Zombie Exodus: Safe Haven -- set for release 10/28/16

@JimD

Well, at least I get some money. Something is better than nothing.

Also, if the MC selects the Springfield rifle, does that come with a complimentary scope and bayonet? :grinning:

doesn’t mention one plus you can craft a scope so I’m guessing no plus no option to use bayonet or snipe bandits when they attack lyle and Lillian but you can craft silencer too so that’ll be awesome that you can go agent 47 on everyone

@Bruno_Frank_Hill the silencer is a nice idea. You can fashion one out of scrap, like army of two style and use a soda can, or temporary silencers for a one shot. Shooting a gun through a pillow muffles the sound but annihilates the pillow. Of course we can’t carry around a full sized pillow with you while zed hunting, I’m merely using a one shot example.

I’m also secretly hoping for an NPC who you should end up hating but end up loving. Really sarcastic, always against everybody’s views and decisions, with a ‘survival of the fittest’ moto and very hard but very rewarding to get along with, and maybe uncovering a very interesting backstory. Excellent character in terms of stats but when it comes to morale they’re a social pariah… Similar to Morrigan from DAO.

think I saw the silencer in craft bit of stats already and will probs be a permanent one…don’t know if @JimD will get so realistic you have to repair/get new weapons and mods and should have what you need to craft it too. and you mean heather right?lol within literally a second two of reading that thought of heather…but yeah bring on a heather 2.0 lol despit what some people say jillian really isn’t one she pissed me off so I killed her excerpt with my goody two shoes characters :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh no I do mean Morrigan. She was a character in DAO I thought I would despise but she was incredibly interesting and hilarious, everybody disliked her and she just antagonised them for fun. She was incredibly difficult to please but it was a great experience if you do and her story progressing in the game is very insightful and heartwarming. Heather was just a social pariah and I didn’t find a single use for her, she was pretty useless apart from sniping.
I’m talking about a character with a range of talents: combat, survival, scavenging. Basically the ultimate Survivalist, but the rest of your group will HATE them, lowering morale and putting a lot of people in a bad mood. The MC can choose to try to get along with them but will prove difficult, but you keep on trying you’ll crack through

I’m sure the Springfield already has a scope mentioned, not sure about a bayonet though

@Nathan_Faxon

Did- did you just describe an NPC based on me? That’s exactly how I behave in public! Of course, you’d have to add “Nervous to talk in public” and “the risk is not worth the reward” to it.

The base was falling, why risk going anywhere? You have your orders from a superior officer. The Colonel is too busy dealing with things falling down around him to bother telling you “Oh hey go wait for me at the armory and maybe grab a weapon or two”. The same reason why the Doctors don’t raid the hospital for medical supplies, they are kind of in a hurry.

I agree with you but any selfish character could give a damn and abuse the situation to obtain a advantage in apocalypse. Mara would certainly try to raid and not helping annoying random people she doesn’t know. Whatever background she is. :sunglasses:

@JimD Thanks. Also i was wondering about the vehicles you will be implementing. Will they be based on driver skill or will we get a unique choice regarding our class. Like a cruiser or swat van for the cop, humvee for the soldier, work truck for construction worker (maybe with metal sheeting or electrical wires in back)? Thanks again

I wouldn’t say selfish, they will help out because they believe in safety in numbers and survival is to work together. But they will piss off everyone by the NPC making their views very open even if it disagrees with everyone else, will go against accepting anyone who they think is useless regardless if they will die if not taken in, winds people up for their amusement and doesn’t socialise with others unless forced. But people put up with them because they become a brilliant workforce: skills in outdoor survival, scavenging, combat and other core abilities and willing to put their neck on the line for the good of the group even in dangerous situations (but will mock those who don’t take on the harder tasks). Getting along with this character means the MC taking part in the more difficult but rewarding tasks, agreeing with their views even if it means pissing off others or having high skills similar to their own which impresses them. MAYBE they even open up a little on why they’re like this if they like you enough.

@Jjcb maybe @JimD will make this character a reference of you?

So a post apocalyptic asshole Mary Sue?

Exactly what I’m going for. But at the same time you’ll love this character, even though they do everything you hate

Mary Sue characters are annoying and immersion breaking. I mean, if it’s the main character then you at least have the excuse of it being a power fantasy, but if it’s just some NPC who’s magically good at everything but is an asshole it just feels like a cheap way to introduce drama.

At least it’s satisfying if you actually manage to kill them.
Unless its because of luck.
Or they come back later because it wasn’t actually them
Seriously screw that.

Mary sue idealism more than anything else is what I’m going for. This character’s ideals are very important to them and will follow them no matter what people will think, these ideals are ‘survival of the fittest’ so rejecting the weak, pulling their own weight and chastising anyone who doesn’t and offering to tackle the obstacles whatever the cost, even other survivor’s lives.

A lot of survivors will see them as ruthless, nasty and quite possibly uncivilised. But they must respect this person for their drive to survive and what they offer towards their group, doesn’t mean anyone will like them of course.

They will be difficult to get along with when it comes to getting on their good side. They will reject comfort and console as they know the world has gone to hell and would prefer it more if the MC is straight with them, their views and ideals is important to them and if the MC agrees with them it will surprise them as many people called them inhumane for it but will respect the MC for their similar outlook, although many other survivors will react negatively for this. Your character having strong survival skills mentioned above is another plus. They will condemn the MC for letting in survivors they think they’re useless or have some sort of weakness like a health problem and such, seeing them as another mouth to feed and making tasks more difficult, bare in mind they will be like this to 90% of survivors.

I also want them to have a bad habit of rustling people’s feathers intentionally, because ‘if they don’t like me, I might as well give them reasons to do so’.

Gender? Doesn’t matter. Man or woman would fit this role equally.

Edit: I also want them to be inappropriately hilarious, how they mock characters and the little jabs they say towards the MC’s decisions.

I HATE that kind of characters, there are the main proof of a bad writing in games and literature. When a Mary Sue apppears and dominates a scene causing fake drama and unbelievable situations it’s moment to stop reading or playing all would end in Twilight or worse 50 shades of gray

like every other survivor, this character will be expendable. You will have the choice to bring them along and they can die as easily as any other, especially if they do the more dangerous tasks.

so if you don’t like this character when you meet them (trust me, their attitude will be noticeable right away) then you can ditch them, rob them or even kill them

Oh my god… Seriously? A Social Darwinist Mary Sue?

“You got pus on my bar of hardened poop!”
“You got poop in my jar of pus!”
“Hm, this tastes- Oh god it’s horrible! Why did I taste it!? WHY!?!!?”
Two disgusting tastes that taste disgusting together! Reese’s Pus Cups!

Well, a character like that would certainly be insufferable. Mainly because they’re such a self obsessed idiot. Personally I can’t see how any reasonable person would trust someone like that. I’d probably try to knock some sense into them first, but if that didn’t work I’d get rid of them as soon as I could. There’s no use for someone who’s untrustworthy enough to be that much of a liability, skilled enough to be a threat, and completely unlikable to boot. Your character is basically one of those crazy asshole survivalists who just can’t wait for the fall of society so they can show everyone how great they are… and who’ll most likely be killed quite quickly by an organized group because they have tons of supplies and spent all their time pre-collapse making enemies.

@Shoelip The day has finally come, We agree totally on something. That personality had a name of the criminology course, but sadly I can’t remember narcissistic egomaniac or something like that. They are terrible in a group dynamic and could cause violence and distrust . Also emotional vampires .
