If only those three dunces googled “Bands whose members parted amicably” vs “Bands whose members parted like a troop of shit-flinging rabid baboons”, so much could have been averted. Including the game’s plot, so perhaps it is good that they didn’t. ![]()
Can you imagine going out for drinks with your friends and suddenly, as you wait for the alcohol to arrive, they hit you with “oh btw we’re planning to hold a vote to execute john off the friend group as soon as he shows up. Sorry for not telling you aha, hope you don’t mind, we know he’s your bff/bf but whatever xD”
I wonder if maybe adding an old manager would help with the whole vote situation. Like the band had their first manager and he/she pressured them into the vote to demote Seven because “numbers yadda yadda”, and after it happened the band fires them cause they didn’t like the situation they’d but the band in, ya know?
This way there would be a third party we can put a lot of the blame on so we wouldn’t have to demonize the rest of the band so much (and the vote even happening in the first place would make more sense), but the band and MC would still be jerks cause they still went through with the vote and didn’t realize the harm until afterwards.
I think it wasn’t about numbers or popularity, the band is clearly hiding the real reason for the vote.
Seven hate for the band is to much just for the vote.
I have no idea why you’d think this.
Seven specifically asked me to keep my distance and then made “you hurt my fee-fees uwu” eyes at me when I did. If I didn’t know they were 27, I’d think they were 13, tops.
Because they don’t want to talk about the vote which is suspicious to me.
It’s like they stayed in highschool mentally.
Neither does Seven. Why is that not suspicious to you?
Because she was betrayed by her “friends”.
idk, i think the band doesn’t want to talk about the vote simply because they feel extremely guilty about it. i think it’s normal that they find it to be an uncomfortable subject to broach with mc - especially since seven and the mc knew each other and were already bffs before any of the band came into the picture, and the band is partly (if not completely) responsible for ending that friendship (or relationship in the exes branch), even if that was not their intention. i don’t think it’s because they have something to hide necessarily, just that they all want to avoid any conflict within the group over something that happened years ago. it’s a shitty to do, especially in the mc’s pov, but i think it’s pretty realistic. lots of people would rather run from guilt than confront the consequences of their actions
but who knows, maybe when we get the full vote-party flashback we’ll be able to see if there was actually something extra going on behind the scenes
yeah, i think that was the extent of what the band thought too. ik a lot of people in this thread don’t like the band at all (i’m a bit wishy washy on the subject lol) but i highly doubt that any of the group intended for things to develop the way they did. they were a struggling band that wanted to appeal to what the fans wanted in order to possibly become more successful
it makes sense. they just didn’t expect what would happen w seven and now they feel bad talking about it lol
I don’t understand why we’re ascribing more significance to the vote than “the band did better numbers with solo singers than with duets”.
Idk, when I think of the vote I’m not even thinking about it from a narrative perspective, I’m thinking about it from a writing perspective. None of the band members seem the type to care about numbers so strictly that they would ruin MCs relationship, regardless of their feelings to Seven. I just think it would make more sense if there was another factor that made the vote HAVE to happen
I think if there’s an unknown here it’s Seven’s blow-up at the party.
But that happens after the vote, no? If so I think it’s a valid crashout lol, that has to feel like betrayal to Seven
what confuses me the most is the fact that 7 themselves knew before the MC too and didn’t say anything like this diva really goes out of their way to handle things in the worst ways possible i swear ![]()
Seven suffers from a severe chronic case of main character syndrome.
Seven is deffo the Sasuke of Infamous lmao
They even got their own Taka squad now
I think there’s something up with the vote too. There were some moments that had me narrowing my eyes with suspicion cause it just felt a bit…off. Plus the conversation with August about the audition felt very much like it was hinting at something. The story is deliberate about getting it on camera that MC is still puzzled by how they were ghosted by the label. Interestingly, the band remains unaware of this conversation. Chekhov’s gun much?
I honestly have a whole theory about this that I’ve been ruminating on for a while.
*puts on crazy tinfoil hat*
What if the band wasn’t rejected by the label? What if they were accepted, but under one condition: MC will be the sole lead singer.
There were many instances this chapter where I got the impression that the band might be hiding something from MC. The staged scene, for example. They were avoidant and cagey about Seven’s departure to an unnatural degree. I used to think perhaps it was guilt that was holding their tongues, but clearly that’s not the case, as is evident by all the jokes and callous remarks they make about how much Seven hates MC. And if you suggest laying the entire ordeal to rest once and for all, Rowan says “I don’t know if things will get laid to rest exactly…” Sus.
The party flashback is pretty telling. Rowan seems assured that they have the contract in the bag, saying he “just knows”. When Iris voices her doubts, it’s mentioned that “something odd crosses her face”. MC notes how quick all their other rejections have been, but it’s been nothing but radio silence for this one. It really seems like Rowan and Iris know something MC doesn’t.
The timeline is a bit confusing so I went back to check, but it’s never explicitly mentioned whether the vote or audition happened first (but I could’ve missed it). All I found was that the party occurs “weeks” after the audition. So it’s possible it could’ve gone something like this: audition → band gets conditional offer → Seven gets demoted → party & Seven leaves → band ends up getting rejected anyway.
There’s a bunch of other things too, like Rowan interrupting MC from answering when Pope asks why they voted Seven out, Seven saying they gave up a lot so that MC&co can have the “perfect little band” they always wanted.
The most suspicious one is definitely the challenge scene. I found it rather bizarre how desperately insistent the band were about picking SV. Their reasoning about Seven having too much ammo doesn’t really hold up imo. Sure, Seven can throw emotional gut punches like no other, but they’re not vindictive enough to put the band’s career in jeopardy like that by writing something truly damning. You’d think people who were their best friends for a decade would know that. Seven had ample time in the past three years to smear the band publicly had they wanted to. They don’t even bring up the details when asked about their departure in the BotB interview. Plus, Seven hasn’t really been all that mean to the band and has barely talked to them iirc. So I fail to understand what exactly warrants the band’s fear that Seven is out to destroy them. Unless there’s something they don’t want MC finding out…
Given how this chapter seemed to focus on MCxBand dynamics, and how Amy’s been hinting at “revelations” and drama going from 50 to 100 in chapter 5, I’m poised to believe that there’s going to be a big blow-up between MC and the band. I think the episode with MC and August’s conversation will air (which we know the band decided not to watch this chapter, perhaps as a setup for max drama?), leading to Seven confronting the band and MC finally finding out.
I realise there’s likely a lot of holes in this theory and it’s probably all just wishful extrapolation and confirmation bias talking and me just reading too much into it, but the possibility of all the drama that could stem from this is so exciting haha
The vote was before the audition, though.
It’s vote->audition->party argument between Seven and MC
I agree, they would rather pick Blake that not only hates them but is a bad writer over Seven!?. There must be something more then just vote.
Are you sure? Do you remember where that’s mentioned? I searched through ch 4 again but still couldn’t find anything ![]()
@Cloud845 Right?? Blake is the objectively better choice. Having to sing about cheating on a show you allegedly cheated to get on is far worse than whatever Seven could come up with. Really makes you think there’s something fishy going on there.
