Just after I fought the bandits as a researcher, with a rifle(after “No, thank you” negotiations). This error popped up. Possible due to being wounded without a first aid kit.
I tryed it with a different approach, an ambush on the bandits, and got wounded again(without a first aid kit) which resulted again, in an error.

@Player thanks, I’ll look those over.

@TheKid90 I don’t discriminate sexuality (like most of the published CoGs), so same-sex relationships are possible. I do try to alter the text to make it more realistic.

With guns and melee, they use different stats and depending on situations, they alter chance to hit. I do a ranged check and modify the rating needed. For example, when fighting bandits, if you are far off and use a revolver, you need dexterity greater than 24 to hit. With a rifle, the shot requires dex > 19.

@EvilNorton I am checking out my errors tonight. Thanks for letting me know.

@Vurguzz I will look into that. Thanks for the error message. That’s an odd error but I have an idea where to look.

Did anyone try to trade items for medicine from Eugene? THAT took lots of work.

ye i did that. kept asking for more. greedy bastard. Love it

Devlin grinning at me like an idiot didn’t help much. :stuck_out_tongue:

I feel this game is too limited when dealing with your sister, Emma. You have an option to comment on her unhelpfulness if you stay home from the Carl mission, but it never goes past that. I interpret her weakness as more of a mental (phobia) than physical problem- like a person who has a fear of heights would not climb as well as a person who didn’t have that fear. At her age, she should not be that developmentally behind her sister. There are no real options for you to comment on her first mission with Javier.
I feel that if you have a 40 or less in relationship and have been visibly unfriendly to Heather around Emma –in the car, or when you wake up- she, Emma, should not ask you if you are in a relationship with her because it seems kind of random. I personally thought she was a jerk because she would go so far as to buckle up in the car to not help the team or herself, but was jumping up to help Carl. Emma said she “knew” that something was going on between the character and Heather—you should try to avoid deciding the players character without putting it in a question/choice. Overall I don’t really know what the purpose of that conversation with Emma was because it did not reveal anything about her character except for maybe being slightly delusional.
----maybe you could replace heather with Candace if you are the researcher because the player would spend a lot of time with her in the lab or use Jason if you were alone with him in his apartment or someone logical.

@Jim - Yeah I like that you don’t discriminate, was pointing out how you had it right with it’s continuity. 1 glitch however is I’m not sure what character I was rolling with but I skipped Month 1 and selected Heather “40 bad relationship” and Emma STILL asks if there’s something between us.

Also ahh I guess I never ran into that problem, usually becase I shy from revolvers.

I did trade with Eugene, but if I give him 1 or whatever, Devlin still asks for Mindy’s ipod. Well actually now that I remember, I gave a lot (didn’t count) to Eugene and he asked for “1 more” but i didn’t have anything else. So maybe Mindy’s ipod is safe if you give him that set # of items.

Haha, was tough I bet, having to mae sure that the items are of the list when selected, what gets emoved from inventory and what doesn’t, what text comes out if given this item and how many of them. Lol, I’ve never tried ChoiceScript, just RPGMaker and those variables enough scared me with this complicated work. Like i said before, great game I’m enjoying it, but don’t go overboard and make so many variables and thus lack on story quality and/or length. Unless your very determined. I know you have a lot of story potential.

Heather has some tough girl issue, theres more to her.
Emma your sister might go crazy and wants to leave.
The group has a zombie exodus theyre preparing for.
Devlin being a possible cure.
That little girl from Chapter 1 and mentioned by Dave in Chapter 2, the “leader” of the zombs.

Either way, you have my support!

@ soverign, are you saying the portrayal of Emma’s character is unrealistic? Or Emma and the players relationship? Or that there’s not enough interaction between them?

Idk, I think Emma asking you is fair, she’s your sister and loves you, Heather’s her friend and wants to look out for you. This also tells the player a bit more of your relationship with Heather.

Are there any specific events in chapter 3 that are supposed to be affected by humanity level? I’m just thinking that since they’re so far into the game it might be kind of hard to test if they work without knowing where they are. I know there are parts that raise or lower humanity since it says that they do, but I haven’t noticed anything about your humanity affecting things.

@Sovereign2Lilith I definitely need to iron out the options based on relationship rating. The reason for the question regarding relationship to Heather is actually important – it basically is the player’s choice to build the past. If you say “Nothing is going on” then nothing is. If you say you are sleeping with Heather then that’s what happened. It is an ambitious section and not nearly finished because I am focusing on the missions. Your feedback is helpful since it keeps the need for me to work on it into focus.

Emma is neurotic, paranoid, and troubled. I do need to develop her more, and that’s just one thing that nags me about how long I take to write things. I need to make her character more dynamic and it’s just not having time to “code” interaction that is tough. I hope that doesn’t sound like a cop out because I have really enjoyed writing the missions so my focus has been off Emma and Heather.

@Shoelip humanity affects the choice of killing Eugene or not. I also want to add a part where you can join the bandits if your humanity is low.

@TheKid90 Coding the trade took about 10 hours (you listed all of the elements). It still needs more work! Thanks for your support.

@JimD

I understand about that Heather bit, but perhaps if you rejected Heather, the “I am sleeping with her” option should be grayed out?

Charisma might helps with trading with Eugene, and also on asking Devlin tactfully instead of being a insensitive idiot xD

Intelligence/Charisma could come into play with trading with Eugene, may be a tiny, flat increase in value? Like a +5 right off the bat so you could trade less items.

(Where is the book? We should be capable of trading the book to Eugene : P)

Mindy *should* be hating you a little bit if you went back on your words and kill Eugene. At least so far, she is cold but not a inhuman monster.

If you helped Mindy in part 1, perhaps she might mention that a little wee bit for a equally tiny relationship increase?

=======================================
Part3Intro:
I still think agreeing with Mindy or Dave results in relationship changes, even though Dave dies.

And the bit about “Leading zombies out of the barn” should give a small increase in relationship, too, if you are describing them as incredulous at your idea.

Killing Dave =/= Humanity drop in a way. After all, you kill him for altruistic reasons, not out of ruthlessness.
If you want humanity drop for that scene, maybe it is better with three options.

Walk away - Humanity rise
Shoot him out of mercy - no change
Shoot him because he will threaten your survival - Humanity drop

@CremePudding all great suggestions. Thanks for the analysis.

Hm, cool. I actually thought it would have been interesting to get to do more with the bandits in chapter one, but I guess that would cause the game to diverge way too much. Would be interesting if the survivors of that group showed up later… but that’d also probably be too much trouble to code. Would be interesting if they showed up later as part of the other group if you hadn’t encountered them earlier, as it would make things feel a bit like there were consequences to your actions even if you chose not to do something.

The bandits will be back actually. The part with the bakery truck was their intro.

Oh yeah. I figured those bandits would show up again. I was talking about the ones in chapter one. Anyway, I eagerly anticipate the next section.

@Jim I read what you said about Emma asking about you and Heather being a device for the player to create and choose the type of reationship you and Heather are having.

So what gets me is that before Emma even asks you, at breakfast when you look at Heather, it’s said that:

“In the passing month, she’s spent most nights with you, and though you’ve shared a bed, she has taken it no further than a nightly kiss.”

So TECHNICALLY you guys are “sleeping together” but not having sex at all.

So you have the following answers when Emma asks: (I haven’t explored all the options yet)

  1. Nothing - Which like you said to Soverign above, if you pick this, then that means Nothings been happening between you two.

  2. What do you mean? - Forces Emma to ask you if you guys are sleeping and gives you a new set of anwers, see below.

  3. We just spend time together - you guys spend time, MAYBE sleep in the same bed, but no sex.

  4. She stays in my room at night. Nothing more. - You guys sleep together but no sex, like what the above narrated quote.

  5. We’re sleeping together - You guys are having sex?

So if you choose #2, Emma asks if your sleeping together, and you can say:

  1. Yes - You guys are having sex?

  2. No - No sex…unsure of anything else.

  3. None of your buisiness - You guys are ???

  4. In the same room. Nothing more. - Again like the previous #4, matches what the narrator described, sleep no sex.

So now, my problem is, this would all be fine if this was just a simple curious question and to see if you tell the truth or lie to your sister and not the important scene that defines your relationship with Heather.

  1. Because if you tell her it’s “None of your buisiness” then what is your relationship? Is it the same as if you said “Nothing”? Same with “we just spend time together” does this mean no sleeping or sex but just hanging out? If it does mean sleeping together(no sex) like the narrator says you guys do earlier, then doesn’t that makes the other option “She stays in my room at night. Nothing more.” Kinda pointless?

  2. If the narrator said “In the passing month, she’s spent most nights with you, and though you’ve shared a bed, she has taken it no further than a nightly kiss.” Before Emma even asks you, and you say you guys are sleeping together (which means sex) then doesn’t that contradict?

  3. Maybe I’m wrong that sleeping = sex, so if I am, then what’s the point of the many different answers,?

  4. If you choose the supply run with Javier, Emma will tell you about Javier instead of asking about you and Heather, won’t this make the player lose out on defining their relationship with Heather?

Sorry for this massive wall of text, but I wanted to explain my confusion without confusing you along the way.

The way I have been writing this so far is to provide certain updates then get feedback and revise. The interactions between Emma, Heather, and others have had the least attention of mine so far but I’ve included them somewhat as placeholders. So, the part you commented on is really not nearly done, and in its current form is probably more confusing than just leaving it out. The missions themselves have had my attention and I do realize the other parts pre-mission look a bit half-ass (for lack of a better term), so it may be best going forward if I slow down, work out those sections, then move on to the more ambitious parts.

Gotcha! Sorry I hope you didn’t feel obligated to explain your process, I wasn’t criticizing, just pointing out any errors that may or may not have gone unnoticed, but I appreciate your detailed reply!

I hope you don’t get rid of that part, I think it’s fine, but whatever is best for you Jim. Anyway, keep up the great work!!

@TheKid90 No, I’m happy for your comments. It put into perspective that I need to put out more complete sections. Thanks!

* POSSIBLE SPOILERS*
That girl you meet in the part before going to the forest in the first chapter: is she the little girl that you see flash by when you go to save Dave ?

And if at all possible, some time in the future can you add a save option? I hate to redo all the custom stats I have if I die, and I’d like to continue my game instead of having to restart for every new part… but there’s no rush on that. It’s still an incredible game~ I love how Devlin comes back in, but I have a bad feeling about the favor he might ask for in return…

@IyashiiOtaku

Yes, the little girl is the same.

I wish I could add a save option but as far as I know, it is not a feature of ChoiceScript yet, which is why I added a table of contents (which isn’t great but helps).

New Bug fixes and updates based on user feedback:

Part 3 Intro

  1. Changed text and added choices during the scene with Heather entering your room.
  2. Fixed text when meeting Candace and Mindy after arriving at the cathedral.
  3. Fixed text when Uncle Lou is climbing a ladder.
  4. Corrected typos when using molotov cocktails on zombies when defending the cathedral.
  5. Fixed an error in the depot section occuring when blocking the front door.
  6. Fixed text when breaking into the depot related to the overhead camera.

Part 3 Month 1

  1. Added a relationship check for Emma at the beginning when she brings your breakfast.
  2. Added a check which adds text if you allowed Heather to take all of her bags in the city escape scene.
  3. Increased your relationship with Candace if you choose to build a lab as a scientist.
  4. Increased the amount of water produced from a carpenter’s water filtration system.
  5. Reduced offensive rating from the choice “Improving the cathedral’s defenses in case of attack” and increased offensive rating from the choice “Training others in the use of weapons”.
  6. Based relationship changes off of charisma if you choose “Being a social support for others”.

So how much longer do you think it will take you to finish part 3?
