Zombie Exodus, going forward

Well when we gotta repopulate earth some how why not start with heather lol

  1. Group survival is good as long as you have a major influence in the big decisions.

  2. I prefer adventure and character building more. While I don’t mind action scenes, it seems like everyone else in my group is too weak or incompetent to do the work so they just put it on me.

  3. I think real-time is better or at most two week intervals between the scenes. A month is too big a gap between the scenes.

  4. Emma- She seems like a very weak character. I was surprised by the way she got aggressive in part 3 when you criticized her. Overall I don’t really care that much about her.
Heather- She seems cold and self-absorbed. The way she wanted to help Carl but would refuse to help moving the cars made me kind of irritated. She isn’t very helpful and I don’t really like her character.
Devlin- He is my favorite character so far. He is kind of impulsive but laid-back. He is the most helpful out of the three, and he would actually help me fight zombies instead of cowering behind my back like the other two. . * ** Real-time goes better with adventure and character building. For example, the farm we rescued Carl from was perfect. If Devlin had showed up earlier in the story, not a month later, I could have told him to take all the goods in the shelter, and use the car we left to get somewhere safe. He could have even stayed in the shelter, if it was in good enough condition and we killed all the zombies, and hand me a few empty containers so I could tell the rest of the group it was empty when we go back to get supplies. That would involve getting close to Carl to see how much of the shelter he saw.

  5. I like most of the scenes in part 1 and 2.
p.s. - If you are trying to add more dead ends you can ā€œtimeā€ scenes like what devex3 said. A good place to put it is where you can choose to find a car in part 1 then go to the subway then go back to the cars. This part is broken but I think a zombie or soldier would notice all this movement. In part 1 if you choose to have a shoot out with the bandits on river road and miss all or most of them an error message pops up. You could put an end scene there.
In part 3 you have three different options on how to deal with the invading zombies. You can choose each one (if you don’t know how to make a bomb and choose the hallway option last) without a penalty. If two of your choices do not work you could have a zombie break a window (lower your defense stat), or have you or a teammate injured or killed.

@JimD

I just completely practically every path game available so far and was wondering if could sorta make a death chart for the character each chapter? There’s so many characters now and at least ONE is gonna die right? This thread seems so die out between chapter releases and I think it would be a good way to generate some discussion.

Plus making predictions are fun @-@

@Sovereign2Lilith All good suggestions. Building up characters going forward is a major part of my focus, and some of that will entail going back to Parts 1 and 2 to flesh them out.

Adding death endings is also a priority.

@Amara I will see about doing that. I have a diagram similar to it that I use personally, but I will have to remove spoilers before publicizing it.

Thank you both!

I actually made my own…i have way too much time on my hands

Is the car bug fixed yet

@Amara if you don’t mind sending it to me and if possible I can post it

@Matteller I will probably have time tonight. The game is still playable, except if you bounce back and forth between subway and cars.

Two updates:
In Part 1, after leaving the apartment, the error is fixed where going from subway to street and breaking into cars stops the game.

Also fixed is the river road section in which the game stops if you are unable to kill the bandits.

Hey Jim when will part 3 chapter 2 will be released.

Does humanity level affect the story any

@Nack 4-5 weeks.

@Matteller until chapter 3, it does not, but going forward, it will be important.

Out of curiosity how easy is it to have wildly diverging stories in choice script? What if the main character never finds his sister? Would it even be possible to write unique chapters based around the idea that a critical early event wasn’t hit? I imagine the main character would end up with Devlin running around the outskirts of the city or something.

Ok

@kavok It is basically writing 2 stories. I considered doing so early on but it is a very time-intensive writing exercise. Doing this with characters will be difficulty enough. Every scene requires an extra check for each character:
if carl is alive…
if mindy is alive…
if heather is alive…

@JimD how can I upload my CoG on a website? Can you host my demo/preview on yours?

@JimD Exactly how many are you planning to have in total of your CoG? It seems like it will be very long…

@MouaThug i can host the preview. Not sure how much room I have but I can do a preview.

@IyashiiOtaku so far, I have 5 parts planned. Part 3, 4 and 5 have 3 chapters. The published scenes go up to Part 3, Chapter 1, and I should be publishing Part 3, Chapter 2 in mid-September.

Hey Jim. I came here initially to bitch on the forums how we were getting another ā€œChoice of Romanceā€ game on CoG, but fortunately I stumbled upon this thread, and it made my day. Just got finished with Zombie Exodus so far, and I think it’s fantastic; it’s engaging games like these that make me want to make my own CoG. I’ll answer some of those questions you posted.

QUESTIONS
So here are some questions for those willing to provide their opinions:

  1. Does the group survival sound interesting or does solo survival have more appeal?

Group.

  1. For this game, should there be more action (i.e. fighting zombies), more adventure (i.e. puzzles/problem solving), or more character building (i.e. focus on relationships and even romance).

First for me is character building, second is action, third is adventure. I would love to see the characters fleshed out more, and would love for my main character to get into a romance, specifically with Mindy.

  1. Should the pace be real-time or progress over time?

I could go either way, although I suppose with progress over time, you can develop a relationship more, since you can assume the relationship has been building during the times in-between.

  1. Do you have a sense of the characters of Emma, Heather, and Devlin. Is there too limit character development so far, or just enough? Do you like them, hate them, don’t care, etc?

I think I do. The character development is good; I’m not really sure if you can have too much of it. I like Emma; she seems nice, and feels like a cool sister. Heather is a bitchy bitch and I have no desire to be around her, but is still a well-developed character. I liked Devlin, and there definitely wasn’t enough development on his part, although to be fair he wasn’t around long. I thought he got a bum deal by not being able to go onto the ship, and I kind of wished I could have fought for him more to be on the ship.

  1. Do you have a favorite scene from Part 1 or 2? How about least favorite?

Hm. It was really good all around; I generally liked it when your own character’s background came into play. For instance, my researcher using his notes and whatnot. It’s nice to see the background isn’t forgotten or discarded.

I didn’t think I had a least favorite, but then I remembered that zombie fight in the park forest. I had a shotgun, I had gun training, I came upon the park ranger zombie with him unaware, and yet when I picked to shoot, the zombie’s wired reflexes managed to grasp my shotgun, disarm me, and throw it into the bushes, where apparently there was a black hole void that my shotgun fell into, since I could not recover it. That really irked me.

All in all though, thank you so much for creating this game. I’d love to see more character development and see relationships (and possibly romance) fleshed out more; depending on how much time you progress over, perhaps some of the female characters might even become pregnant. Then that brings up the ethics of bringing a child into a zombie world, etc, etc. Ultimately, I’d just love to see more no matter which direction you choose to take the game.

I noticed a few typos, and I remember two of them, if it helps at all.

When finding Carl, it mentions he’s ā€œlaying downā€ in the barn. Should be ā€œlying down.ā€ Also, right before that, there was mention of ā€œfoliageā€ but it was spelled ā€œfoilage.ā€ Hope that helps.

Hey Jim have u thought about adding crazy cultists or something

@Scelous thanks for the feedback. I really appreciate it and am glad you enjoyed the game and story so far.

The scene in the park with the ranger was done to throw readers off a bit – to take away their most important item. I like throwing curve balls at players  I see how it can be irksome, and I may tweak it to give the option of (1) search for your shotgun or (2) continue without searching. I can also increase the check, so if you are highly trained, you cannot be disarmed.

Thanks for pointing out the typos. I will correct them.

@Matteller Stay tuned
