Not until Marxus grows as a character. He’s a good man, but his flaws can potentially put those around him indirectly in deadly danger and Sophia is already in a delicate position as it is.
That and from what @Sophia said, Marxus seems mostly incapable of honestly loving someone else besides Melissa.

Talk about a love triangle, at least for the MC who pursues Melissa. What a funny position for her to potentially be in - having both princes of the realm pine for her affection.
WHAT?! Now, not only does he not have the courage to reject the marriage nor apologize to MCs that is obviously in love with Melissa, who Melissa obviously loves back, and at least swore an oath of celibacy…he also has the gall to love her?!
That’s it, if I was sympathetic to him beforehand, I no longer am. He’s officially on my ‘make life as agonizing as possible and deny the mercy of death’ list.
On another note, now I want a scene with him where we can tell him, “If you as much as lay a finger on her Marxus, I will make sure the ‘golden lion’ loses all his claws and fangs, and if you even try to kiss her…I’ll personally skin the lion and wear it as a cape. Now, are we understood?”, the contrast between the warm reception he got from me when I was a child and the cold murderous gaze I’ll give him from then on shall be a delight to see.
Does it really count as a triangle if two parties are obviously in love with each other and the third one is just…kinda there?

Well… presuming both Marxus and the Second Prince love Melissa, yes.
It’s hardly a love triangle when Melissa doesn’t even loves Marxus back, isn’t it?
The way I see it, it’s just a one sided love from Marxus, now…if Melissa were to somehow also loves him back…only then will it be a love triangle. But she wouldn’t do that…would she?
I bet 10 crowns she’d totally betray the MC’s love and start falling for kind, sensitive and considerate Marxus.
I can’t imagine her hating him, I can picture her warming up to him and developing an affection for his character, which may turn to love.

Also, sensitive and considerate are not terms I would describe Marxus as. Kind? Yes, but not sensitive and considerate. From what I’ve seen he’s as sensitive and considerate as a brick. Storming in on our conversation with Melissa and then casually blowing our cover even as we clue him in to not to? Yes, very sensitive and considerate indeed

God, she better not…my MC is already jaded by all the corruption and suffering of the world, if he can’t even believe in Melissa’s purity of love…he’ll probably gone off the deep end and brings calamity to the world in his attempt to purge it of ‘impurity’.
And seeing that he’s a very knowledgeable mage (his main stats are knowledge and magic), he’ll pose a very real threat to the world. Sadly I can see it begin by ‘cleansing’ Marxus and Melissa from the face of the world, at which point the last shackle of his morality shall be undone, and the world will suffer for it…

More like he’s bad at getting social ques but otherwise good natured and wants to make a good impression to others. His numbness I think is a layer to protect his sensitivity rather than a symptom of apathy. Like Princess Sophia he’s kind of bad at communicating, at least emotionally, but I do think he desires to have such a void be filled.
If Melissa warms up to him… she is kind and sweet and would endear herself to him, he will strive to protect her and be the hero of her dreams, if that works she will start to like him.
The MC could be kind or cunning, what’s to stop Melissa from wanting to go Team Heretic herself?
Considering the MC has the blood of a magic king (Darius)… you should totally exploit that potential and be the second coming of Voohr himself and destroy everything Andus, Marxus and the traitorous Melissa hold dear… assuming Marxus doesn’t step up his own game and become the second coming of his ancestor Darius and slay you to save the world, both of you becoming legends.

It just doesn’t fit her character, to be honest. She seems to be a romantic person with a fixation for true love.
Do that and my MC shall become the villain from her nightmares.
But it’s…oddly fitting for a mage MC, isn’t it? The hero…always a swordsman/knight and the villain…an evil sorcerer. But in this case it’s a heavy dose of ‘tragic villain’ and ‘create your own villain’.

very sure Sophia said that if we don’t push for melissa romance after she marries max, Melissa falls in love with max. plus she will die, doesn’t she?
