Zombie Exodus: Safe Haven General Discussion (Part 3 beta coming in December)

The hacker is probably my favorite background option. Keeping modern tech online isn’t something I’ve personally encountered much in the genre, so it’s interesting to see those skills put to use here.

Well how do you want this infantry soldier to stand out from all the rest ? The whole point of the custom character build is to create a unique character background that isn’t offered to you in the standard backgrounds. So ask yourself how is this one special or different than a regular infantry soldier ? If you can’t answer that question or think of ways to make this soldier be unique in terms of skillset compared to the regular soldier or back story. If you’re still stuck then maybe don’t make a Green Beret try something else or don’t do infantry soldier if you can’t make a unique one that’s different than the regular one.

My advice is forget the stats and focus In what d9 you want to be. A character destroyed by last war with bad temper and alcoholic. Or a young officer very intelligent that was focused in become a sniper but has night vision problems. After thinking What your character is is easy thinking what are they attributes. For Instance if you have visual problems your perception is lower etc

I was surprised when i had a recent discussion in discord forum , when a person was asking are there any games in HG / CoG where Empathy is the most important Stats … Naturally i said Zombie Exodus Safe Haven where i basically thrive with Empathy , he was shock that anyone would apply Empathy in a zombie infested world :-)

@JimD apparently not many people realise you had made such an unorthodox game where we could win in a zombie world by applying “Charm” and not brutality …which make Zombie Exodus Safe Haven another unique game

Perhaps you should market the trait of Empathy in Safe Haven to gain more interest from players out there who haven’t try this game …

Not sure how I can work the angle but definitely worth considering. I find Empathy underrated in games and in life.

Well… some extra description on the game page such as

" What will you do in a Zombie Apocalyptic World ? Blast your way through of everyone who is on your path ? Or Survive the horror through Love ? I mean it… you could literally survive the game via love and empathy " :-):stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah … i agree with you , majority of people prefer to be the sole hero whether in a game or in real life , Empathy would require the spirit of Mutualism and co-existing with one another

It’s always nice to focus on those little things.

For example, the major my College Student took was Psychology. So, I made sure that it made sense-I made her highest stat Charisma, her preferred skills are Empathy and Persuasion and she takes any opportunity possible to talk to other survivors and learn more about them. I even gave her Delusions, so that her other motive for taking the major was maybe understanding this condition she has.

I also extended that to her appearance. Her name’s Orabelle and the meaning for that is “Beautiful seacoast”. I’d say I did a pretty good job of representing that-the “beautiful” being that sweet 69 Charsima and the “seacoast” being that everything appearance-wise she has is just blue. Blue eyes, blue hairs, a little blue butterfly tattoo on her face and a blue dress and boots to go along with it. A nice change from imagining all my characters wearing black.

@Eric_knight @JimD Empathy doesn’t mean love hippie hugging zombies. As many of my evil characters most of them are empathy heavy to better lie and detecting emotional state of others and manipulate them.
I don’t get why a goid character needs empathy if is not using people …

My good character if someday i made one will be empathy zero if you are hippy you don’t need empathy at all.

Wow what an easy target for someone to notice in some foliage and possibly gun down. (I jest, the character you created sounds really unique and memorable even if their choice of color makes them a very noticeable target.)

Is there a 3rd option ? I can see a group that just wants to stick with the people they have, settle down in a place that’s away from both people and the undead. Keep a very low profile they don’t draw attention to where they live. Doesn’t expose themselves to random survivors in the hopes of helping them/ making alliances or killing them/dominating them just a group that has what they need and is separate away from both the conflict of the dead vs. the living and the living vs. the living. I don’t think it has to be those 2 extremes.

Well… i hug live people actually , hugging zombie doesn’t need Empathy to be fair

We need empathy to exercise compassion and understand towards people we meet or works with , and yes mostly good people need to do that… for example , if our friend or colleague had just lost his/her parents , with good empathy we won’t try to emphasis on how happy we are with our parents , simply because we understand this person is having an emotional period having just lost his/her parents , so we don’t want to trigger his/her feeling … similarly if our friend had just fail in an exam or interview , with good understanding / compassion we don’t try to boast our achievement in front of our friend … are we trying to manipulate our friend or colleague ? I don’t think so , such acts are just simple understanding or compassionate effort which related to empathy … Empathy is just a kind gesture towards person which we know having a difficult time, whether the recipient is grateful about such act is a different matter

Of course there is  my initial comment was to convince people that it is not impossible to apply empathy in a zombie apocalypse world

This is a gentle reminder to please keep conversations directed at the topic at hand and not at the individuals themselves. Focusing replies on the individuals themselves instead of the topic at hand can lead to friction between members and often causes the thread to derail.

So I’ve played through a good amount of times and I keep coming across smartphones. Do they serve any purpose? Or are they junk?

Well I was only able to use the smartphone to locate Jude, but other than that nothing else

Jude will be seen again but…well, you will see him again. That’s all I can say.
