Zombie Exodus, going forward

One thing- if you accept Tom’s hand for help on the boat, shouldn’t your relationship with him be a bit higher as opposed to rejecting help?

Good point. I will add that to the relationship stat.

I have updated Part 3 Chapter 1 with some of the suggestions made so far, especially with the initial major choice of going on the mission to save Carl or not.

Also, due to bad weather here in Philly, I have stayed inside recently and wrote a lot :slight_smile: I previously anticipated the next chapter available in a 4-5 more weeks but should have it up next week.

Sweet. I dont have much time, but could you say what you edited on the save Carl choice?

Wait, you can bring Devlin along? I’ve run through the game like 7 times and I haven’t been able to bring him aboard the boat. Help?

@Kamer if you are hurt, a scientist, or minister, there are choices to talk your way out of going to save Carl without a penalty to relationships.

@cupcakee you can’t bring Devlin along. Was that mentioned in this thread? Devlin will be back but not yet.

Yaaaaaay! The next chapter is coming out soon! Really, you need to pump these things out non-stop. I want more!

Are the choices immediate? Because when I tried it was the same exact choices as before when asked if you’ll go.

Oh wait, nevermind it’s working now.

I just had another playthrough, but decided to experiment a bit. I was a strong scientist and used Molotov cocktails to kill the zombies at the cathedral. That is truly creative of you to think of a way like that for killing zombies. Kudos to you :slight_smile:

@JimD oh okay. It’s a great game, btw. (:

Hey Jim do u think the next part will be out before school starts friday

@Kamer thanks. I did have fun writing that section. Maybe there is a pyromaniac somewhere inside me.

@Matteller probably not by Friday. I should have it on my site by next Tuesday, earliest. Sorry!

Not a problem I don’t mean to rush you

Also I just replayed the first part a couple times and when going down the stair u see a zombie I choose the prey option as an athlete and then as a minister as an athlete it attacks me as a minister it left me alone does the preacher get perks like that often

The minister has a luck or “divine intervention” effect in certain scenes.

Hay Jim about the girl in the next part do we get an identity check on the girl I have a thought about the girl that I am dying to see if is right.

More info is uncovered in the next chapter but it also is based on choices you make.

Hi I played through this several and so far it’s the only user CoG I’ve played that’s been close to the official ones in terms of quality. I really liked it. Obviously I could see all sorts of ways I could like it more, but most of those are a bit outside the focus of this game (For instance getting the two surviving bandits to surrender to you and possibly become allies. Or exploring Heather’s building the night before to see if anyone else is alive.)

As for your questions, though I suppose my answers will be different since I’ve played part 3 chapter 1;

  1. I’m not exactly sure what this means. I liked the way things had been going so far where you were a single person who had other people with them. I don’t really know how well a party system or something would work where you control multiple characters in combat though.

  2. Definitely more focus on character building. The other survivors have personalities so far, but we haven’t really gotten any chance to know them, or build relationships. Candace is kind of bubbly, Mindy is more serious, Jason is a nerd who possibly has Asperger Syndrome (this could be played up to great effect actually), Carl is kind of blank so far. He seems competent and slightly grim. Lou seems like a friendly guy who you want on your side as long as he doesn’t have to move around a lot. Javier is a soft spoken badass. Tom seems like a natural leader type who obviously has some tragedy. To cope with, but seems ready to try to get over it. Exactly the kind of character to die heroically to save everyone else and in the process force your character to the lead. Not saying you should do that. At least not as a mandatory thing.

I think a few more not too difficult puzzles might be good. There really haven’t been any, and there’s only so much shooting zombies and talking you can do at once. Nothing so hard that it breaks the flow of the game, but you know, just something to get people thinking a bit more. There’s already tons of action imo.

  1. I think areas of real time interspersed with time skips during which nothing particularly important happens works fine. Especially if you get options for doing stuff during that time. Maybe even random events would work. Would be cool if you could find another survivor who had some useful skills. At this point we’ve got a guy who can shoot really well, a guy who’s good with computers, a girl who can sort of shoot well, a guy with a boat, and a bunch of others who are generally competent but not really in possession of any special skills.

  2. In terms of stereotypes Emma seems like a Final Girl from a slasher flick, but with a few additional bits to keep her from being a stereotype. She’s not particularly good at anything, which may end up being a problem later on if things get really bad, but she’s not particularly bad at anything either. Maybe it’d be cool to be able to mold her skills somewhat. I like her. She’s friendly, smart, and kind. Kind of a mascot. But hopefully you get a chance to increase her chances of survival if someone isn’t around to protect her.

Heather seems as far as stereotypes go to be closest to the hot girl who always gets slaughtered horribly in horror movies because they’re thinly veiled cautionary tales about good christian values. She wears short shorts and a t shirt to the zombie apocalypse, and she isn’t exactly full of love for all of humanity like Emma. She’s also rather spontaneous and free spirited (or slutty if you’re trying to be derogatory) as displayed by the final scene of 3-1. I can see what someone said earlier about her seeming like a mary sue. She doesn’t seem on the surface to have any particular flaws, but that’s all a matter of perspective. Of course there’s the fact that she was so pissed off by Devlin that she was eager to leave him to die. She’s also not that great at fighting. She’s a good shot, but she panics when she has to shoot anything and takes a long time actually getting to the firing part. I kinda can’t help but like her though due to the shorts. :slight_smile:

I don’t really like Devlin because the way I see it he’s just a jerk, no not just a jerk, a stupid jerk. He’s basically the kind of guy who thinks only about how he can screw people over to get what he wants, and he’s also kind of misogynistic too with the way he starts insulting Heather if you call him out for staring. Staring at a hot woman I can’t really blame him for, but insulting her after the fact is just stupid. I do get the feeling though that he’d have possibly changed if he’d been given the chance. If he’d been forced into a situation where his life was on the line and he was sure it was over with only to be saved at the last second, maybe, just maybe he’d have started to be less of a jerk.

  1. I think my favorite scene from part one is hands down Mindy and Candace with the brooms. Although using them to escape is pretty funny with either choice you make as well.

There didn’t seem to be as many scenes to choose from in part two. Mostly you’re traveling around dead country or fighting zombies. I suppose the first scene with the packing was pretty cool. Especially the ways it can turn out differently if you’re a bad shot. Also the scene where you shoot one of the vacationer zombies and the other one jumps at you and smashes it’s own skull against the wall.

@Shoelip thanks for very insightful feedback. I appreciate the compliments.

Your character analysis is helpful for me to read, as it gives me an understanding of how they are developing. I am trying to add more to their development, while balancing it with action and plot progression. It is tricky but hopefully the next chapter improves these elements.

I tend to write Heather as an amplification of the horror movie hot girl. Since I am trying to stay gender neutral in my writing, since women should feel equally engaged as men in the first person role, I wanted the strong female lead to be you, the main character, if you chose a female. That doesn’t mean other female characters can’t be strong but until now, Emma and Heather are not in that role either.

As for Devlin, you are maybe the first reader who has voiced dislike of him, and that’s funny to me because I tend to write him to be a jerk :slight_smile:
