Any promotions happening in story?

From Captain to Major
Minor Update!
Rewrites are going smoothly. I’ve decided I won’t update the demo until I’ve rewritten most of everything leading upto Chapter 4. On an unrelated note, in my time not writing this, I’ve been working on a smaller project that I’m excited to share with you all in the coming weeks/months. It’s something similar in style to this, but in a very different era covering a very small but intense period of time.
hint hint, the 1960s…
Thank you all for the continued support! Don’t stop leaving feedback, it’s been ESSENTIAL.
Is it the Vietnam war? Or something else?
I’m thinking ether the Vietnam war or the 6 day war do to him saying it covers a very small but intense period of time
If it’s Nam you need to include a character named McCoy who bears a striking resemblance to Chuck Norris, and one John Rambo.
This looks great, I have been looking forward to more IFs based in real wars
Alright everyone, as promised, here’s the link to my other, new WIP I’ve been messing about with while concurrently working on this beauty. I’m still very deep into working on this project, but with all the new post-grad time I’ve been enjoying, I’ve been quietly working on this other passion project on the side. Enjoy!
Also - expect an updated demo for A Nation Divided soon ![]()
Ok so reading through the demo I do have some feedback. So I think it’s the last battle before you go to DC and one of the options is “I want to lead from the front with my sword drawn” or something to that effect and you get on your horse which leads to you and your horse getting unceremoniously shot and the assault momentum breaking. I understand this outcome because you made yourself just too juicy a target for enemy sharpshooters by doing that. However I’d imagined my character as a smart officer that still kept his wits sharp but wasn’t ready to lead from behind yet (like Richard Winters in Band of Brothers) so having that as the only ‘going into the fight’ option so to speak feels limiting. I feel like there should be another option something like “I shall advance with the colors” where you still go into the fight but aren’t immediately shot since an officer that has been in two or three battles up to that point should know that skirmishers are very very lethal and that he shouldn’t present himself easily. But otherwise the rest of the demo was very good.
On a side note how does one get their wounds healed?
Wounds would be healed in between acts, in my mind ![]()
Also excellent feedback, I think I have a dice system in place for that choice where depending on some stats you can escape in one piece, I have to check
Just found the demo and it is fantastic. Battles feel real from tactical and psychology elements, burdens of command feels weighty, details and character development gives a deep world that one feels a part of. Very well done. The Washington trip was a great interlude and way to introduce different characters.
Keep going and developing the story. Very well done!
Big fan of this era of warfare and getting to play an officer making tough choices in the face of complex battlefield coniditions, played the demo numerous times and was quite engaged in the unfolding story. I particularly liked that the regiment can be specialised and their stats influence outcomes as well not just your character abilities, a well led veteran regiment would be terrifying to face in open field.
Not sure if this is a bug, but when officially being promoted to major (the scene where you first meet Hox), you seem to lose more standing if the officers have a better opinion of you.
*if standing >= 55
The announcement draws murmurs of approval from several of the assembled officers, many of whom witnessed your regiment’s stand at Pipe Creek firsthand. Their expressions suggest genuine respect for a promotion earned through demonstrated combat leadership rather than political maneuvering.
*set standing %-15
*elseif standing >= 40
The assembled officers respond with the polite acknowledgment expected of military professionals, though without particular enthusiasm. Most recognize the practical necessity of filling command vacancies regardless of personal opinions about your qualifications.
*set standing %-10
*else
Several officers exchange skeptical glances, clearly questioning such rapid advancement for an officer with your limited experience. Colonel Hox’s expression is particularly sour, suggesting he views your promotion as unmerited favoritism.
*set standing %-5
Doesn’t really make sense to me that you’re losing more standing if the officers like you more.
The standing is reduced because of your new status as a higher up officer. basically, more people to impress (or piss off) - so standing gets reduced to simulate that what may have been a high standing as a low officer, doesn’t mean the same as a Major.
I know im looking forward to seeing the improvements you have been working on and what is to come from where we left off. An impressing are peers like we had the chance to with are own company we had lead. Exspecially that one colonel that didnt like us for existing lol
How are you progressing with the story? I hope everything is fine because there is nothing new for two months
Author doesn’t have an obligation to post.
I hope development’s been going well and that you’ve had some success in gaining employment after graduating.
i think there can often be a lot of negativity around wips so i just wanted to say that i played this over the weekend and it is really a standout. it demonstrates real care for both characterization and story as well as passion and knowledge for the era and the history. first rate stuff!
