Snowflower is right! You don’t necessarily have to have Flair as your strength from the beginning – you can also get high Flair by having it be your lowest by the time you’re assigned a tutor (Max tutoring my Rosariomance!MC boosted her Flair by a lot!).
Also avoid failed actions in general because it will hurt your Virtue/Popularity a lot
Ex: Trying to tell Mrs. Hartmann off with high accomodating decreases Virtue a lot XD (since it needs High Domineering)
Getting a tattoo with low Spirit decreases Popularity a lot (I think hahah)
You can gain Popularity and Virtue with other skills too
Like Spirit and showing enthusiasm for the events
Wit and doing great at exams etc
Really just avoid failed actions XD
Yes they’re all so interesting XD
Consistency is key after all.
@Snowflower @violet @WhoAmI thank you guys!!
My Rosario!MC boosted her Spirit in that way (although she and Gonzales were friendly before the Blaise incident; she and Max weren’t ever close).
Thanks you so much for the tips! I’ve managed to get in a relationship with rosario on my last two play throughs but I’ve been trying to get engaged to her) so far it seems to be working awesomely
Thanks too and congratulations
Rosario is my favorite. I think part of it is that she is exotic. Plus manuevering around her watcher is fun.
@HarrisPS
Hello! I brought you a couple of color mistakes, all about Hartmann, seems he’s a chameleon boy! (well, boy in my walkthrough, anyway)
First art class, when you split to pairs to read a book: “Hartmann tucks a strand of light brown hair behind his ear.”
When Hartmann sees exam grades: “Hartmann tucks a strand of his pale hair behind his ear.”
Engagement scene in private relationship: “Hartmann draws back for a moment, and his blue eyes look very serious.”
Engagement scene in public relationship: “Hartmann draws back for a moment, and his gray eyes look very serious.”
- Also when Lord Haberlin announces engagement of Freddie and Auguste, and you had something with Auguste: “As Auguste passes you, he gives you the briefest of glances, but all his attention is on Hartmann now.”
Whoa whoa Auguste, leave my man alone, you’re still marrying Freddie here!
Oooooh
By you had something with Auguste before you mean
like past romance???
Maybe it’s because it’s pale light brown hair? I’m not sure though
Speaking of Hartmann’s exam grade,
Love me some love quartet situations. Would probably be a hell to code though.
@Christian.Valentine welcome to the forums and thank you for posting! This is a perfect cautionary tale for any writer to make sure they WRITE DOWN CHARACTERS’ APPEARANCES somewhere easy to find (which I’ve done for Royal Affairs). Hartmann should have light brown hair and grey eyes (though I guess their eyes may look blue in some lights).
The Auguste/Freddie goof was just a copy-paste error. I’ve corrected both that and the appearance thing and sent it off to the CoG staff.
@WhoAmI I’ve had a look at that exam thing and I thiiiink it was may have been that you succeeded in spying on the exam papers but in the code, that also meant that you helped Hartmann with tuition. Which is obviously not right! So I’ve clarified in the options that if you focus on looking at the papers, you will not be helping your tuition partner, and I’ve corrected the code and sent it off.
@Marvey I love love quartets but with so many characters it was just too much… maybe one day I’ll do a real indepth one though!
thank you for the welcome! i didn’t mean to burst in this thread with my first message being like “hey, i just met you and this is crazy, but here’s a bug in your script!” - i actually wrote a lot about why i like your game so much and what is especially great gameplay-wise, but it was my first reply and for some reason it wasn’t approved by mods now that i can post without a review, i can write it again, in case you’d be interested?
oh… but it looked perfectly reasonable as it was and didn’t look like a bug at all. the timing was reasonable. i mean, it takes mere minutes to look at papers, and there’s still a lot of time left to help. especially since we had other (very obvious) choices to sabotage or refuse to help, why can’t we sneak a peek while they memorize our advices?
also, a hartmann question! are they afraid of heights?.. or they were just nervous during athletics exam?
yeah, romance which started but then ended. sorry. i russian, i do not english : )
Don’t worry, there’s still an option to do that - the ones where you don’t care and just leave your tuition person hanging have been made more obvious!
I think they’re kind of averagely afraid of heights… They’re not super keen on them but are not petrified - but in the exam they got in their head and were nervous!
And no worries, I love hearing about things that seem weird as it helps me make sure the game’s shipshape!
@HarrisPS Then can i just tell you real quick why i think your game is awesome? CDLC is one of the bestest games i played so far, and i played a lot. I hope you will excuse me for a long read, but i really want to say all this, because i think what you did here gameplay-wise should not be taken for granted, not every game has these amazing features. Also, i apologize for all my grammar fuckups, english is not my native.
- I really, REALLY love that i can choose not only my words and actions, but also inner intentions, reasons and thoughts. I saw many games where the writing just put words in your mouth based on your previous action choice, or where you gained stats based on your words and actions, and it just felt wrong, because i can secretly think the opposite of what i said, and it’s what i truly think that defines what person i am, not what i say. Your games aren’t blind to the fact that MC might behave not exactly according to their true thoughts, which is wonderful. Same action but different reasoning behind it is very realistic and nuanced.
TLDR
-
The fact that almost everything you do and say checks your stats so you get absolutely different reactions to everything, it makes the narrative so alive and natural and genuine. Indeed, a person can attempt something and fail because they just aren’t like that, and it will show, and it will get certain reactions. You made your game not just an interactive story, but a slice of a fully interactive life.
-
Your game doesn’t have points of no return where you must choose a certain action to start something and that is your only chance. Like, in this scene you must kiss this dude and say “i like you” to trigger a romance. I played Hartmann’s route like 7 times lately (am i obsessed? maaaaybe just a little), and every time it was different. Like, one time they were both prim and proper and only allowed themselves quick hugs sometimes, another time mc pushed him to be more open, another time he asked mc to be open, another time he said he had a crush but wasn’t gonna tell, one time he confronted mc about mixed signals… WHOA. So. Many. Opportunities. Sometimes you play a game and feel like you witness someone’s fanfic, you know? Because you can’t really change things that the writer planned for the route. Your writing feels like it’s my own route, a relationship that belongs to my character and only them, because things might happen differently than in other players’ walkthroughs, and also there will be different reactions based on stats.
-
1000 points out of 100 for not being successful in romances just by always touching and kissing. I hate when games take me for a fool with emotion range of a toothpick who needs to always choose “kiss” to verify that characters are in love or move romance forward. I love when emotions are subtle and not neccessary too obvious. Your writing has that subtleness that i crave and understanding that there’s more to relationship than blunt displays of affection. Also that’s why i like Hartmann route so much - if you rush to him with your kisses, he Won’t be happy. And that’s right, not everyone will be.
-
It may seem obvious, but the fact that you can influence characters’ personalities, is just awesome, and it’s not “from bad to good”, but something more complicated and not black-and-white. I saw this feature in very few games, and all of these games were huge and famous like mass effect or dragon age. To find that in text choice game was like finding a diamond. And i also played RA demo, i honestly think this is amazing decision to make it visible, it makes a player feel responsible and more attached.
Just plot-wise, i played games with more elaborate and deep plots, but plot for me is just what happens around the character. While what happens inside the character is way more important, and your writing gives our characters enough freedom think for real, react for real and feel like real people, so CDLC is my favorite game by far. And i have a feeling that RA will be even better.
P.S. And if i mentioned RA, i want to ask, please don’t be offended, i hope what i say won’t come across weirdly or rudely… Are you firm in its name? It’s great, but there are two games in playmarket named “the royal affairs”, one is pretty famous and one is otome-something… i’m not sure fandom stuff for your game (like art, fanfics etc) won’t be lost under tons of screenshots from other games. Sorry for bringing this up.
For some reason you need to separately spoiler tag each paragraph. I’m not sure why, but I found that out the hard way.
You can also hide TLDR stuff by clicking the gear on the top right of the posting interface and choosing “hide details”
Like this
The stuff will be hidden.
you’re a lifesaver! i search everywhere on forum for the code
That’s really lovely, I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Re the Royal Affairs title, it’s not set in stone - will probably talk to the CoG staff about it closer to the time, at the moment it’ll be a looong way till release.
