The part about Batman really hit hard. Wasn’t there a whole event where it turned out the whole Multiverse was about Batman?

Don’t know… I started with the new 52 (the very first stories) and stopped during Rebirth (Before the Batman Catwoman wedding and after Tim “death”); it was more for personal reasons than actual thoughts about reading… But after all theese years I have only two words: No. Regrets.

I hate when the MC goes out of their way to play match maker for supporting characters. I don’t care about your love life, leave me alone :sob:

I feel like a hypocrite though, cause you will have the opportunity to do that on my game (only if you really want to).

There’s one CoG in the works (or published? Haven’t checked in a while) where you can sway whether a guard captain and known criminal who’ve known each other since they were kids end up hooking up or not, and depending on your character’s disposition, it can totally be played in order to manipulate the board in your favor.

Not main plot, no. I mean side stuff that you should have the option to engage with or not as you so choose, but the game tries to force you into it anyhow because apparently it was secretly not optional despite not being a mandatory plot point (like the example I listed earlier about being dragged into a sport despite it not being important to anything).

The art was nice though.

Sounds plausible.

As long as they have good secretaries. Those are vital for any organization.

Does that mean main plot or…?

It’s so strange for me, Agency is basically SCP Foundation or Second Inquisition (World of Darkness Univerve), but without cool parts. On of core concept SCP universe is how ruthless Foundation is, Foundation will do anything to achieve their goals (cannot blame them), no amount of needed violence and suffering will stop them. SI less powerful, but they are a threat that make powerful vampires run like it’s sunrise time.

And then we have Agency. Damn, they don’t even use guns. Like, why? Author don’t like violence? Okay, I can respect that, but then, why create situations where violence is necessary?

I think she specifically has a problem with GUNS, in particular. @EvilChani might know, I think she’s who I heard it from first.

We’ve actually discussed that before, the author just didn’t want to have guns in the story.

…Before then giving us a gun for the sole purpose of demonstrating that it’s useless, rather than just. You know. Not having guns in the story.

Which sparked a whole discussion about the myriad of ways guns would actually be to the agency’s benefit, and I think we eventually got told to move on with it because we were just rambling about guns after a while. XD

I’m ace myself and I hate when you get to a romance scene and the only options are basically: 1. Have sex 2. I’m not in the mood (but still implying that you want to have sex in the future) 3. Sorry, let’s broke up

I had this exact scenario playing Arcade second born today. It completely broke up my immersion.

Busy today and tonight, but heard my name, so…

Yes, it’s all because Sera hates guns.

“Shotguns and shooting a supe head would work, but I dislike guns so they are ineffective against supernaturals.”

“Guns make me uncomfortable, so they aren’t useful. The Agency has better weapons.”

More excuses that amount to “I don’t like guns”

UB hates guns, too (because she does). And blades are more acceptable, but “mean”. Because… I guess it’s better to die than to defend yourself?

The MC will continue to carry their useless gun, which won’t be featured (and they’ll probably leave it in a drawer or lose it like Barney Fife to make sure it’s never used again).

Somehow, fencing is a more useful ability against supernaturals than bulelts (because the blade is faster???).

A sword would be more useful than a gun, but still not effective…

There are more, but I’m getting pissed off pulling them up. I think you get the gist. Also take into consideration that A bled from being shot, so bullets obviously break the skin. They aren’t fucking superman.

As for those complaining about Rebecca, join the damned club. I can’t abide her, can’t abide her Mary Sue bullshit “she’s better than most supernatural agents!”, and want to throw up every time she starts getting teary or looks hurt. Most of my MCs don’t give a shit and wouldn’t even notice, so I just ignore it when it’s in the text. My MCs won’t be pushed into kissing her ass, no matter who pushes.

…So yeah, @AdelSad, no guns because the author doesn’t like guns, there we have it.

And like I mentioned earlier, the excuses are just so flimsy. We spent days in this very thread discussing how guns would actually do just fine in the Wayhaven setting, including using the tech the agency has on hand, and would honestly serve the woefully inept agency far better than anything else they’re doing has accomplished, and if the author really didn’t want to include guns in her story, she should’ve just not had them from the start and not made a whole thing about how much she doesn’t like them and how she’s going out of her way to try and worldbuild reasons why they suck, as the several linked examples demonstrate. Wayhaven is set somewhere in the UK, I’m pretty sure, and their gun laws are pretty well known, so it’s not like it’s so huge a stretch that a freshly minted detective in a backwater PD might not have firearm authorization.

Yeah, we’re back on our Wayhaven bullshit again, there’s no escaping Mr. Wayhaven’s Wild Ride.

Is it Wayhaven again?

Throw in the fact that they are useful against Trappers and it’s even more ridiculous than it already was. Hell, even if the detective just carried a shotgun filled with beanbag rounds, stinger rounds, or pepper ball rounds, they could take down a good number of Trappers without injuring them (much). Given that the “big city” isn’t too far away, they could easily get that kind of thing passed down to them as the city gets better crap. The Agency could provide it to the detective, too, to give them crowd control and more self-protection, while still ensuring no one gets killed.

That is, if the Agency wasn’t a useless, ineffective, nonsensical pile of crap.

Said it before, I’ll say it again, the only thing dumber than there being no guns when there should be are the excuses people come up with.

Literally, all anybody has to say: “I’m not a fan of guns, personally, and I don’t feel comfortable writing about them, so I’ve decided not to have them in the story’s setting.”

Agree or disagree, at least people know what to expect and can temper their suspension of disbelief accordingly.

Depending on what state in America you’re in, it’s either markedly easier or markedly more difficult to legally own a gun. California, where I live, has some extremely strict laws, but somewhere like, say, Texas, it’s not uncommon for folks to have a gun of some sort in their home.

Could be harder to get a gun in Wayhaven. I know here only police, military, bandits and people with hunter’s license usually have guns - others would have to go through several evaluations and tests to get a license and you’d have to buy a gun on top of that. Expensive!

I think only around 3,7 million people in Russia have guns and legal licenses as of now. I was always confused by American media just showing people buying guns willy-nilly in their nearest Target.

Yeah, and especially in fantasy settings, if you mention the period had gunpowder, a lot of the authors will bend over backwards to justify how there are no guns as though it was brought up to nitpick. Like, bro, I brought it up because I think it’d be cool, not because it’s a plot hole. I don’t want explanations for why we don’t have guns, I want guns in fantasy. I don’t CARE if it doesn’t “feel like fantasy”. Fantasy is based on history, adjust your preconceptions.

In case of magic being a major and obvious influence everyone can do, you’d have to explain how guns could overcome such a pressure from something that doesn’t need as much maintenance and doesn’t sink in resources. Maybe they break through magic veils like paper, akin to Pillars of Eternity. Maybe they’re not as expensive as raising a mage into an expert with skill.

Speaking of that, mages should probably be automatically signed into military at their very first breath. Given their sheer power, you can’t let any go to waste, especially if magic is shown to be rare.
