Sasha is a good name- I want to experiment with a character who’s gender changes depending on the choices the player makes, so I’ll either need a gender neutral name like that or just make a separate name variable.

I just had a placeholder name there instead -‘Ellen’- and then accidentally typed in an ‘i’ and made it ‘Eilen’ and thought that if the ‘e’ was extended it’d actually make a pretty name.)
To be fair, for Americans with a decent amount of family history in the U.S.,(with at least some dependency on region) it wouldn’t be too farfetched for someone to believe they have Irish ancestry. Although it would be eccentric for a Russian to believe they’re Irish or have Irish ancestry without sufficient proof.
You are free to ask, I’m just speaking from personal experience.

Same here, have you tried using name sites? Behind the Name has a name generator that’ll generate a surname, if you need it to, and Nameberry has namehunter which is a lot cooler than the other generator.
There is just so many comical ways to go about that situation. I wonder why being a reporter that unmasks supers, why we haven’t unmasked then yet? I could understand either out of fear or respect for them, or possibly still haveing feelings for them.

Now I really want to create a ‘laugh’ variable and just have the player chose what kind of laugh their MC has and add the option ‘surprisingly villainous’ just to have a bunch of characters react to this reporter MC with the laugh of a supervillain.
I get that. It depends on the situation for me. Places like restaurants? Usually a good sign if lots of people of there. Planes? More calming.
But if I’m finding a space to write? Max. amount of people: 3 (including me). Otherwise I always get paranoid that someone’s gonna steal my computer and read my stuff while I’m trying to focus and write. (This may sound weird- but it’s because that’s what usually happens whenever I write around the people I know. They don’t even say anything, it’s just like one minute I’m typing and the next- whoosh- my fingers are hitting the table because my computer is now in their hands. And I’m just sitting there, thinking to myself ‘Okay, y’know, I’d be happy to share, but not while I’m trying to write it.’ Not exactly conducive to getting work done, eh?)
Yeah, it’s gonna have a lot to do with who you interact with, I don’t want to make it too obvious that that’s what you’re picking at the time but I also want to experiment with how this can work. I don’t know, just a fun idea-type-thing to mess around with.
I use Behind the Name all the time! (Probably more than I should, haha) I find it super helpful since some of the names also have little meanings behind them that I like to work into some books just for the heck of it. Or they sound nice and fit the character well… usually it’s the latter…

As for New Villain…
Well, it’s still kinda spoilery but I’ll go ahead and put it in since it’s not like a big reveal or anything especially pertinent to the plot, I’ll just put them in spoilers? I guess?
Anyway, New Villain’s power is [spoiler]two-fold, they’re original power is to ‘nullify and absorb’, essentially they nullify the power of a hero and then can absorb that power and use it for themself. The kick back with this is that once they nullify the power, they can’t nullify any other before shedding that absorbed power. They can still absorb, but if they do then the new power will replace the previous one that they’d absorbed, and unless they’ve already shed the power they originally absorbed, it won’t nullify the power of the new hero that they’ve absorbed it from. But this is a pretty easy problem since all they have to do is shed the previous power before absorbing a new one.
It sounds a lot more complicated when written aloud than in my head .[/spoiler]
Fortunately our mc’s doesn’t have any powers. Unless the power to seduce Ricky (as a guy) counts. As currently I think I’m gonna try for Ricky.

Yeah, I’ve kinda set on the fact that he’s someone who’s gonna be romanceable by all genders but will have different dialogue/scenes for a romance involving non-female MCs as he’s always thought of himself as straight but is now questioning himself and his sexuality as you said.
So, yep, that’s a done deal. Ricky will be romanceable by all genders.

I suggest starting with VN’s with female protagonists, as they fall largely outside my area of expertise (and interest).
Nope, not seen it in a CoG till now. All RO’s I’ve encountered till now have been either gay, bi or mc-sexual and they are possessed of full knowledge and for the most part already confident in their sexuality by the time the mc gets to romance them.
Plus there’s the fact that he and the mc already have a history of sorts and it hasn’t exactly been one of the best for him, has it?

(Although most female-protagonist VNs I’ve found with female ROs- since those are usually the ones I look for- the female ROs have such little actual content that you still don’t know anything about them by the time you’ve finished the game- and you’re supposed to be in a relationship! But, nope, they’re usually more like ‘side-characters’ with maybe one or two lines of romantic dialogue and then an ending graphic…

I can understand this. When I was in school I would draw before classes started, eventually I gave up because my classmates, instead of just watching, would make stupid comments. Then there was one time a classmate decided he would rearrange my brush pens without even asking if he could. That upset me quite a bit. Otherwise, I enjoy quietly watching others draw and write, if someone interrupts that process it’s hard to get back into the necessary mindset.
Quick question, would it also depend on how you interact with them? I can’t wait to see how this turns out and I think it’s much nicer than outright asking the player about their sexuality.

I’m just imagining a scenario, like in the middle of a battle between the heroes and villains, and like something happens that results in the MC breaking down laughing and everyone is just really confused, except for Finley, and Finley is just standing next to them on the sidelines while everyone turns to look and they just kinda shrug, 'cause they’ve gotten so used to it.
Exactly! (Also I always wondered why people did that to others, like what possible enjoyment do they get out of it? It just… doesn’t make a whole lotta sense to me. I mean, I get it if you’re super close with that person and it’s some kind of inside joke or jab that the two of you understand and such, but just with a casual friend…? Why…?)
Well, I’m still kinda working it out in my head since all this is a new addition (although strangely New Villain has been becoming more and more entwined with the plot the more I think about them), I have a version I’m gonna try out and see how it works but it’s pretty open to edit and change. Well it kind of devolved into MC trying to convince Ricky that flirting and getting touchy-feely with them in front of Ex and New Villain is a good idea while Ex is trying to tell New Villain it’s a trap. In the end nothing happens because things didn’t turn out how MC had planned.
See, that’s how it started out for me, but my brain decided to butt in and my mind went straight to the gutter with possible scenarios.
I’ll draw up the blueprints, you get the newt eyes.
Hmm… I imagine they’d all have pretty funny reactions, the more classic villains would fall deeper in love, and some of the more classic heroes would probably hesitate. The MCs Ex would just know well enough about their laugh so they wouldn’t be all that surprised. But they might get a few questions from the others.
Lemme tell you if anyone deserves a raise it’s Finley.

Not fun is an understatement when you’re depressed andno need for sympathy or anything of that nature here. I’d rather share the story and possibly help someone else, even just a little, or someone get a laugh out of it.
And mischievous. But my MC definitely isn’t shy about what they want, of course none of my MCs are. The only thing that really changes is what they want, which I don’t think I’ve ever played a character above true neutral. There might be a very rare neutral good or chaotic good character, though.
I really could’ve lived happily without some of the mental images it’s provided. Then you have those nights when you think you’re going to get a good night’s sleep… Nope! you’re going to stay awake until 6am and get the worst sleep you’ve ever had! It’s like a horrible roommate you can’t get rid of.

Around two or so days ago I was in a position quite like the beginning of MCU- waiting a really long time for something to start. Naturally, I got extremely bored so I started browsing the apps store and found this satirical game that’s a spin off of Pokemon where you play as a company boss and have to ‘catch’ workers and make them earn money for you.
I downloaded it to pass the time.
I named the in-game company Triple N.
(But wait! It gets even more ironic than that, the “starter worker” that I chose was poor because they’d just gone through a divorce… Which, I’ll be honest, I didn’t even look at the stats, irony was the only reason I chose that starter.)
Good for a laugh.

And now we get to the heart of the whole “villainous” path you talked about. (I mean, you talked me into including a villain RO, one who’s now become much more intertwined with the plot than I expected… maybe you really are a supervillain! With the power of persuasion!)
Well, if all goes according to plan you should definitely get the chance to play a pretty villainous MC. (The irony twist for those kinds of MCs is if they become even more of a villain then their Ex was…)
I get these all the time! Though for me it’s usually my brain goes ‘Hey, you know what would make a kickass horror movie?’ And I’m left thinking, Oh god please no. Meanwhile my brain decides to conjure up all these ideas for horror movie villains and the gruesome plots surrounding those stories, until inevitably I either pass out or decide that this is not okay for my brain to be doing and try to turn it into a happy story instead.
Or some combination of the two… It’s weird but I almost never have actual ‘nightmares’, whenever I’m in a nightmarish setting I get either really sassy and start arguing with the masked killers or I try to outsmart them.
Once I tricked a killer clown into doing my laundry because I made him think I was the one who hired him and wouldn’t pay him if he killed anybody. Then I texted (yes, texted) the cops while he was putting the clothes in the washer.
… It was a weird dream.
(Suddenly MCU’s plot and cast makes a lot more sense…)
Now I’m thinking some kind of Young Frankenstein style where you’ve got half of someone else’s mind in your head and their thoughts keep interrupting yours…
