Thanks very much. I’m wondering: what code did you use to factor, for example, willpower and perception into empathy?
*set empathy round(((wil + per)/4) + (emp_level * 10))
So I average willpower and perception and halve it. To this I add empathy level times 10. So basically, it is a number between 19-84 to begin with a max of 104 in later chapters.
Really interesting @JimD you are really following very similar system to Neverwinter nights and another pc games under D&D rules. So congratulations, Im amazed about level of detail and professionalism you use in your games .Also there would be some kind of Haven customitation associated to maximum a stat or two stats combined ?
I put a example i got maximize ranged weapons and crafting poisoning bolts, that could allow me to built a Balista with poisoning ammo? Balista is the big machine romans used that drop giant bolts is similar to a big crossbow. Or could i drop like ancient greeks jars filled by poisoning snakes or scorpions to the bandits? Maybe too much work but it could be so great IAP . Imagine a geek engineer with max crafting and science with a laser beam weaponry or somesort of electronic defence surrounding the haven.
([55]+[60]/4)+([3]*10)
(115/4)+(30)
(28.75)+(30)
58.75empathy_at_level_3
([55]+[60]/4)+([4]*10)
(115/4)+40
(28.75)+40
68.75empathy_at_level_3
Errr . . . is there something missing to the equation? Does the previous empathy level effect it anyway? Let me run through the skills scene again . . .
On rerun:
Empathy Level 0=29%
Empathy Level 1=39%
Empathy Level 2=49%
Empathy Level 3=59%
Empathy Level 4=69%
Empathy Level 5=79%
Strange. I wonder: Did you change the code in anyway? Even moving the order of numbers is pertinent.
@Marajade thanks. I tried to make it like old-style RPGs, which is my passion. And yes, I plan to combine skills. For example, crafting and driving may allow a bad-ass zombie killing van.
@adjppm1227 your math is fine. In your first example, it should read 68.75 empathy_at_level 4.
Did someone say translate spanish?
Are you aloud to say how many survivors we will be sharing our haven with?
Oops, my mistake. Thanks for catching my mistake for me. :). And I had a random thought. If you have a science percentile of about 65% (the exact number escapes me), how advanced are you? Obviously, you’re not Newton or Darwin revolutionizing their respective fields . . . but do have somewhere in the vicinity of a bachelor/master’s degree in the field?
Also, when you say “science,” you’re talking about biology, physics, *and* chemistry, correct? Because it’s very plausible that you could be a master biologist, with comprehensibility in in vetro-fertilization and advanced mitotic cellular division. without the slightest clue on string theory or the effects of radium on the body (i.e. Madame Curie).
P.S. Is it a safe assumption that medicine and science will intersect at some point in the storyline, for whatever intensive purpose? (Say, for example, examining the structure of the cells infected with a form of an influenza outbreak in the compound of which you reside.)
The music crescendos, and you can’t hear Madison’s next words. She leans in and touches your shoulder, sending a chill along your back. You catch the word “kiss” but loud voices swarm you from behind, followed by a small pack of Madison’s friends. They drag her along the path to the pool house, and he disappears inside the small shack.
Gender flip the he should be she.
She’s been talking about you all day."
“I saw him for a minute.”
Again gender flip should be her.
“Oh, there he is,” Anthony says and runs back to the outer area of the yard. Glancing back at the pool house, you watch Madison and crew leave the area, laughing and stumbling, a cloud of telltale smoke seeping from the open shack.
And yet again XD.
“Something is wrong; we have to get somewhere safe. I don’t know what’s wrong with them, but”
A control character slipped in, nasty little bugger.
Around the corner, you slip on fresh snow but regain your balance and rush to your bike chained up on a pole ahead. The car sirens return and a bevy of helicopters soars low across the neighborhood. Random gunshots blast the air, mixed with mad howls and pain-filled yells. On the other side of the avenue stands a lone figure staring at you. His face is dark and peeling, with one eye bulging and malformed like he suffered a head wound. His back is craned but shoulders…
but a preface to that —
You park around the corner and walk up Milford Lane, sculpted shrubbery to your right, immaculately clean suburban avenue on your left. Light snow falls from dark clouds, but the sun fights to shine through. Walking closer to the house, you spot several classmates walking through the drive way, some sprinting from parked cars wearing shorts, flip flops and bulky winter coats. You catch a glimpse of Taylor Regan, Madison’s best friend. As she runs up the driveway, her coat flies open, exposing a lime green bikini top underneath.
Gives me the impression that character had a car/vehicle, nothing major just stuck me as odd.
Can’t wait to see what you do with one @JimD especially with disavantages option can not wait to see what you do with those.
Also if you choose to set your own stats for a teenager you get full allotment of points to distribute instead of the reduced amount.

Which is 25 (7 unspent points) if my math os correct so a little tweak is needed here no?
At the first part, when you are asked if you like males or females or both, the options are Male, Female, Males and Females.
It should be Males, Females, Males and Females
That’s what it is though…
Also I am syked about the teenager story path.
syked? :-? What that means? puzzled? excited? I never play the teen background yet, i have to look but im so tired being a teen in the apocalypse lol, there are a tons of apps even wips here.
@marajade it means excited
thanks @vamp another world to my mental dictionary
@lexlexx Suspending disbelief is not something that’s entirely up to the consumer. It’s up to the content to engross you in its story or gameplay, or whatever, and make the suspension of disbelief easy and worthwhile. If you have to force yourself to enjoy something against your will, you might as well not bother with it if you have a choice. I think JimD is a skilled writer, and his first game really engrossed me into the story at first, but eventually I realized that I just wasn’t enjoying it anymore. It just kept getting more and more depressing for no plausible reason except that it was written that way, and by the end of the assault on the church I just couldn’t stomach any more. It seems like this game is going the same way, only a lot quicker than the original did.
@Storm it will depend on numerous factors, but 5-10.
@adjppm1227 yes, in the science background, I’ll give options to pick a specialty. You will have a PhD (post-doc). I still have to work things out.
I wanted to steer things away from science in this game but readers objected already. I do plan synergies between skills. For example, stealth and survival allows for camouflaged camp sites, so medicine + science will be worthwhile.
@Pace675 thanks for finding those typos. I will fix the errors in the skills section, too. I appreciate your review of the premade vs custom teen.
@Xt1000305 great point.
@Shoelip yes, Safe Haven is probably not a game for you, though I’ll miss your feedback. Just think – you saved Candace.
Excellent. (Biology for the win.)
And steer things away from science? The world is science! *dramatic music*
Could i being Phd in Poison? In a world where hospitals and police dont exist poison doesnt need ammo and his work could be so silent as always . A infected rotten wild pig flesh in the water surce of bandits … botulism would slaughter them like a plague.
Sorry I havent been as active as with ZE1, been very busy on my end. I still read through it and like what i see so far. Ieven managed to find a few things when i skimmed through it.
-The Laborer is a catch-all profession for those ‘with’(who) perform physical labor,…
-Movie Stars are actors and actresses who have achieved ‘notoriety’ (wouldnt ‘fame’ sound better here? notoriety is a term associating with negative press or infamy. or was that what you were going for?) for their craft.
-You jump as the smartphone in your pocket vibrates, and you view the screen… Jaime. You decline ‘the’(replace with ‘his’ to immediatley let readers know his gender. jaime is also a popular female name so some people might assume that) call; there are more important pressing matters.
-There is a darkness in the clouds that ‘castes’ (casts) a shadow on the plains,… – forgot where i found this
-when checking your emails, for a majority of the professions from mixed martial artist and down, youre never given the option to ‘close your emails’ forcing you to check all of them to exit.
-in the hackers story portion, when you meet juli, it says “I didn’t even know you’re in town.” i think ‘you’re’ should be ‘you were’. you’re=you are
also “While she has been anti-cracking for most of her professional career, being mixed up with a group like LEGIT suggest(s) she’s at least dabbling in the dark.” and "As you delve further into the papers, you learn more and more about virus Zeta, a virus of enormous infective potential, speeding through small populations of people in Australia and Asian (Asia) like a spark hitting gasoline.
wasnt it juli’s finger that jason kept? i think thats pretty cool that you brought her into the story like this.
suggestion: for the police officer class, might i suggest branching it off with patrolman and detective? these would be vastly different experiences and worth playing through as each of them.
thats all i got for now, ill try to read through them all when i get a chance. really love how its starting off.
