According to the mc’s description Rainn was looking at the person longingly so it can’t have been an act for promotion. Most likely they have some real feelings for that person. But, I do think they are a coworker of importance.

According to the game MC was also sitting five stories up, in the middle of the night. Somehow i have doubts they’re capable of seeing Rainn’s actual expression with enough clarity to discern “longing”.
It is what they believe they saw, i’m not disputing that. But we can certainly question that belief – not only the narrator here isn’t guaranteed to be reliable given their state of mind, but the circumstances of their observation also allow to put the accuracy of it into question.

That is what they saw can’t dispute that, or maybe that’s what the plot wan’t you to believe they saw who knows.
But it’s really not impossible also. People can be attracted to other people even when in a relationship.
Honestly have not seen people get this het up about a game for a while…can kinda understand why the author might not want to make their own thread lol.

IMO It’s really okay to theorize. There’s no need to police each other’s theories or what is ‘too soon’ or ‘too much’, as long as everyone understands: it’s not that serious.

Could be opposite also. A senior associate taking advantage of a young upcoming lawyer who recently broken up with their lover. But the way the mc describe from the balcony the two in the parking lot seems genuine.
It was deep enough that Rainn proposed to live together and MC accepted. Nik said multiple times that they were in love and it was a serious relationship - the first serious one for Rainn and certain MCs. Just because Rainn broke up with MC for whatever reasons (we will be privy to later) and did it in a shitty way doesn’t mean it wasn’t a deep meaningful relationship.

Based on the author’s replies, it’s clear that Rainn didn’t cheat. But people sure are hung up on that topic. I don’t care if Rainn cheated or not. It just adds to the angst and drama🤤.
But I believe the author is playing it safe by just having a bad communication as the cause, ‘they misunderstood’, ‘there are things they can’t or forgot to say’, etc, etc. This is also the cause of breakup in ALL of IFs with an RO ex that has a premise of “Recently broke up with my ex, I think they cheated. Life sucks.”
It’s an easy setup for a premise with an MC that has a negative headspace at the start while adding angst/drama/anger to the RO ex WHILE still absolving them for most of the issue since they didn’t actually cheat lol. “I want to be angry with you cuz drama but I still don’t want you to actually hurt me because the player might get upset so just have a benign miscommunication issue where we can have this angsty relationship and in the end have a wholesome understanding.”

I think your right, but I think they did date someone after the break up.
Still not cheating. And I’m pretty sure the MC can date many ROs too.

Yes technically, but considering how fast they are able to date someone. Don’t you at least suspect they might have been pinning on the that person before the break up.

No I think Rainn’s response when asked and the author’s replies are pretty evident:
"They knew Rainn was dating mostly because during the “good” times of the relationship Rainn would either 1) not attend after-work functions to spend time with MC on the phone or attend those functions and then leave to talk to MC lol.
Rainn was always very busy but every minute of free time was spent trying their best to spend time with MC. Rainn didn’t talk about MC a lot though, for reasons we will find out one day <3
Rainn never talks about their personal life a lot but when co-workers would joke about them having a secret partner Rainn would laugh awkwardly and say “yeah” so they would confirm at least 
There’s a lot of reasons why Rainn acts the way they act we just have to see!"
I subscribe to the idea that someone with better position than Rainn might be pursuing them but Rainn can’t easily rebuff them since it could affect their chances of having that senior associate position. So Rainn has to play nice for a while, tell nobody about their SO, and not tell their SO about the promotion since it would be an awkward conversation to be like, “yeahh there’s this person who’s into me but I can’t easily reject them so I have to keep on playing nice.” So yeah, I think it’s simply a miscommunication issue.

Personally, I’m choosing to believe Rainn. He thinks he just doesn’t have time for a relationship right now, and he’s a bit of an idiot who doesn’t know how to
A. Express his concerns to his long term partner, and
B. Actually break up with someone
Some smart people are actually dumb when it comes to hard feelings and interpersonal stuff. And I get the feeling that Rainn is one of them.

That’s basically cheating. The reason does not matter. The moment you entertain the advances of someone when your in a relationship even if it’s for your career it’s already cheating.

I think some people are very insistent to pile up as much blame on Rainn as they can because they feel it’s going to make their own MC dating and jumping in people’s beds 2-3 days after breakup more justified in their eyes. /s

That’s not cheating or entertaining someone’s advances. That’s just being silent and not rejecting someone outright. That would be like if a boss is hitting on their secretary but the secretary knows that they would lose their job if they outrightly reject their boss so they would constantly try to shift the conversation, avoid them, or just laugh when their boss makes a weird comment.

If someone superior is interested in rainn and rainn finds it difficult to reject their advances then that would be a case of power imbalance rather than rainn voluntarily entertaining their advances.
Anyways, as much as I love reading about theories and such, I don’t think we have enough information right now to say anything for certain. As someone pointed out before, rainn still has mc’s picture as their phone background, they seem hurt if mc chooses to be petty and flirts with the bartender. I hate rainn too but they certainly don’t give the impression of a partner who would emotionally cheat on their s/o or move on so quickly. It appears to be the typical sitcom misunderstanding.

Oh, come on, there is no way Rainn is a cheater, it’s not that type of game there a RO could be a complete asshole who actually did something immoral.
