Ahem… I actually never seen or heard the references you mentioned… what does that say about me?
I was wondering when it comes to the nephew, how many people try to shelter or preserve his innocence and why ? Also how many people try to make sure he’s prepared to face the horrors of this new world ?
I think (as with most things in life imo) a nuanced approach is best. He should be able to at the very least defend himself and all that entails, while being cognizant of the dangers that (barring a miracle cure) are the new standard for life going forward. Anything less than that is neglectful, at the same time I wouldn’t want to encourage him to be an unfeeling, remorseless killing machine; empathy and the quality of mercy are important to basic decency. My job as his guardian is to give my boy the best chance to survive in the world, while being a productive member of society (or what’s left of it).
As for protecting his innocence, I agree to a point, there are ways to show him what the world requires for survival without throwing him in the deep end. That said, protecting that innocence by coddling him and denying the realities of what he may have to do to survive are going to hamper him later in life.
Personally I’ve always been of the school of thought that kids are more resilant than most adults give them credit for.
Don’t worry, I just watch too many tv series or movies :-)
I think World War Z (the novel not that movie that had nothing to do with the book.) Did a great job of showing depth of character, trauma and different perspectives of survivors across the world. Not to mention the brutal sacrifices they had to make in order to survive. Would an apocalypse not be a catalyst that allows brutal and sometimes senseless violence to take place ?
Are you talking about the never ending tv show ? Or Telltale’s(now Skybound’s) The Walking Dead ? Multiple betrayals happening I don’t think so but a betrayal or 2 happening definitely possible. On a side note, I honestly hate the hypocrisy and self-righteousness of Rick’s group(mainly during the interaction of Negan) They literally snuck into a compound of the Saviors(who had done nothing to them and killed 30-40 Saviors in their sleep for guns)but Negan is the Monster for avenging his people.
FYI: I’m not ignoring the fact that Negan was a power-hungry Warlord who forced women to be his wives and subjugated multiple communities to serve and provide resources for him. I just don’t like the fact that the group just ignores the fact that they started a fight and seemed arrogant enough to believe that there wouldn’t be consequences for their actions.
It’s possible, but to me it seems fantastical to believe that humans are just going to band together against the threat of the walking dead and not form the belief that we need to revert to a sense of tribe/group mentality where if you’re not one of us or we don’t know you, you are or could be a threat to the life we have fought for or are currently fighting for and we need to protect what we have from the outside world(living or otherwise). I’m in no way saying everyone would revert to that but, I can’t imagine that as time went on and we started adapting to the world, we wouldn’t change in some irreparable way regardless of how we started out or how we wanted things to be. But the circumstances we found ourselves in or the world we are now in made that easy to be taken advantage of resulting in a fatal error.
I try to find a balance between them, like he needs to learn to defend himself and know when to trust others, but he is still too young to know the grown up stuff like sometimes sacrifices have to be made to preserve humanity, and try to shelter him from the scum of humanity like Keith for example, because he’s still young and impressionable and if someone he likes is killed or hurt and MC doesn’t have a good relationship with him, then he can become depressed or maybe even think that what they’re doing is necessary and not just an excuse to condone their barbaric behavior.
I agree with you on that… which i think we don’t necessary need to start a fight or battle for personal belief or gain, which is why i won’t agree to storm into Keith’s group unless there is a valid reason such as saving Kelly (in case she was kidnapped ). In an apocalyptic world , to start a righteous quest as a “saviour” is pre-mature … unless we do so to save someone we hold dear or someone who we definitely think need our help most
Most probably, i would endorse a "stand my own ground " strategy in creating a safe haven of my own to habour those who would want to seek refuge, but definitely won’t want to poke a hornet’s nest …yet
It would… no question about that , but in addition , it could also promote self righteous , self redemption or even self enlightenment where some would prefer a soul searching journey of their own such as Sarah connor and John in Sarah connor chronicle, Eli in Book of Eli and Cassie in the 5th wave …
Hence, there could be Good or Bad that emerge from the myst of apocalypse
I would believe and think there are some who feed on “ideal” as their reason to survive , some might prefer to feed on pragmatism to obtain food , shelter or other comfort as their means to live on their remaining life, but there are also those who feed on the self-righteous ideal as the purpose to continue life of drudgery , without such ideal …these people would prefer to stop their life now rather than continue a life that is against their will or principle … these are the people who would held high on the belief to survive …
I quote from the 5th wave
" But if I’m it, the last of my kind, the last page of human history, like hell I’m going to let the story end this way. I may be the last one, but I am the one still standing. I am the one turning to face the faceless hunter in the woods on an abandoned highway. I am the one not running but facing. Because if I am the last one, then I am humanity. And if this is humanity’s last war, then I am the battlefield.”
“How do you rid the Earth of humans? Rid the humans of their humanity.”
With such phrase , i strongly believe there are many out there who would hold strong to the ideal of maintaining their own humanity
Even in my goodie playthroughs I do not shelter my nephew, since it would not make sense. I want him in the end to be able to live on without me. And since the new world is brutal he should be getting used to this.
for my evil playthrough, I think I have to play several of those, there is so much content that I miss otherwise. The execution for Lyle and Jillian wasinteresting, and Nora is really fun, when you are a bank robber^^ The way she directly told you, that Reilly is in love with you, was hilarious.
I think in my next playthrough, I play as a maniac to see how many people I could get to kill.
@Eric_knight: I think if such a scenario comes true, you will be right at the end. Cause humans are week and even if they do not realize it, they need each other. So at the long way there will be a civilization left which is build on humanity. Because the other possibilities will be the end of mankind, so I guess nobody wil be left to prove you wrong^^
@CreoleGuy519: Of course you are right in the immidiate state while the apokalypse is going on. If something like that happened I would show also the most evil in people and this could be extremly evil. But since the real evil tends to get not along that well with others it would not last. After an outbreak or other apocalyptic scenario it will show the worst of humans but also the good of humans more openly. But I believe in the end there will be only communities left which are at least neutral.
Oh not Zombie related, aber has anyone read Kings “The Stand” aside from the god/devil influence it is a really cool read and yould be to some degree realistic. I like the longer version more, because you learn more about people^^
I made sure to protect the nephew and keep him sheltered from the world. That’s just instinct for me.
Mara with Marcus (nephew) is really different and more nice and protective with him same time it makes her more ruthless as she will protect him. Mara is loving with him and is trying to teaching him how all goes now and thinking in training him in weaponry however Mara is determined in teaching other skills that are more technical something that could mark a difference in his future. Mara is thinking if some sort of feudal tribes end forming If Marcus know crafting or medicine etc… He wouldn’t be treated like a slave or a peasant.
My Marcus already is more mature and understanding with violence that probably 99% of yours playthroughs.
Hey, I had art commissioned of it!
You have to commission for DARK TOMMY with a saber laser
I think you see the at of some people but the out most people speaking from personal experience I was Afghanistan their basically in apocalypse. Hurricane Katrina was bad that was just one on area of the United States most pepole volunteered to help but they weren’t were in danger like a whole world will be if this happened. I love Jericho just finished watching on Netflix they should bring it back
In safe haven 2, there are some pre made characters, it would have been interesting if one of them was from Jim Dattilo. Just to see how he plays his character. I know he mentioned somewhere he mainly plays a labourer and would have been cool to see a character that he plays.
@Chris_Schamahorn I never even thought of it. I can include one but it may not make Part 2-2.
That will be so cool The Jim run… Now I only need a Mara npc to die happy
If it doesn’t make 2-2 maybe you could post the “Jim” build for Patreon members.
@JimD I’m curious about what goes into your character creation process. When you write, are you pressured by creating romance options for players or do you create characters mainly to tell your story? With so many branching variables I imagine it can be hard to keep up with.
I hope this is an appropriate platform to ask this question but seeing the relationship(possibilities) on top this I hope for the best (also I’m sorry if this has been asked before I can’t find it anywhere)
So lopez is gay however if a mc is manipulative enough he can also be romanced by female Mc’s, this is what I am made aware of, but no matter how I play, I don’t seem to be able to get him to be a love interest of my female character(s). Has anyone an idea of the necessary steps you have to do in order to have him become a female love interest (specific choices you have to choose?)
It’s been a while but I romanced him once with a female, my memory might be faulty but it’s worth a shot.
1.I believe you need to be at least adept with empathy
(I think you also need a decent number of points into persuasion)
2. When the soldiers arrive question and kill one of them
3. When the group asks what to do with churches zombie you should choose the “we should vote option”
Alot of the choices after that can negatively affect your relationship so be careful. I might be missing some info so I apologize.
I feel like as the group cook, your group should like you more. Especially if you’re pumping up your cooking stat…
