Opening the game and see that my save files are corrupted… Now, the sensible thing is to wait 10 more days until the update and replay it then.. but where’s the fun in that? now watch me bemoaning about my save files getting corrupted again when the December update rolls out
I’m kind of in the same boat. I’m waiting for the public demo so I can see the code and try to min-max my stats. It’s hard to keep stats more balanced (or at least it is for me how I’m playing my MC).
When I saw this, I was all, “Yes, a new Adrian theory!”
Until I read it and realized I did so much research making Adrian’s character for my fangame, I’ve already internalized this theory. By this, I mean I might accidentally state this as a fact when, technically, it’s not true.
Which is good! I try to make Adrian in character as much I as can.
for your theory… (long btw)
I wonder if we need to limit this to just him betraying you if you don’t find the saboteur. I think it may be likely that Adrian is capable of betraying what you want if he thinks he needs to keep you safe (see the hellhound chase or kidnapping you).
I also think, on the other hand, that Adrian will be quick to shut you out and push you away if he thinks it will protect you. Without letting you get a say-so. If anything, you will be punished for trying to help him.
I’ve suspected Adrian is a deconstruction of the best friend trope. I also think that, of the present antagonistic bonds, Adrian’s feels… I don’t have a good word for it? …a stark contrast? Either he’s friendly and protective or obsessed with you. It could’ve been something cheeky the author did that just remained. Or is more revealing than we realize.
(For context: either the incubus is a mentor and would like to eat your soul or is lying and would like to eat your soul. Either Percy is perceptive and mysterious or is a complete fruitcake.)
For now, I like to keep Adrian as a best friend with good affinity. I also like being his roommate (bunk beds) so he gets his protectiveness fix in case anything happens. Less work for me. The poor guy would’ve killed me by now if he wanted to, I suppose. Maybe I’ll learn to cook his favorite dish on top of everything. His birthday is in March and, by March 31, we may have almost died multiple times. All of this is on the outside, of course.
On the inside, his character makes me unsettled. I’m not quite convinced he’s the saboteur imposter yet, but I am convinced he may be someone far worse for us.
Or, perhaps, we are someone very terrible for him.
I’ve seen his confession scene. I don’t have evidence to suggest he’s lying; I think, though, we have no idea what we’re signing up for by saying we love him. (I wonder if Adrian will sometimes act more different around you post-confession. Will he be even more fixated on you? Scared of you? Will there be zero flavor text, the most likely thing?)
Last thing! When I read the Mist and being the antagonist line… I don’t know why, but that entire passage makes no sense to me. How did the character (well, us, MC) think Adrian is fine being the bad guy based off of choosing which story variation he wanted? I have read this passage at least 77 times for the past few months now. I understand the ending line(s) but notthe logical thought process getting to it. Am I cooked? Has my media literacy plummeted?
Adrian 100% has hidden personality stats (the same way the MC can) ie. a personality he shows others, and his true personality that he keeps hidden. You can already see hints of it. The real Adrian is cold, calculating, and very much a “the ends justify the means” type of guy.
(Jokes on him, my MC is an Amnesiac, so when she gets her memories back her original personality might be just as much of a red flag!)
RE: his obsession with the MC, I almost wonder if someone told him who MC’s Camelot preincarnation is to get him to stick with/protect MC. (She might have lied to him)
…I’m pretty sure the glasses are not ordinary glasses and he’s going to stop wearing them at some point. (And I still think the idea of removing the glasses to get Dark!Adrian is funny)
He can keep the messy hair though, can’t have him giving up ALL his charm points.
I’m trying to cook an Adrian fanfic and while I’m somewhat confident I can nail down his mask pre-apocalypse he’s too much of a wildcard past that so I’m probably just sticking with pre-canon xD
Long answer
He keeps telling high affinity MC they might come to regret liking him. Ominous much?
The guy is WEIRDDDD about MC. Which is why lying about us being married makes perfect sense! I’m covering your ass, Bestie! That’s my slightly obsessed with me husband sounds less alarming than that’s my slightly obsessed with me stalker/acquaintance! The friend route kinda holds on and unrequited crush is ridiculous!
I had a theory he’s aware MC is THE Main Character and can heavily influence the future and that’s why he’s trying to gaslight gatekeep girlboss us, but then…
No, like fr, why??
He’s genuinely attached to MC. Like, no matter the relationship, he can be petty, but he still jumps in to help the MC.
Oks giving everybody trust issues fr
Oh, I hope so.
It sure feels like it with Crush!MC XD
Adrian bashed his face in the moment MC was out of sight to induce some post concussion amnesia (is that a thing?). It didn’t work. He’s pretending otherwise.
I mean he kept Crush!MC running in loops for years so…
I think my croping might have confused you, basicially: Adrian admits he would become an antagonist if there’s no other way to achieve a happy ending. Maybe not something he wants to do, but a Plan B or C so to speak.
He can be whatever he wants as long as he keeps his glasses! No switching to contacts and slicking back his hair like some cheap anime delinquent! That’s like 50% of his charm! DON’T give in to the voiceeeees, Adriaaaan! We lost too many good soldiers that way-!
Like, I’d still be annoying and save his sorry person, but any romantic attraction would go poof.
Glasses
STOP DEMEGANING CHARACTERS 2025
Copium MCs desperately putting some fashion glasses back on his face: And nothing bad ever happened!
I most prefer to romance Arthur. Helping him come to terms with everyone he loves being dead, he’s being betrayed countless times, his kingdom is currently gone, his errant admirers may still live, and now the high king has to determine who he wants to be in a near king-less world with his nigh-immortality… is awesome!
PS: I would love to read your Adrian fanfic if you ever want to post it! Since we’ve only seen pre-apocalypse Adrian, I also prefer writing this Adrian.
I was reading the FAQ and I think Adrian and “U” are potentially characters who can betray the group besides the saboteur.
So there’s only one traitor, right?
There may actually potentially be more than one depending on the MC’s actions. But there’s always that one particular saboteur present despite whatever else the MC may do.
I didn’t even think of the “U” being for the MC. It’s certainly possible! I was wondering if it’s 404’s true name since they are listed with the modern ROs.
I’m grateful Merlin only has one stalker the MC may have to contend with. Though she is a powerful fae.
Frankly whatever is wrong with him is funny, but probably not good for his longevity so puts Bob the Builder cap on
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡ – ✧)
That’s my plan C after Adrian and 404. Just remember all the Camelot stalkers you will have to contend with!
Thank you! It’s coming some year or the other…
I would love to play your fangame too!
Longish answer
I thought that “U” was just short for “you”, but hmm. Either saboteur is a secret third so their betray stat doesn’t matter since they always do that with Adrian being the other possible saboteur and “U” stat accounting for MCs that decided they want to keeo sabotaging RV for… whatever reason and were eventually accused of being the saboteur OR the “U” stat is for hiding the saboteur name and Adrian is the eventual “secret” one. OR it’s all a hoax we will know when we know.
I wonder what would count as betrayal of all the other characters if it’s a real stat. Leaving them to their death, so you get another _antagonistic variable when they survive it? Spilling their secrets when you promised not to?
What if you can turn the entire group against you so Adrian goes: “Well, MC can’t be the saboteur if I’M the saboteur” stabs the real saboteur and runs away into the sunset lmao
Re-posting and expanding on some Camelot incarnation theories I posted on the Patreon:
Lorelei theories
From highest likelihood to lowest:
Dinadan has appeared in the first Camelot dream sequence in Chapter 2, so he’s a character all players are intentionally introduced to, and a character who knew/was in proximity to the Camelot MC. His attitude towards knightly chivalry (and competence whereof, despite that attitude) fits Lorelei quite well.
Dodinel isn’t as well-known (or as competent) as Dinadan, but he’s a renowned hunter who spent a lot of time in the wilderness, which fits with what has been revealed about Lorelei in drabbles on the Patreon:
Gawanides isn’t very well-known either, but has connections to Gawain and Lancelot, who are likely to appear, and also possesses extreme strength, which fits Lorelei:
Agravain is one of those well-known (hehe) characters that you just know is going to appear one way or another. I could honestly see either Lorelei or Broderick as Agravain.
I honestly don’t know what to think about Adrian’s Camelot preincarnation anymore!
He gives such strong Lancelot vibes (dark armor, fae connections, water motifs) but then, why does one of the MC’s Camelot preincarnations feel so much like Morgause? Where’s the connection?
If Adrian is Lancelot, the obvious choices for the MC’s Camelot preincarnations would be Galahad, Galehaut, Guinevere and Elaine!
If Adrian is Mordred, Morgause would obviously work as a connected Camelot MC, and I suppose Galahad would too, because it’s mentioned in Merlin’s Guide that Mordred trained Galahad and Percival. But that would mean Guinevere is off the table, presumably, and she also feels like a solid pick for one of the MC’s options right now. The only real connection OKS Mordred and Guinevere seem to have is that Mordred was betrothed (begrudgingly) to her sister, Guinevak. It doesn’t sound like he liked her very much, though. But… if the theory about Gwen being Guinevak is true, that means there’s a connection between Adrian and Gwen…
Another point in Mordred’s favor is the fact that Adrian appears to be intending to play the part of the antagonist to secure a happy ending… which may be what Mordred did during the fall of Camelot.
Adrian is definitely Lancelot, Mordred, or possibly Gawain (though I rank Gawain pretty far behind the others in terms of possibility)
Though, Gawain is the author’s favorite knight, and Adrian is the audience’s favorite RO…
When I first saw it I thought the “U” was Arthur, since he’s the only one among the ROs with a known first name that contains this letter.
Summary
Even though Morgause doesn’t appear to have many direct connections to Lancelot, Lancelot is pretty closely tied to both Arthur and Gawain, and Morgause seems to care a lot about her brother and children. I think this leaves some room for a bond to form between them.
OK, so Sebile is a fae/elf, a Queen, a prophetess (so she has clairvoyance/can see the future), an enchantress (powerful magic user) and a rival of Morgana who managed to pass the blame for a lot of her evil deeds onto Morgana over the years. She’s also (as far as we can tell) not aligned with either the Seelie or Unseelie Court.
Oh, Merlin also speculates that Sebile went by another name earlier in her life, and there’s a separate entry for her:
It sure would be a shame if her clairvoyance revealed to her that Lancelot was being reincarnated.
I’m sure she wouldn’t try and kidnap him (again)
Adrian really, REALLY seems to hate clairvoyance and the concept of destiny/fate.
Could it be because he’s been groomed since he was a child to fulfill a certain destiny, as foreseen by his “mother?”
To go along with this theory, when Sebile took Adrian as a baby, perhaps she also sent an elf changeling of her own to live among humans? Since she’s a clairvoyant, assumedly, she also knew that Changeling MC was going to be a Harbinger. Maybe she wanted them to grow up among humans so they would be more human, since one’s humanity is what makes them eligible to be a Harbinger? This is assuming she wants the apocalypse averted, of course…
…she could probably go either way, going by Merlin’s Guide. And honestly, even if she does want the Harbingers and the Circles to succeed, she probably has her own plans for her own gains in all of this.
But the Amnesiac Changeling MC might be a little different. What if that changeling grew up with Adrian, being raised by Sebile, and the reason they ended up in the desert was because they were trying to help Adrian escape? I think it failed, because Adrian still seems to feel shackled by fate.
Also… since Sebile is a Queen, the Changeling MC can fulfill their dream of being a Fairy Prince(ess) potentially!
Obviously, Sebile could have stolen Adrian even if she didn’t have a changeling to “exchange” for him. Sebile could be Adrian’s “mother” even if the MC is not a Changeling and she has no relation to MC.
Well, that’s all I’ve got regarding Sebile, Adrian, and Changeling MC.
I’ve been waffling on who I think Cassandra is. I definitely think she has a connection to Avalon, but is she a reincarnation of Ninianne? One of the damsels of the lake in disguise? Or could she be Morgana herself?
After rejoining the Patreon and gorging myself on the sweet, sweet lore held within… I’m pretty confident Cassandra is Morgana. Unfortunately, I can’t elaborate.
Changeling theory (related to the above)
As a Changeling MC player, I’ve been curious from the start about who the Changeling’s parents could potentially be. Merlin believes the Changeling is an elf (half-human, half-fae) and while they can’t confirm that, I think their judgement is sound.
“Elf” and “Changeling” aren’t species of fae, however, and the Changeling MC gets the chance to select what variety of fae they would like their fae parentage to lean towards…
The implication here, of course, is that Changeling MC must have a fae parent, and a human parent.
But the thing is…
Technically speaking, if two elves had a baby, that baby would also be exactly half-human, and half-fae.
And going by what Merlin says, to qualify as a Harbinger, you only need the bare minimum human blood, so the Changeling could potentially be 3/4 fae, 1/4 human and still be a Harbinger.
However, if you read my theory posted above this one, you can guess where I am going next - if Sebile (half-human, half-fae) is the Changeling’s mom, that means the Changeling’s dad must also be an elf. And that dramatically winnows the list of possible options!
But wait, we can winnow it even more!
Why is it, perchance, that the Changeling MC gets exactly two options for the variety of fae that they are? Hmm… could it possibly be because one option would be inherited from Sebile, and one option inherited from their father?
If you remember from my first theory and the Merlin’s Guide entry about Sebile, she kidnapped Lancelot to a place called The Vale of False Lovers. Well… there’s a Patreon snippet about that place, and it is apparently full of living plants that will try to stop anyone from getting through. Sounds pretty similar to the powers a wilderness-aligned Changeling might have access to.
And if Sebile provides the forest/wilderness heritage…
…maybe Oberon is the Changeling MC’s father, and provides the dark/light heritage?
The only other fae I can find in Merlin’s Guide that might work is Arawn, and he’s a full-blooded fae.
Of course, it’s completely possible that Changeling MC’s dad simply isn’t listed in Merlin’s Guide. Merlin only said that all the potential Camelot reincarnations are listed in there, after all.
Or maybe Changeling MC doesn’t have a dad? I mean… magic, right?
(≖_≖ )
Everywhere I look, I see her…
As a bonus, here’s Horny MC vs Adrian, which is always a good time.
I tried looking through the code for the polo club to see if Sebile is mentioned if you investigate the trailer, but I didn’t find anything. It’s interesting it’s just the fencing club. Though book club might have something when it’s released.
I kept getting tripped over game describing “red halo” in Adrian’s hair and thinking it may be referencing Mordred, because that seems to be Arthur/Pendragon’s color (even tho Mordred apparently has dark hair) and missed this obvious- AUGH (you saved my life, thank you!).
So. Maybe Adrian’s glasses are there so others don’t recognize him since he seems to look pretty similar to Lancelot apart from the eyes. AND they change his eye color HENCE the Harry Potter reference BECAUSE in the books he’s supposed to have green eyes, but Daniel Radcliffe didn’t want to wear contacts so they were blue in the movies! (or maybe he was actually re-born with those, but the theory holds!)
Now, if you consider Lancelot killing all the people in defense of Guinevere to be a manifestation of Wrath vice and Adrian kicking the vending machine to be the same, it would explain why he’s so hesistant to be romantically involved with MC (apart from whatever great plan he has in mind), because last time he lowkey went yandere and ruined the work environment for everybody.
THE.DOTS.ARE.BEING.CONNECTED.
Adrian being the game’s freebie fr (easiest relationship to cultivate, does damage control if you fail checks, forcefully dragging you away from Dead Ends, easiest reincarnation to pinpoint etc.).
Answers
I circled through so many reincarnations for them I’m back at the starting point. The “problem” in oks is that their behavior/personality/morality can be completely unaffected by their reincarnation and vice versa, so unlike Adrian who is so blatantly affected by his previous life anything goes with everybody else
Like Gwen could secretly be Gawain and that’s why she can suplex(?) people or maybe she just has a luck talent or is a changeling
I hope real Adrian is just like that.
I feel like Lust MC is more likely to push him into one xD
I think he is our freebie. I enjoy imposter games the most when I know there a few people I know won’t be awful (like Luna in Virtue’s Last Reward). It’s why Gnosia was so hard for me to complete, honestly. The reason is because if I trust none of the characters, I care for none of them—if they’re all lying to me, why should I?
The next five Harbingers (Merlin excluded) are proving to be much more of a challenge to guess.
Adrian’s glasses are very sus. You can already call out in-game how they do the Gendo Ikari anime lens flare thing at will.
Adrian is a Harbinger, so his vision is fine. The glasses are either to help him see something that wouldn’t normally be visible, or (as you suggested) to prevent others from seeing something about him.
Perhaps the glasses have something to do with the “static” that keeps Merlin from easily reading his mind?
(It’s also very sus that every time Adrian is not wearing his glasses in a Patreon drabble his personality is drastically different. Maybe the glasses keep Dark!Adrian/Lancelot contained somehow.)
Lowkey looking forward to Berserkalot Adrian. And also lowkey hoping Crush/Romanced MC will be able to break Adrian out of berserker mode at some point. THE DRAMA!
Either Merlin was, at one time, (before he met Arthur) a human, and was possessed or made a deal with a demon, becoming the incubus Merlin that we (and Arthur) know and love…
OR, in order to escape being imprisoned with Vivian at the edge of the Veil and try to stop the Apocalypse, Merlin separated their soul from their body, and while they were in their weakened state they were subsumed by someone else. Something else? Well, if Current Merlin counts as a Harbinger, whatever subsumed them must be partially human, anyway.
Despite this possibility, I don’t think Merlin is the saboteur. I don’t know WHY this Fake Merlin is carrying out the Original Merlin’s wishes to form the Circles, but they are! Maybe don’t look a gift horse in the mouth. …PUT THE SWORD DOWN, ADRIAN.
*Okay, I missed a third possibility even though High Charisma MC pointed it out for me. Maybe Merlin is actually a legitimate half-demon somehow…
I’ve had a similar thought! What I imagined before was that when Merlin first got through the veil, they stitched themself together with other thing(s) to overcome their weakened state. That being wouldn’t exactly be Merlin, but Merlin’s consciousness would still be the one in control (… like what sometimes happens in FGO), which could explain why the Merlin we have now hopes to form the Circles.
Also, I’m thinking about whether Lorelei’s real class in the post above is Avenger. Considering Lorelei’s fun facts mention that she had a twin brother who passed away a few years ago due to strange circumstances, maybe her subplot matches the Serial Killer MC’s.
Yeah (just noticed you edited this sentence😅), if these guesses are correct to some extent, Alter Ego or Pretender would probably fit them better…
Perhaps this is connected to Adrian’s secret. For example, his true role might be to oversee the rivalries between the different Circles, which could be what he was doing in Cape Town back in 2020.
