A series Vs. One book

True it’s not viable for CSGs or probably any IF but it is pretty neat for novels and I like it for asoiaf because readers are in their (characters’) shoes and go through the events through their perspective getting to know how they react and perceive things around them instead of being the outsider looking in. And I’ve seen a lot of people hating Samwell and Brienne povs but they’re very good at showing a different side of their world. (turmoil of war amidst commoners in Brienne’s case)

in hindsight sort of format is probably not amenable for a series because of amount of detail and putting characters’ different personalities react to the world properly. Martin himself is taking a lot of time to finish the series.

But IFs can be made by changing POV between 2/3 player characters through the series sort of like a spinoff or having 2 PCs as pov in same book who will ultimately converge (or not) by the end of the book or somewhere ahead

There already exists a HG (Hosted Game) that does this.

Edit - I believe this is it:

You beat me to it. Was just about to link that. I thought it was pretty good and uses a few different POVs.

One of Mayday’s also also switches between characters. Pretty sure it was Twin Flames from memory.

I prefer series. Sure, there was series where the sequel was disappointing compared to the first book, but with one part only books it often happens that it leaves me with the feeling that the author had a really good idea but either bc it doesn’t fit in with the planned word count or the time they wanted to spend with writing it it becomes rushed in the middle or at the ending.

I’m a bit late to this conversation, but this jumps right into a topic I’m hunting after (and having little luck finding answers, as of yet), and thought I’d add a few my thoughts to this. When it comes to a series (be it an actual book or on the apps in COG or HG), I want a definite ending to the book’s central issue. If it is a series, then there’s usually a larger issue which links them all together, but each book will have a central conflict that gets resolved but a few secondary issues left unresolved. A minor thread or two left hanging is good, as it is something that can be picked up again in the second book (where it will be solved).

As far as writing a series in ChoiceScript, I have a lot of respect for people who can do that. I have yet to figure out how to save the data of any given path at the end of the book so it can carry over to a second game, or anything like that. Those of you who can do that - I tip my hat for you. You are people who I admire.

I’m sure the only thing you do as the author is to use the exact naming convention you established from the previous book. CoG handles the saving system and, AFAIK, the only thing the system do is transport the value of variable Z to the next game’s Z.
