Ah, that’s what I get for adding a tiny bit to choicescript_stats and thinking it’s so minor that it’s fine not to Quicktest! Fixed and updated. Thanks!
WELL. I have been thoroughly buried in work, and have been dreadful at updating this thread. But it’s for good reasons - I’ve just today FINISHED MY FIRST DRAFT!
It is vast, it is dramatic, there is lots of smooching, feelings, dancing, lacrosse, beaches, and a small fire. I’m incredibly proud. I’ll post more details about current wordcount and the like tomorrow, but I just wanted to let you know, and also to say a huge thank you for the cheerleading and support.
I’ll be doing a big old batch of final-chapter playtesting and fixing over the next few days, then it’ll get submitted for edits and be changed from “in progress” to that juicy “draft review”. Whew!
(You may be amused to hear that in our Borderlands 2 session this evening, @FayI gave me an orange shield (one of the fanciest levels of item) as a “congratulations on finishing your draft” gift, because that’s the kind of spouse she is.)
And I’m sure, judging from your WIP on dashingdon, that it will be magnificent @HarrisPS! Thanks for this really beautiful moment that you shared with us, and a bow to your lovely spouse!
It was a corrosive spike shield, my favourite
I shall have to console myself with some Crème playtesting. Y’all, it’s so good. @HarrisPS has outdone herself!
I innocently read this sentence as: “It is vast, it is dramatic, there is a lot of smooching, feelings, dancing, lacrosse, breeches and a small fire.”
Carry on.
I feel like I’m missing something here (curse my naïveté).
Some notes and stats, for those who are interested! Subject to change, since we’re not onto revisions yet - but it’ll be intriguing to see how revisions change things.
Total wordcount: 346551 words
Average playthrough length: 50000 words (that’s one The Great Gatsby, Of Mice and Men, or The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy)
I started making the game around 1st June, 2018. So that’s just under 13 months’ work, with an average of approx 26000 words per month! (Plus editing, testing, and planning.) This is the largest project I’ve ever made, and the most I’ve ever written over a sustained period.
A couple of firsts for me:
- This is my most romantic game, with nine love interests (I still can’t quite believe I went for that), one polyamorous trio, and ten opportunities for a marriage of convenience. There are more sexy (and just more) romantic scenes than in Blood Money; we’re not talking Heart of the House or Werewolves levels, but if you like that sort of thing, this may appeal to you.
- This is the first game I’ve made with characters whose genders aren’t fixed. It’s been a fun challenge to make sure that characters feel physically solid, present, and distinct. I’m very interested to see how they’re received.
Below is a graph showing the cumulative wordcounts for Blood Money, Asteroid Run, and Creme de la Creme.
And here’s a graph showing the individual chapter lengths for the three games. (The ridiculous size of Chapter 10 of Blood Money still makes me laugh. Probably best not to follow my lead on that one, people.)
Hey I didn’t notice until now that Asteroid Run and Crème have such a similar chapter word count trend at the end!
Who are part of the poly trio? :o
I’d rather keep it under wraps for now. But I’ll probably post about it after the game comes out!
I am dying to Play my Mean girl in my Mean girls cuple relationship SOCIETY will fall under our stilettos. The school will have to fall under our popularity and ruthless charisma.
Now may I beta-test the game?
The beta hasn’t started yet, but I’ll post on this thread when it does, and it’ll be posted on the main forum too.
Been doing a whole bunch of edits, fixes, and expansions based on some small-scale playtesting, and now I’ve gone past 350K! This thing is a behemoth!
It may be terrible for you but im doing a fist pump and thinking “yes!”
The game is now at draft review! It currently stands at a hefty 354,000 words, so that’s 8000 added since the initial first finished draft. (In play terms, I significantly expanded a branch in the climactic chapter to give the player more action and agency. Plus did various more minor expansions and fixes.)
So now it’s time for a (brief) breather for me!
Go with your spouse on vacation because sure the community will burst new suggested content for the beta. So time to rest
Haha vacation will be happening, but not for a while! Going to do some yoga and chill out while @FayI plays Neverwinter Nights this evening now that our son’s gone to bed
Online or the enhanced Version? Just curious
I think it’s the diamond edition? Not sure, I’m a Baldur’s Gate gal and didn’t play much Neverwinter Nights when it was first out. Fay loved it though, it was her first D&D experience
