I didn’t, but I’m in agreement with writer’s vision here. While I often enjoy romances that are more toxic than 2000 Baia Mare cyanide spill (here’s hoping you will deliver, 7), I also love honest, uncomplicated, no strings fuckbuddies.
I was going to say “that’s surprising” regarding the Dakota post, but then I followed the link and so the “until things progress” bit and yeah it makes more sense, cause for a sec I thought I dreamed that one pov of theirs.
And on the topic of characters we like, outside of the more prominent cast cause that’s a lil boring, I’d have to pick Dakota too. I wasn’t onboard from day one, but idk I really like how Amy wrote them. They’re fun and interesting and fun. Hope to see more of them soon!
MC has two hands after all
Oh super interesting post. It’s actually quite timely too, because since I read the sneak peek I’ve been rethinking Infamous and I’d been wondering if Amy was playing it safe in certain ways and then a day later this is posted. I can’t say I blame her though, it’s probably the most popular WIP with the most invested fanbase and once something is that popular it’s even harder to commit to things you know people won’t like, even if it’ll serve the story and the characters better.
Lmao if onlyyyyyy
Yeah, Dakota is actually fun. With the updated chapter 4, I didn’t feel like playing for each of my characters, so just made an amalgamation of them called Trouble who romanced everyone. It was oddly amusing to have a crush on G, then go fuck Dakota in the bathroom. I think I may have to actually give that kind of MC a chance.
Speaking of Dakota, there’s a special out now for them!
Yeah, I can see both sides of it. Making a LI who is… not nice… to the MC, or treats them like a notch on their headboard, runs the risk of alienating people from that romance, at least if it’s actually supposed to be a romance with the possibility of a “good” ending. I’m not convinced any of the sub-ROs will have a good ending, but that’s just my guess based on the fact that we have no control over the ending we get with them.
But if the LI who acts that way is actually that way, it’s not like you can write them as a doting prince/princess, either. They are what they are. As long as things are dragged out just to be dragged out, and there’s progression, it’s not really a problem for most people.
Edit:
Ahhh!!! Whoever is on Patreon, go play Dakota’s special.
I have a feeling that having a good relationship with Cory is really going to come into play further down the line. She’s definitely a character to not antagonize. I play in an “I hate your job, but will try not to get in the way of it” headspace when I interact with her, and the game actually responds pretty well to that so far.
Yeah, she seems like like my MC well enough; although the scenes are awkward and unproductive he gives a little effort at least, haha (I should look at the code the next time I replay just to see where I’m picking up and losing points with her–just out of curiosity, not to really change what I’m doing).
Oh, I can imagine! That’s a good character detail that’s gonna have an impact, I’m sure. My guy is a bit camera shy in the unscripted scenes, but I kind of make a point to have him do or say something kind of wild/weird (like forgetting where he is for a second and blurting out that he had a dream about Seven while on camera, haha). I might lean into that more in my next replay.
I plan to ramp it up as time goes on because my man is tired by ch 4. We are going to make some unwise decisions together, he and I.
I’ve thought about that, but the code must be massive. I play a PC that really, honestly has no idea how to talk to another person and is just…constantly grasping at straws, looking for something, anything, that may seem like a normal interaction. So when Cory says her bit about making her job extremely easy and extremely hard it really lands.
Thank you for the heads up chani, first thing I did on my break and it was so good! No spoilers, I’ll try to be as vague as possible, but this pov is a good example of how Amy is perfectly capable of writing lighthearted romance shenanigans, while also giving you that !! you might get while reading a good novel/fic, when your sblorbos are about to make it to that getting together tag.
I like that it felt very juvenile but in a good way, unlike some stuff we’ve seen with the band for example, or with Seven, where I have to remind myself these characters are not fifteen.
Imo the patreon content is a huge plus in terms of morale, because you get to see the light at the end of the tunnel sdfgks.
I like how Amy does romance and I’m sure everyone will get a slice of cake by the end. Just in different shapes and colors, as they should.
This gives me a good jump off point to claim the title and the one character I hate the most, Blake.
Now, for some reason I like most characters, I genuinely enjoy even Avina as I am a Seven-mancer, due to how they think, act and are written. Only a few I’m kind of meh in attitude, Cory and G Reign, G is a manchild which while cool, I don’t like being roped even more to the mess that their life is. Cory because they are still a shit-stirrer just an empathetic one which tries to at times not just make the contestants suffer, even if I consider “just doing my job” a shit excuse, also Dakota sadly, I just don’t like their vibes.
Now I hate Viktor, that’s a given, but I especially hate Blake, to me they’re not honest really, just fucking shameless. Someone who has no real regard for the emotions of others (in a true sense not they are in a malaise of their own mind so they process and circle around things, intellectualise, self-doubt said feelings like a certain person currently debated) except very few. Is cynical (to me) in the bad faith way, of knowing how things are played yet consciously playing the game for some revenge fantasy. To me the worst of all is that fucking garbage ass excuse of “if only they knew, they would understand me and not hate me” as cope, LIKE SHUT THE FUCK UP, I WOULD HATE YOU STILL. Fucking “An enemy is someone whose story you have not heard.” Ass garbage, I don’t need to know you to point that you’re a piece of shit. Genuinely despise them so much I cannot read the RO meant snippet of them. I genuinely want them to suffer and seeing them have a modicum of happy gives me a simmering rage.
So yeah I’m snagging that title of President of the Blake Hater Club proudly. Fuck em.
lmao G would love you.
Good summation. This one hit much like Dakota’s VD special to me. And I love Dakota’s dry wit–and reactions to a very uncertain and negative MC, lol.
I… resist… falling into that mindset with the sub-ROs, since everything is set in stone with them. It’s hypocritical, but whereas I see the Patreon specials with the “real” ROs to be indicative of where things will be by the end of the game, I see the ones with the sub-ROs to be more AU, as if things could’ve possibly worked out.
Maybe. I do like how she does romance. Both the Blake and Dakota day off specials have been perfection, even if things are still up in the air with them.
I’d love to see a L one, but I guess we haven’t seen them enough in the game yet for them to warrant a special. I’m curious how things will go with them, especially since she said that would be the only romance that’s more laid back and without a shit ton of drama. Though, I think she said that about Auggy, too (I’m guessing they’re parents are the problem!).
As someone completing the Unholy Trinity of romancing ValReign and Blake, reading such visceral hate has been an immense joy. I truly applaud your crash out, and I know Blake would lap it up like a kitten lapping milk
That makes sense i was confused when you were going on about seven and mc
Oh no, I completely get your pov regarding the sub ros content, cause I was also originally thinking exactly that.
I simply prefer to believe Amy won’t waste all that good work on AUs only, cause (as much as I like the content for the main cast) for whatever reason I find myself looking forward to food regarding this set of characters more. Idk, something about Blake and Dakota is addicting—they’re fun characters to read about.
And holy shit L… I remember loving what little food we saw, but I legit forgot they were in the game before you reminded me help… Would love to see more too, they seem really fun.
@EvilChani - Seven and MC; spoiler tags.
I completely agree that there is no blatant regret right now in the MC’s thinking. Having said that, Seven is one of the reasons why the MC doesn’t feel regret yet. When we combine this sneak peek memory with the one we got at the start of the game, the MC is perplexed, as you mentioned. Not because Seven is furious about the MC “letting it happen” or the vote itself, but because Seven insisted they were fine. The MC believed Seven would tell them about any disagreements or conflicts they were having, as they typically do. Seven encouraged them to believe that everything was fine, so the MC supports the vote taking place. The band also told the MC that this “it’s just business” attitude should be applied to their band because the industry is cold, and they have to make difficult decisions for the collective of the band. This is a negative aspect, but also an expected one. This, combined with Seven’s insistence that they’re fine, caused the MC to believe the band was the exception, powerful enough to be unaffected. The fact that the MC asked Seven if they were okay suggests that the MC was concerned about Seven’s feelings regarding the vote and the demotion.
The MC acknowledges in the flashback in the beginning of the game that Seven would be upset and that anyone would be. How does one feel regret when it’s insisted that everything is fine, and you expect your best friend to be honest with you about how they feel when they usually are?Seven had high expectations without conveying these expectations. For all we know, if Seven said they weren’t fine, the MC would’ve retreated as the lead singer, regardless of how the rest of the band felt.
I can see that. Although, I would then question if they express their emotions adequately or if they have to blow up in order to convey them at all. In my opinion, being emotional doesn’t imply being empathic or effectively expressing one’s emotions. If Seven were naturally empathic, it wouldn’t take three years for them to understand the MC’s perspective or the situation they were also put in. Whether they were best friends or not, they had known the band for several years at this point, and being in the middle of that wouldn’t be simple to manage, and no one was sympathetic to the MC as far as we know, and they still aren’t.
To my understanding, they’re analyzing the vote by considering everything that occurred during the voting, whether the vote affected Seven, whether they believe they did something wrong, and so on. I’d speculate, although not definitively, that it’s guilt and panic rising internally. They’re frozen on the couch, thinking about what happened. For me, I see a character that isn’t okay with how something is wrong with Seven, how it’s affecting Seven, and determining that the vote is the cause. That, to me, is processing what’s going on and coming to a conclusion while simultaneously looking for justification based on what they were told by the band and Seven. They don’t write it off as business because that’s only how they view it; that’s what the band agreed to, including Seven.
Mind you, I’m not saying I’m right and you’re wrong; my opinion can change with more information. This is just my current perspective of it.
Yeah, it’ll be fun when everyone can actively engage with how they feel about the flashback and theorize together.
I get what you’re saying. I suppose I view it as her being a background character because we don’t know her opinion on most of what the MC is experiencing, while Iris and Rowan make their stances and opinions very known while being loud about it. This is mainly because Jazzy isn’t around. Devyn’s interactions are just bad in general to me, along with Iris’s, but the difference is that Iris makes her presence known. August’s quiet behavior differs from Devyn’s because they speak up about important matters, they try to be there for the MC, and they listen.
Background character behavior, lmao. I’m teasing.
In chapter 2, I chose " #"Tell us something we don't know," you tease, grinning.
Alas, this errored with blake
is not a variable. Peeking at code for other choices, I wonder if that *set blake %- 5
was supposed to be more like blake_negative + 1
Hello, Amy.
I’ve played the available part of “Infamous” and I gotta say, your writing is impressive.
The topics of this lifestyle feel kinda relatable and I can’t wait to see what happens in the next chapters.
By the way… I took up a hobby of recreating CoG / HoG characters on Character Creator app. Would you like to see their appearances and evaluate their accuracy to your imagination?
