Shadow of the Eagles

Speaking of which I remember that you said somewhere that you had plans for 20 games in the infinity series if you had enough money. Could you expand on those ideas so that I can dream of what could have been

Could have been?

I’m still gonna make them all if I have time… If I ever have enough money to retire on, I’d still just keep making games.

In between the open-world RPG, the turn-based grand strategy game, the roguelite dungeon crawler, the real time grand strategy game… I’d have a lot to do.

The nazis were a foreign enemy that was defeated. The communists were domestic and got away with their crimes. I think it’s only natural to hate the communists more, even if the nazis were worse. It’s not whitewashing, I’ve got more than enough hate to go around.

This is honesty such a Wild statement and Comes from a Place of Entitlement.

Economist Utsa Patnaik’s long-term study estimates $45 trillion was siphoned out of India between 1765–1938.

India didn’t get paid for its exports; instead, Britain used Indian revenue to buy Indian goods and pocketed the profit.

They Used India As a Market for their Industrial Revolution by putting huge Tarrifs on Indian Textiles while zero on British goods. If that was not enough they even physically destroyed indian textile industries.

Under British rule, India had the worst famine record in the world.

Between 1765–1947, over 30 million Indians died in famines.

Taxation were as high as-

50–60% of their produce in Bengal

Up to 70% under the Ryotwari system

To pay tax, peasants had to borrow money, lose land, and become laborers. It was basically slavery but in British ā€œCivilized Termsā€.

By 1947, 75% of Indians lived below subsistence level.

They Forced Indian Farmers to Grow Indigo and Opium and Cotton and Traded it for Dirt cheap prices to Feed their Industrial Revolution while destorying the farmers livehood who were forced to abandon their Sustainable farming for commercial farming but not paid enough to sustain it.

They created the zamindar system which was just slavery in corporate forms. They Massacred Sikhs in Punjab during their Holy Festival.

They did not allow India to have any heavy industry until 1930’s.

I have many words to say about this take and not one of them is nice.

Of course you do. Feel free to express them, I have traveled the political spectrum from right to left not through a change of values, but from educating myself on the values held by others in those spaces, so I’m interested in what you have to say. Thought perhaps it’d be best not to spam this thread.

The problem with the colonialist argument that ā€œThe British built the railroadsā€ (also applied to the Japanese in Korea, the Russians in Central Asia, and the PRC in East Africa) is that those railroads were built not to serve the locals, but to extract resources from them.

The same principle applies to politics and economic systems too. A lot of post-colonial ethnic unrest comes from social distinctions and geographical borders drawn by colonial powers. A lot of the dysfunction in post-colonial economies comes from the fact that those economies were designed to serve a foreign overlord. A lot of the reason why so many post-colonial countries fall into dictatorship is because their former overlords suppressed or arrested or murdered anyone who could build maintain a strong tradition of democratic self-rule, while promoting the future dictators as favoured enforcers.

India in particular is kind of a salient example of multiple aspects of this, because the British basically used the extracted wealth from India (and Jamaica) to prop up the rest of the British Empire - as in the rest of the Empire lost money. That was why the British tried to hold on for so long, and why decolonisation became a given after India became independent.

At the same time, the fact that Britain needed to rule India on the cheap meant that they were somewhat more lenient with the development of local political institutions (The Indian National Congress - founded by a former British colonial official - was the biggest example of this). As much as I’ve criticised the Indian Independence Movement already, I also think the fact that there was already a political establishment committed to free(-ish) elections ready to take the reins meant that India was able to maintain a much more stable record (relatively) than many other post-colonial states.

I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt and not presume that you are sealioning/motte-and-baileying.
I do not believe it’s ā€˜natural’ to equivocate between Communism and an Ideology that demanded the murder of Hundreds of Millions of people on no basis but that of self-contradictory Ultranationalism and Racialist Pseudoscience, to say no. Under a Nazi world-conception I cannot be allowed to live because I am a Slav. Because I am a ā€˜Racial Jew’. Because I am Queer. Because I am Autistic. I cannot do anything about these qualities that would have condemned me to death were I born under a Nazi Regime. I can’t choose to not be any one of these things, they came with being born. Of course, I would not be born under a Nazi regime considering that it’s a genuine miracle that my Maternal Great-Grandparents managed to survive the War when most of their family members did not. Genocide is a core component of Nazi Ideology.

Were I born under the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic, I would not have faced the threat of death for the crime of being born. There is no core Ideological or Philosphical component of Communism that demands Genocide. Of course, I am told all my life about the SlĆ”nský Trial and the persecution of Jews under Gottwald, about how the Secret Police blackmailed Homosexuals, how the Roma were persecuted and sterilized, that the Communists would have ā€œbeaten the Autism out of meā€ and that I should be grateful to the Anti-Communists of yesteryear for all the Opportunities, Rights and Liberties they won for ungrateful, lazy children like me.

And yet, Gottwald died in 1953, the StB’s torturers were muzzled and SlĆ”nský was also a Communist, reviled and only brought up to paint the image of a ceaseless ā€œSecond Holocaustā€, decontextualized at best as an apolitical victim.

Homophobia was not invented in 1948 and it did not disappear in 1989. Homosexuality was decriminalized in 1960 and Trans Rights started slowly creeping into the system, only to face an avalanche of formented hatred and legal struggles. Were Queers any better off in the West than in the East? No, I didn’t think so. Queer Dissidents did not become dissidents because the StB blackmailed them for no reason other than their Queerness, but because they were Dissidents who happened to be Queer and because Queerness was unacceptable to the rest of the Opposition. Or to simplify: Queerphobia was not brought about by State Policy. State Policy was shaped by the presence of Queerphobia.

Were the Romani forcibly settled into what were effectively Segregated ghettoes? Were Romani Women sterilized without their consent? Of course they were. Indisputably. Did Antiziganism appear from nowhere in 1948? Has there been any notable improvement in the lives of the Romani since 1989? Has action been taken to curtail the period bouts of racist violence againt them? Were the Sterilizations State Policy and not individual abuses of power? Have the Sterilizations stopped? No.

Were Autists any better off elsewhere in the 50s? The 60s? The 70s? The 80s? The 90s? The 00s? Whatever it was that I actually needed in my childhood, I certainly did not receive it from this System. Not half a decade ago, some courts were ruling that if I were raped, my rapist would not face legal consequence because we were deemed inherently incapable of suffering the harm inherent in the act. The Socialist Republic would have probably failed me too, but what I live in has been little better.
Of course, I have still have Human Rights, don’t I?
For the next few hours, yes.
In about 8 hours, I will lose my Right to Freedom of Expression, Association and Conviction. When the clock ticks over to January 1st, Communism will be legally equivocated with Hitlerism, its ā€˜propagation’ or ā€˜apologia’ punishable by up to 5 years in prison.
I cannot make peace with the System because the System cannot make peace with me.

Thank you for the detailed post, I hobby write in English but still struggle with conversational language, plus typing on mobile so my will be somewhat lacking in comparison. I fear that most of it is unfortunately moot. As I said, the nazi ideology is undoubtedly worse of the two. It is merely that emotionaly, for the reasons stated plus personal experience, the reds irritate more and I wanted to clarify that the fact it tends to be so in our country and the eastern block absolutely doesn’t mean we absolve or downplay the crimes of the nazis. As for supporting KSČM, don’t. You don’t seem to play historical revisionism but it seems to be their favourite passtime, right behind weakening EU, and aiding Russian imperialism. I don’t give a fuck about the economical model or collectivism, it’s just about not being a walking sack of shit for me. If you are convinced you can make it work outside of small communes where everyone enters willingly despite all the evidence to the contrary, then by all means. Just don’t do it behind a banner of a failed monster. As far as I can tell that’s all the law is about anyway. Going to read it in full now.

This is probably verging into stuff for the Politics thread now - which seems to be a running theme for any thread I start.

That being said. I’ve prepped a monthly build for release tomorrow, containing a whole bunch of new content - including the foundations of the UI.

Once again, if you’d like access to this build, or the latest build, which is updated far more frequently, you can support me on Shadow of the Eagles’ Patreon, where I will also be posting a more detailed development update tomorrow.

Having watched countless Epic History videos on Napoleon, will we have epic moments (or similar) like when an officer urged, "Fourteenth! Will you let them take your guns?ā€, or when Napoleon calmly said ā€œThey are oursā€ after seeing Austria’s overstretched force pushing back his men in the Battle of Rivoli? That’d be so cool!

This is not a game related question

But how has been the patreon response to Shadow pbl 0of Eagles. Was it up to your expections, overwhelming or in-between

Do you think such a approach would be suitable for Wars of Infinity it maybe would ease your finances a bit

I know being a Tierra Artistocrat its hard for you talk about these matters but us tenants were hoping for some glimmer of light

Yes. Unquestionably. There are (arguably) already a few in Act 1.

The Patreon reaction has been overwhelming and far beyond my expectations, which is fantastic.

But I can’t use the same model for Wars of Infinity. CoG requires any Patreon-backed WIP to have any paywalled content be publicly available within a month of first posting, so I can’t do development access as a benefit - which I suspect is the real draw of the SotE Patreon. When I start on Wars I’ll be doing it the old fashioned way.

You wrote in one of contents about a game idea BERLICHINGEN where we can control a noble family in the Holy Roman Empire through the tumultuous era between 1450 and 1650.

Do you think a similar game idea where we can control of a small landed gentry in Britain during the times of declining agricultural income and steer the boat.

Also would ever consider making a game on Indian subcontinent (any time period discreet to your decision)

Sorry about English it’s still not my strongest suit but I am trying

I don’t think I have the background knowledge to make a game like that.

How much money would you require, in your estimate, to be able to complete every game idea you ever had and have enough to comfortably support yourself.

I am bad at budgets, and I am very good at coming up with new ideas, most of them bad.

Still, just from a range of -1 to 1 million how much

I think you might be underestimating how much some of these games would cost to make.

I can’t afford Patreon, but I’m definitely getting this one when it comes out (as long as it’s coming on a platform I can buy on).
