Zombie Exodus: Safe Haven General Discussion (Part 3 beta coming in December)

I mean @JimD as you know I only can talk as role player that has been years trying to maintain a zero code metagaming knowledge to be better tester. So my view is as that.

As role player I think one good use of driving skill as flavour choice. That someone in that mission says Please don’t drive you suck or the equivalent You are amazing at driving. If one of those is ro maybe a innuendo there. If character is short fuse…

And the choice Jaime offers to teaching you ro drive or maybe one of teens or nephew asks you to drive if you are good at maybe a extra if you are movie star about doing stunts or a bank robber about policial chases.

Pro Increasing a lot deepness and immersion.

Cons lot of working

Sorry if is not useful but i am a role-player code IS not my stuff. But if you need help i could build you a list or something

@JimD then my vote is to have jaime or jillian to drive. It wouldn’t be the only skill-that-has-little-use anyway  hand to hand combat is up there and that other skills.

Thing is we has been surviving just fine even without combat skills up until now so why exactly must this skill be made obligated?

IIRC you once posted you try to make teammates be proficient in different skills in case the mcs are lacking in that department.

My opinion? Leave the choice as it is.

If you have someone else drive the MC in this scenario, you will change the entire encounter with the sniper. I’m not so sure he’d be willing to deal with two individuals – he seems more likely to view that as a threat and would react violently. That would not work out well, especially if this is supposed to be a new choice/alternative for non-combatant MCs.

If we’re talking about options to reach the pharmacy without using combat or violence, aren’t there already options like sneaking to the pharmacy, sprinting to the pharmacy, or even letting the store owner try to pinpoint the sniper’s location and take a shot? I feel like I also remember the possibility of communicating with the sniper by morse code or hacking the pharmacy’s system(s).

It actually doesn’t affect the sniper scene though… before you meet the sniper, you have to drive to the pharmacy when you can ask jaime for his opinions on your relationship with ROs.

Sigh, I could post the exact scene in the code here but I need jim permission first.

I don’t know if this is a bug or what but, Jamie gives us the opinion of his about our RO. So on that drive in one of my playthroughs, I had a high relationship with Kelly and Rachel but, I was romancing Jillian. But, the choices that popped up were: ASK JAMIE ABOUT MY RELATIONSHIP WITH KELLY and ASK JAMIE ABOUT MY RELATIONSHIP WITH RACHEL. But, there was no choice of asking him about me and Jillian.

So is this supposed to be scripted or is it a bug?

Ah, that misunderstanding’s on me then! My main MC, Remy, always takes his motorcycle on a mission, so I unfortunately missed out on the opportunity to talk with him and the others. Y’know, shouting from a motorcycle to another car ain’t exactly productive. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

If the request is for Jaime to be the one initially driving, that sounds like a more than reasonable request. In this case, Jaime should be aware of an MC having zero driving capacity. He is meant to be the best friend figure after all.

What if having another drive in this situation had another opportunity cost - since we don’t want to materially change the mission itself and we prefer rewarding instead of punishing, we should reward the person choosing to drive.

Perhaps the MC who drives notices a big rig (18 wheeled) truck that has supplies in it that can be looted in addition or in place of those that are attainable normally by interacting with the sniper.

This would reward those investing in the skill of driving while still allowing those without the skill to proceed normally.

I think rewarding choosing to drive is a good idea, but this sounds more like something that would be rewarding an MC with a high Search skill, not Driving. If we tie the driving skill with geographical knowledge, it could be that an MC who chooses to drive knows a shortcut or an alternate route that might shave off a few minutes and that’s what exposes them to something new.

However… this might be moreso if the MC has a high Driving skill. Otherwise, they’d just take the default route that’s currently written and coded.

Lucky you, you can avoid getting hit, the motorcycle give out 40p in driving :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Delayed response, but did you take Jillian with you on the mission? If Jillian’s in the backseat, you’re not gonna be able to ask Jaime about his opinion. The man has some tact, though it would be funny if you were able to try and he shuts you down fast. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

The other choices popping up means, most likely, that you probably flirted or selected a choice in Part 1 that expressed some interest in Rachel or Kelly. The way ROs is tracked changed between Part 1 and Part 2 (specifically come Chapter 6) so, unfortunately, yes, this probably is a bug I should’ve caught when Part 2-2 was in testing.

@JimD, in *label JaimeConvo in Part2Day3.txt, you should change all the relationship checks from:

*if NPC_like > 0

To:

*if (main_ro = "NPC") or (second_ro = "NPC")

It looks like Woody’s is coded correctly, but all the rest are not.

Just remember he is not friend of EVERYONE for Mara he is the teddy bear guy that helped her with the parole. So jah… If he tries quit mara the wheel he will end with only a hand.

Edit All of you are seeing this as METAGAMERS and assuming each player knows absolutely alL results beforehand. CASUALS don’t casuals are like me so this discussion is like sex of angels as 90% public even don’t notice that was a drop in a health state. IF the change is notappreciating in TEXT 90% people would never notice If you made change in coding dinamics only you are making happy only meta people that in most cases will in 90% mod the game anyways.

I am being grumpy I know. But make Jim change something almost nobody will appreciate … Anyway I will shut up that i don’t want annoying people

I try to look at these cases with a hybrid perspective. A dedicated roleplayer who has invested 0 points into the Driving skill would likely play their character as not knowing how to drive, especially if the MC is a teenager. Of course, that probably won’t and can’t stop the MC from insisting on driving, but there should also be some moments where the MC should be able to go: “Uh… You want me to drive?”

I will agree that, at this point, it’s probably too late to go back and make changes to the scenes that already have the MC scripted as driving, but it should definitely be something that is considered in Part 3. Assuming you’ve been tasked with driving and driving is not your forte, enough people in the group should’ve witnessed the MC struggling (and potentially crashing into obstacles) to suggest that maybe someone else should drive. :joy:

Exactly my point. :hugs: I just wanted remember jim and his trusty elves aren’t EA and can’t change all scenes for a mere minor drop stuff. I agree that could be a great updates as immersive in future more with Safe haven maybe even declare someone the Driver.

Somwtimes I have to be grumpy to make people don’t asking AGAIN FOR ROCKETS KATANAS and helicopters.

Still I love all you guys.

Btw guys is there any way to prevent Riley from attacking the silver Thornes?? I tried to persuade both sides and I also tried to threaten them to leave in different play through ,they leave but Riley acts impulsively. is there a hidden check point for this not to happen or is it a random occurrence??

Your Allegiance needs to be at 70 or higher in order to keep Reilly in check at that scene.

Can we have rockets on the helicopters???

Great idea Sneaks, the military commander should be given a choice of what vehicle he leaves the base with. Helicopter with rockets, Tank etc… instead of just grabbing some extra ammo

You all could laughing now. BUT WAS A REAL THING … in fact one of most bizarre reviews i even saw was WHY I CAN’T HAVE A HELICOPTER? Then the infamous Guntana a bug that made one second that pc fire katana like if were a gun… And yes it was petitions for crafting ROCKETS…

It lmost gave me a heart attack… my grumpy heart cant take so much op petitions…
