Infamous if (band wip) chap 3 (457k wrds) released (9/08/2024)

I’m not sure how the voting works.

Maybe there’s two votes, one to decide the winner, and once that’s done another to decide the two bands who go into Face Off?

BotB’s rules are ridiculous.

It’s so weird that winning Week 1 doesn’t give immunity for Week 2. I don’t watch a lot of reality TV, but the little I have watched, that’s how immunity worked, so I was assuming the same! :sob:

Yep. Thats how I know of it. Its supposed to be following week not night of same week.

I hate reality shows, so its not my thing, and know this basic element.

The nature of the competion for the second week is that if your band you write for preform the lowest then both you and them half to face off essentially and the loser in that match up is eliminated. At least thats what I get out of it when I played a two weeks back.

It’s more that you going into face-off is directly tied to how well the band you wrote for does. If your performance is stellar and theirs is trash, they drag you down with them and you’re both in the face off. Both bands have to do well (or in your case, all three) for you to avoid the face off. It’s another real reason to not want Blake writing for you and another false reason to let the band push you into groveling to Seven.

Something to edit in the second draft…hopefully

Probably, yeah. Obviously the band that won isn’t going to be the one that goes home since they did best. The mention of immunity could be removed altogether because it’s just confusing to the reader who is much more likely to assume it’s immunity from the next elimination. I don’t think BOTB does that at all.

Edit: I went to check the part that mentions immunity and while it’s redundant to say that winning grants you immunity because it’s pretty obvious, it does pretty clearly intend being safe that same night. MC mentions that they’re still anxious while they wait to know who is going to the Face Offs, even thought they have immunity. It could be still removed for even better clarity I guess.

Actually now I’m wondering if it’s written that way because there are weeks in which winning will not grant you immunity?? Like in this challenge, what if you perform great and win but the band you wrote for does so badly you end in the Face Offs with them anyway? Far-fetched but you never know with BOTB :sob:

It’s been a while since I’ve watched a singing or dancing reality TV competition, but I don’t think it’s typical for that style of show for winning one week to mean immunity the next. It just means the highest scorers don’t go home that week. On some shows, the top act gets an advantage or a reward. BOTB is structured similarly to The X Factor. The bands are ranked, but the rankings function mostly as aesthetic because everyone not in the bottom two advances. The bottom two are chosen through a mix of judges’ scores and audience votes, and they have to duke it out to see who stays. Pretty straightforward, IMO.

For this challenge, you already have a built-in bottom two: the band that scores the lowest and the band that wrote the song for them.

I agree with strawberrydelight, any mention of “immunity” should be edited out, it’s the easiest “fix” for this confusion. “Immunity” has a certain context in the reality TV sphere.

Immunity in the first week was useless anyway. Wow, we’ve won and gotten an immunity from getting eluminated… from the very same challenge we were fighting to get an immunity for and the same challenge of which the immunity provided doesn’t transfer to other weeks. Making it a judge or audience aid to the winner ends up being exactly what they actually did, only without implying that you get any sort of actual protection from being eluminated.

And what’s the point in vote eluminating the highest scorers, anyway? Outside of Velvet Novocaine, second or third place, most top bands are already audience and judge favourites. MC could have gotten in perfectly well and ignore the buzz if, a), either he or Rowan didn’t decide to start shit during the party after the accusation and b), if G didn’t start flinging shit at Blake in front of the cameras.

Yeah it doesnt make sense for MC to potentially be eliminated this round. I dont’t think the author has beta testers which explains a lot.

Wouldnt surprise me at all with how things are going lol. I could see it happening.

Amy mentioned it’s possible for MC and band to get sent home this week. She said its difficult to get but that it is a possibility that ends in an early game over.

Shell be looking for beta testers once she’s further along with her progress on ch5.

Technically, we’re the beta testers. That’s what the demo’s for. But she doesn’t really come on here very often, so I don’t know how much feedback she actually receives.

Haha, yeah. I don’t know how much audience votes play a role on fictional BOTB, but I know on some shows the technical winner can still go home if enough of the audience doesn’t vote to advance them. I always assume the producers change the requirements arbitrarily for maximum drama (some of those people were NOT bottom two @ Dancing with the Stars ).

Honestly, I think it’s just written this way to give the competition aspect of the game actual stakes.

40% of the final score

Having finished another playthrough today, I have a theory about this. Dakota’s the show’s drug dealer, that’s made explicit. But the last gift/welcome basket contained booze, which we know reality shows use to get “good” tv. We also know the only band who’s members were younger than drinking age went home on the first challenge. I think Cory’s providing the “private” bottles of booze to get the contestants to drink (constantly) and get (and stay) messy. That’s what I think Dakota was referring to here, anyway.

Cory also provides some MCs an out during the challenge with suggesting Missing in Action, which pisses off Viktor - if you express sympathy for her, she can even discuss Seven’s situation with you and seems quite supportive. Most of it is fake, obviously, but there are crumbs of genuine… commiseration? I think she’s more of a friendly force in BOTB making circles compared to, say, Dakota who threatens to throw you out if you blab your mouth about their problematic bestie.

I just realized, the title should probably be updated to chapter 4 and its update date

After doing a Blake route for the game and looking into the code I low key think they should be turned into a main romance option. You see and interact with them as much as other RO’s and they honestly make for a much better enemies to lovers story than Seven and MC.
