve impulsively thrown myself down this rabbithole of writing a choicescript game while juggling a degree and work in quarantine. Fun times!
Set in a world of scattered cities and sharp-toothed monsters, you are a hunter employed by the Vanguard, tasked with exterminating dangerous beasts and keeping people safe. In theory, it’s a fairly straightforward job. Of course, nothing is ever as easy as it seems.
Here’s the thing, see: the more monsters in an area, the more reality fractures around it. For reasons unbeknownst to you, you are an Anchor, born with an ability to ground the people around you, lest you lose them to the insidious magic of the wilds.
For better or for worse, what you do matters .
Don’t make the same mistake twice.
Snakeroot is a fantasy game with horror elements, set in a world that has integrated magic with modern technology. It’s a delicate balance to strike, and one that has fallen into disarray ever since the affliction known as the Rot reared its head twenty years ago.
The Vanguard says they found you five years ago, wandering outside the walls. What were you doing there?
- Play as a human, chimaera, merperson, or shifter!
- Play as male, female, or non-binary, and choose your own pronouns.
- Choose your weapons, develop your magic and a unique skillset!
- Navigate the world of Snakeroot alongside three romanceable companions! Two of them can have their gender determined by the player, and the third is a AFAB trans man!
- Meet the challenges of your newest adventure head-on! Better sharpen your claws, hunter.
Currently, everything’s very rough as I get a better feel of the story I want to tell. I’m juggling a few things at once so progress isn’t as steady as I’d like, but I’ll get there! If something strikes you as particularly unclear or you have general constructive feedback to offer, I’d love to hear it!

RO Descriptions
Mallory Hart. he/him, trans man. Wavy dark hair, undercut. Olive skin, a crooked million-watt grin, brown eyes. 5’6" and athletic, built like a gymnast. A chimaera of demonic descent; horns that curl backwards, a long tail that ends with with a wickedly sharp point. A faded scar running from bridge of nose to jaw. Uses an enchanted prosthetic left leg.
A hunter renowned for his skill on the battlefield. He has a generally sunny sort of disposition: friendly, playful, and warm. Out of field gear, he’s rather fond of colourful sweaters or printed button-downs.
–
Raine Hart. gender variable. Straight dark hair with a silver streak, sometimes tied back. Gold eyes. 6’ without heels. A lanky sort of build, almost willowy. A chimaera of demonic descent like their younger brother, but with slightly finer horns that point more upwards than backwards. A few piercings on their ears.
A doctor who prefers not to venture out beyond the city limits. Amiable but reserved, they are particularly talented with magic, and also an absolutely hopeless workaholic. Rarely seen out of professional attire, but otherwise the type to favour black turtlenecks.
–
Lux. gender variable. Curly brown hair, roughly chin-length. Deep tan skin, dappled with light purple-white fish scales. 6’3", broad-shouldered, stocky and fit. Purple eyes. A Siren who sticks to their two-legged form for ease of mobility across land, but can unfurl to a startling 12+ft of shark-type merperson in open water.
A fellow field agent, occasional hunter & protection specialist. Prefers to dress comfortably; big fan of trying to wear hoodies and sweatpants on the job. Habitual thrill-seeker and terrifyingly bold fighter. Honest. Blunt. And no, they’re not going to sing on request.
