Zombie Exodus, going forward

I played the new chapter and, although short, it’s very interesting. I’d like to find out more about the computer setup and the lethargic zombies in the later chapters, and am looking forward to seeing if these people actually manage to come up with a vaccine. Looking forward to future chapters~

@Sovereign2Lilith the option to bring back a zombie will exist but there’s a lot more to it which is hard to describe without giving away too much.

@Kamer if you don’t know the code, search the room, though if you make it down to the basement, the control panel is labeled and has the same uses. I will improve the Candace relationship with the lab assistant choice.

@IyashiiOtaku I wish it was longer too. I didn’t realize it played briefly because it has so many lines of code due to the conditions. Are you with Javier? Lights on? Door blocked? etc.

I’ll work on the transitions and typos you all caught. Thanks for all the feedback. Beta-testing through these forums is a major help.

@JimD
The options seems a bit unbalanced…

Carpenter’s water system option - Seems largely inferior to simply getting food and water. +20 Water isn’t much of a deal compared to +15 Food and Water to me.

Scientist’s research option - Should increase intelligence by a little I guess, if you are researching I guess you will be hitting up books and also practice your “problem-solving skills”.

Soldier’s training option - Should have a bigger increase in offense and maybe a slight increase in relationship. There’s no reason to pick this at the moment as it give +10 to offense, but the improve defense option also do that AND +20 defense.

Social support option - Maybe an additional bonus based on Charisma?

Scouting and mapping -
“Passing this info onto your group has led to frequent foraging excursions”
“Your hunting trips have had an impact of the game density”

This probably warrants at least a tiny bonus to food. And the fact you go to the depot straight after make scouting too pointless.

@CremePudding all good points.

With the water system, it is far easier to use the system and filter then boil than bring in water each day, so it was more of a convenience thing. But I agree it needs a bump in production.

I’ll make the other adjustments as well.

With your last point, I actually have that in my “to do” list. The option will be unavailable if scouting did not occur, but in this release, since I only gave the one option of running for food and supplies, I didn’t want to limit the player.

Thanks for the great feedback.

I really liked how Emma is getting more paranoid as time goes on. With the world becoming infested with zombies, her reaction makes sense. Especially her distrust with Javier. I wouldn’t be surprised if she did something crazy in the future.

Hey Jim. I’m really excited about your latest release to the game, but I think I’m going to wait until all parts are done, in order to get the full experience.

I know this sounds picky, but… AK47s pride themselves on never jamming. ever. I mean, if you through one in the Nile, let it swim to the other end, and pick it up, it’ll still work. I feel a slight problem with the idea that it stopped working after a quick dip in a river… anyways, I still love the game so far!

@Victoriya I am glad you picked up on the paranoia.

@Scelous I probably won’t have it done until the end of September but hopefully that isn’t too long to wait.

@devex3 It’s actually an error I will fix. If you have an AK47, the intention was to direct you to another paragraph. I’ll fix it!

I’m really enjoying the game so far, it’s very well written and there a large variety of options. I excited for more.

Are you going to give Emma a purpose? I thought she was going to bond with the other characters, giving you a chance to be anti-social, mean, or selfish without being kicked out of the group because they like her. With her paranoia, it doesn’t seem like that is going to happen. She doesn’t even seem to try to be improving her skills, only her hiding.

I guess I’ll be ok with not bringing back a zombie this time. I probably should wait to the cure is almost finished. I was planning on leaving that zombie at the controls anyways, so he could let us in when we come back later. I would have even known the places security might have been compromised if he didn’t eventually let us in on our trip back. I like helpful zombies, even if they are unintentionally helpful. I hope I will find another nice zombie to take back because the person we test the cure on is probably going to be staying with us for a while. As for the second zombie, I will just need to collect a saliva sample after killing it (something tells me sticking my hand in a living zombie’s mouth will end badly) and study it back at the lab.
P.S. I will be waiting for Devlin’s grand entrance.

@Sovereign2Lilith Emma will have a purpose but not the one you describe.

Your instincts of not putting your hand in a living zombie’s mouth are very survival oriented.

Devlin will be back very soon.

I don’t think the cure will do much to benefit the already zombified, what with them being dead and all.

I think there is still hope for a cure. From what I have seen, zombies can retain their memories somewhat and when someone is newly turned their skin will change, which I think is something more like the skin change during the chickenpox than it immediately rotting off. I worry about changing an older zombie because they would have been exposed to other diseases from their human host while feeding, making them harder to cure. I think some of the zombie rot comes from being around dead bodies, not bathing, and their digestive system may be impaired because I’ve never seen them release their waste which would negatively affect their bodies. When you saw Dave’s teeth sharpening after he was turned, that makes me think that it accelerates body growth and maybe increase a person’s adrenalin level. I think their nervous system is also affected because they have a high level of pain tolerance. If I could at least get them well enough to be an organ donor I would be ok, but the highest Bio. Class I had was just the basic class so these are all just my thoughts.

This is all science fiction, so the power of developing a setting is to alter science to make it believable yet still fantastic. I work in medicine in my day job so I have some basis for using real world methodology, but it is still fun to throw out some scientific principles. Like Dave’s teeth sharpening or the rapid body changes are probably closer to magic than science, but it builds the tension and horror faster. But on the “real” side, zombies are in a state of un-death, so rigor mortis still sets in, blood changes, respiration changes, and other effects of being alive yet still a corpse.

Without giving away much of my storyline, the scientist story will focus on prevention over cure first (which is similar to how many diseases are treated in Europe and the US).

If there is a cure, the effects on the body may not change but it may be enough to restore a person’s control, consciousness, and ability to have normal emotions. In my story, the zombie’s are rotting away, and the longer they go without food, the more impact on their bodies and therefore less chance of a cure working (as both of you said).

Sovereign… Um… They’re dead. The reason they’re rotting is because they are dead, and decomposing. Look, maybe this will explain it better.

I very much like this, I’m nowhere near surprised if you don’t, but do you have a release date for the whole game to be done? Or at least the next update?

@Tmaster99 So far, I have done 2.5 Parts, and have 6 planned. The rest of Part 3 will probably be released at the end of this month. I put up a portion a few weeks ago and people seemed to want complete chapters.

I like it! Can’t wait for more. Keep up the great work.

@Sinyari thanks! Working hard on this chapter.

I think it would be awesome if your game ended like ‘Shaun of the Dead’ where the zombies still retained their lesser functions and memories so they were used as cheap labor sources, entertainment, and slightly cannibalistic family/pets. I wouldn’t mind an ending like that at all XD.
