I’m sorry to hear all that. I hope things start working out better for you soon.
As for rethinking the goalposts … that’s not a bad idea, as long as it doesn’t mean compromising your vision as a whole. I would love to have something new from you to read sooner rather than later, but I know no matter how long it takes, it will be worth the wait.
If you do decide to release sooner, will you be able to break the existing chapters into smaller chunks? I know you said the first chapter would probably be the most massive, but a single chapter that takes five or six hours to read through is a bit much even for me.
So, my laptop broke a couple months ago, and I’ve been using a spare, broken laptop since. I just got a new laptop today so I should be more productive than I have been. I might be able to post Chapter Two of Meteoric this month
Must be something going around with everyone’s week My car went belly up (right before I had to drive all over the state for work which was interesting) and I had the petrol station attendant coming out to growl at me repeatedly that I wasn’t allowed to konk out in a no parking zone ('cos of course that’s something people do on purpose lol.) Apparently I was somehow supposed to push a car weighing over 1.5 tonnes by myself with no one steering it, up a hill, to a car park while he watched because it’s not like he had to help, his job was just to rant at me lol. (Tell me you failed high school level science without telling me… or that you’ve never tried to move something much heavier than you before. I had to explain that one person was not going to manage to successfully move a car up a hill without the car rolling back and running the person over before crashing into his petrol station… I had to explain this multiple times.) This was Saturday evening and it just kept coming from there. Various things going wrong over the next two days have made it a really long drama filled week already. I’m ready for the long weekend already lol.
Needless to say no writing updates from me this week so far!
I was sure yesterday was a Friday. It felt like it should be, but no. Monday. I vote we just pretend it’s the weekend all week.
I’ve just wrapped up a successful round of beta testing with some fantastic feedback. I think the demo is in great shape, and I’m planning to submit it to Spring Thing tomorrow or the next day.
I’m still planning to finish chapter six this month, or get damn close. It’s been hard to make any forward progress with that because of revisions and adulting, but once the demo is submitted I should be able to focus on getting the rest of the game written.
And by the way, writers, if you’re not already reading this thread, I recommend it: Structuring Side Plots (Learn, Explore, Act) Lots of interesting thoughts and insights being shared.
Whew! I think I am done with this month’s goal of completing TLR’s Act 1. Maybe I will have some time to work with the hobby project to work out my writing rut lol
I don’t know if it’s because of my looming surgery or the fact that I’m suffering from a bad cough and have lost my voice, a mixture of the two or something completely unrelated. But, I’m struggling to motivate myself to write, and the lack of comments/feedback is starting to get me down.
I will once I’ve finished the update I have been trying to work on. A lot of it is rewriting and revising stuff I’ve done previously which I also believe is another reason why the motivation is low. Repetition isn’t as creative as writing new stuff.
I’ve been editing The Mage’s Adventures for well over a year now, and have only written like 70k words for it because it’s THAT much of a slog to revise rather than write fresh material.
My solution was to rearrange my priorities so I could be more productive and enjoy writing more again. Now, I’m dedicating only 100 words a day to editing my old games, and the rest of my writing day to my new story, Meteoric.
It has worked wonderfully and I’m writing 500-1k words a day instead of 200 like I had been for months.
I think that’s a really good plan. I’ve doing working edit on Wizardry for a while but it’s far harder to sit down and only edit that, than it is to work on one of the unpublished games. So they get to share my time, and if I get sick of editing the published game, I allow myself to work on the unpublished ones and in the end I think it’s more productive for me at least than getting burnt out on the edit completely. Probably depends on how you work though I think some others I’ve spoken to like finishing an update then going back to a different project which probably gets things out in a more even manner.
This is beautiful! I’m so happy for you! While it’s an honor, I would also suggest looking into what fair compensation would be. After all, they’re using your poem, they can at least throw a few cents your way each time they put on the play!
Okay now I’m curious.
Do you mean a resume? Or are you trying to hire people? Not meant as a criticism, just genuine confusion.
My mother had 5 siblings total. XD Are you sure three is enough? laughs in gremlin
So the MC can have Protagonist Syndrome! XD
Curious why you didn’t go with “Your father’s name is ”? Now that I’m looking there’s a lot of code there that could have been simplified into a paragraph, instead of listing it out that way. Are you listing it out like this as a temporary state before you combine it, or is this a style choice? Again, apologies if I sound disparaging, I am honestly just curious about your reasoning as I made the opposite choice.
Also holy shit the father has my favorite hair color and style. XD
I’m curious what you mean by Codex pages. are you referring to notes you keep that help you keep continuity and characters straight? I have those too, I just never thought to call them something as cool as a Codex.
Welcome back! We look forward to your posts going forward! (and no worries, I’ma ware not everyone has a compulsion like me to go back and reply to everything that posted in between their posts. XD)
So a Queer Platonic Relationship? SIGN ME UP pulls out sacrificial dagger.
I’m so sorry you’re having a shit month. I bless you with a little bit of luck for the coming days! poofs glitter in your face. That said! I too have suffered horrific bike punctures and I’m telling you, the Green-Goo tires work best to avoid it. You could also invest in hard-rubber tires, but I’ve heard they make riding a little bumpier.
Wow! That’s awesome! I recently splurged (thanks to tax refunds) and got some ram upgrades for my computer. 32 gbs of ram! WOO!
paffs you in the face with good-luck glitter too. I bless you with good luck! This week SHALL NOT get the best of you!
god I wish
Good job! Your hard work has paid off!
It might be your brain/body telling you that it’s time to rest. If your surgery and your cough are drawing you away, perhaps it’s good to listen to them? Plus, if you’re focusing on resting, comments/feedback can build up and happily surprise you with their amount when you get back, rather than watching each one come in individually.
What do you know, so do I! Another point in favor of the Accountabili-Buddies thread being something needed. XD
On the bright side I got up a whole ass hour early today, so I might actually be able to put a little work on my game for a little before work! Wish me luck.
edit: SO THIS IS PROBABLY THE DUMBEST THING TO BE PROUD OF, BUT OMG. I finally figured out the template code I can use to denote romance shit! OMG.
So in Phoenix Rising, you can have four sexualities. Alloromantic/Allosexual (sex+romance=fun), Allosexual/Aromantic (Sex is fun, romance not so much), Alloromantic/Asexual (romance yes, sex no), and aromantic/Asexual (Just give me the plot). and I just figured out code to use that works in pretty much any situation, to be able to give flavor text for these specific sexualities! IVE BEEN DYING TRYING TO FIGURE THIS OUT!
*if (pc_sexuality = 0) or (pc_sexuality = 1)
*comment (sexy stuff)
*if (pc_sexuality = 0)
*comment (Sexy, Romantic stuff)
*if (pc_sexuality = 1)
*comment (sexy, no romantic stuff)
*if (pc_sexuality = 2) or (pc_sexuality = 3)
*comment (no sexy stuff)
*if (pc_sexuality = 2)
*comment (Romance, no sexy stuff)
*if (pc_sexuality = 3)
*comment (no romance, no sexy stuff)
Of course, any tips on compacting/perfecting this code would be helpful, but keep in mind, I will not be using multireplace very much for disability reasons.
Ok, I’ve seen this on the forum before, and I still don’t know. What does that even mean? How can it possibly be different than just a normal platonic relationship? Isn’t it kinda weird to be so specific? Like, you wouldn’t say a straight platonic relationship. Or is that not what it means? … I’m so confused
Thank you! I hear you, but considering this performance is only happening twice and the going rate for most performers is generally lower than it should be, I feel like asking for any kind of compensation would make it less likely that they’d be able to use my poem. I don’t know how many performers there are in the troop, but they’ll already be splitting whatever compensation they get among their members and I don’t want to take anything away from that. I’ll be perfectly happy with a credit and the honor of my work being included in such an expressive work of art.
The Codex is a specific part of my stat pages in-game that the reader can access for all sorts of useful information. Here is a screen of the Codex’s directory page:
