WW2 Armored Recon - Demo Testing

Anyone else have anything for the next update?

This might be the last chance to add a special scene, as was done for the medals recently, because a copy-editor could be involved soon.

Just to clarify if I’m getting the right scenes in the medals: I noticed that I always get the Distinguished Service Medal (Army)? If I turn over the plates to the British, I get the Military Cross and the Distinguished Service Medal; if to the French, I get the Croix de Guerre with silver-gilt palm and the Distinguished Service Medal; if to Eisenhower, I get the Distinguished Service Medal?

Also, in Casablanca, even if I steal the francs and jewelry, the scene where we sell this to Sgt. Ray doesn’t show up for me. How can I make this show up?

That is wonderfull to hear. I really hope for the best in your endeavors and great success. It was writers like you and Paul Wang who have inspired me to try and wrote my own interactive military fiction. I know what you mean about the things like the mafia who helped give the Allies information in Sicily to help with the invasion. I have never heard about the Bridge hung in the sky. That would make an interesting read. But I do know about the hard fighting, especially on the mainland of Italy. And of course the famous 1st Fallschirm-Panzer Division Hermann Göring. I really hope for your success. If it is not wrong of me say so.

@AllenGies apologies for coming so late. But the german spy dialogue loops. and in addition i would like opportunity to buy better rations when i have C tier rations.

Also i have to say that the night segment with the Hampshires is epic if you got proper stats and brought extra fuel and make smart choices. i have utterly screwed several german actions and then as single-tanked rearguard and even took two of theirs tanks after they taken town, Imho if you are adding anything, at certain points you should add either german POV or later have opportunity to hear it from captive, i mean the moments when you wreak utter havoc you shouldnt usually be able to do.

An interesting idea, to hear about the action around Tebourba via German radio chatter or from prisoners taken later.

Will have to think on where this would be appropriate for the player to tune in. Arditi wouldn’t mention such a spirited defense.

Perhaps there should be an achievement for taking out multiple tanks at Tebourba. ‘Ghost Tank’ or the like.

The lost Ghost of the Ghost division, or the Dessert Honey

By the way, repeated text if i picked fire all weapons on the running frenchies

@CaesarCzech - Do you recall where the German spy dialogue loops? Is it where you take his pistol from him?

@Edhunt - As for achievements, yes. There will be a number of them. Some of my current ideas.

Scourge of Choiugui Pass: Destroy at least 2 enemy tanks at Choiugui.

Ghost of Tebourba: Destroy a tan during night fighting at Tebourba.

The Rock of Kasserine: Reach the end of the day at Kasserine.

Tiger Hunter: Engage the Tiger tank.

Storm-Rider: Use the storm to bypass the Germans enroute to Kasserine.

Light-fingered: Steal something.

Leader: Have X leadership at checkpoint 5 or later.

Organizer: Have X Logistics at checkpoint 5 or later.

Regular Army: Have X Career at checkpoint 5 or later.

Tactical: Have X Doctrine at checkpoint 5 or later.

The Dice love no-one: Play dice twice.

My own way: Do not side with either Allies or the Germans.

Allied: Deliver the package to one of the Allies.

Devll’s Deal: Deliver the package to the Germans.

Farewell Michel: Get Michel to Spanish Morocco.

Plus a few for a player’s level of Sarcasm, Directness, and Verbosity.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Time for another update! Thanks to everyone who is helping me push this along. Things are nearly at a forma copy-edit stage and then Steam entries. Both will have a place for a critique.
WW2__Armored_Recon.html (7.8 MB)

Version v.806

Moved around some of the dialogue about stiff drinks in chapter 6. Definitely had a mis-direct in there. Thanks to Edhunt for that.

Looked into the invasion scrips issue in chapter 2. That and other trinkets should carry forward now.

Changed the Mark 5 to Mark 6’s. Tigers over Panthers in chapter 6. Agaim thanks to Edhunt.

Yelled at Chapter 7’s save point. It had bad code. Okay, it wasn’t bad but it was definitely in the wrong place.

C-rations should be able to be upgraded, not just k_rations. =)

Fixed an instance of spy dialogue duplication.

Added the fate of the Germans, Italians, and French in the Epilogue.

Fixed numerous little CoG related typos such as em-slashes and italics.

We are headed toward copy-editing and a Steam page!

Full Descriptions (Minus a shared 3rd paragraph and bullet points):

  1. You are the Commander of a U.S. Army tank. Come ashore in North Africa, maneuver through exotic locations, and fight Nazis. But they do shoot back and you will need every scrap of leadership, logistics, and doctrine just to survive.

-As if that weren’t enough, amid the battles there is subterfuge brewing. Spies and

shadowy groups weave a deadly conspiracy. So do desert sands for that matter. Scout,

skirmish, and scour the land. The enemy is doing the same.

  1. 1942, North Africa: an exotic land set alight by war. Take charge as a U.S. Army tank commander. Find, fix, and finish the enemy before they do the same to you and your crew. Trouble is, they’ve been at this for years. Good luck.

-Another war is also being fought, one of cloak and dagger where the shadowy figures and

factions vie for secrets amid the sands. The kind of fight where the firepower of a lone

tank in the right place could tip the balance.

  1. Crush Nazis the way nature intended, beneath the steely treads of a U.S. Army tank. But be warned, enemies abound amid North Africa; the Germans, the Italians, and the desert itself. There are plenty of ways to perish and the odds are always grim.

-And just when you have a handle on that war, you will have to maneuver through a

shadowy world of spies in pursuit of objectives hidden in the sands. Stay true, go rogue,

or forge your own fortune.

  1. Take the commander’s seat of an American tank. Plunge into the deserts of North Africa. Every decision counts as you battle Nazis, master logistics, and strive to keep your crew—and yourself—alive.

-Every gallon of gas matters. Every round might be irreplaceable as your travels take you

far from friendly lines and into a storm of secrets and maneuvers unknown to all but a

handful of combatants.

  1. Your tank. Your crew. Your war. Command an American tank in the North African campaign, outmaneuver the Nazis, and fight to survive in a world where steel and fire reign.

-And when the combat quiets down, there are other maneuvers to make. Spies and shadowy figures vie for secrets hidden amongst the sands. Secrets that could shift the course of the war.

  1. Maneuver across burning sands and face the fury of the frontlines while in command of a U.S. Army tank amid North Africa. Outthink, outfight, or outlast the enemy—but beware, they have orders to hunt you down.

-That’s because there is also another war raging. One whose shadows and secrets might

alter the course of the war. Navigate these desert vipers or they will poison your every

victory.

  1. Naxis must die! And you will command the tank to do it. Fight amid historic battles in North Africa. Deal with the desert, shortages of fuel and ammo, and a myriad of more problems just to keep yourself and your crew alive.

-And while you’re at it, engage in covert operations on which the course of the war might

shift. But be careful, the enemy has their own plans and you may not escape their grasp.

  1. Command a U.S. tank amid the blistering deserts of North Africa. Navigate an unforgiving land, maneuver against Nazi forces, and put your leadership to the test—because one mistake could be the last for you and your crew.

-But there is more to North Africa than combat. Spies and shadow forces vie for secrets

hidden amid the sands. A different kind of war is waged, one where cunning, daring, and

the firepower of a lone tank might make all the difference.

The Third Paragraph to be added to the end of each of the Full Descriptions:

What are the benefits to having better rations?

So along with that maybe what’s the other upgrade’s hard factors as well,

But there i must ask, in chapter 2 before you walk out, there is the option to “Consider other choices” It just blocks out the option is that supposed to be that way?

Your crew should gain a little XP at various intervals when they sit down to eat. Since that wasn’t obvious, I’ll make this more clear once the files come back from the copy editor.

Glad you noticed the need for this. Since I wrote it, the effects were obvious to me, and apparently only me.

Hmm. Yeah, it wasn’t supposed to work that way. It was supposed to allow you to talk to the others and then decided who to tag along with. Will make a note to revise this. Thanks.

Question for everyone. In my long-term notes, there was some feedback from people who named themselves the same as other characters in the story. Specifically that they wanted some responsiveness around this.

Such as, Character chooses to name themselves Owens, Nelson, or Mendoza when the crew names are exactly that. Should that be allowed? Should we make it a joke in the text?

If there is additional writing involving this, what player names should be mentioned, noted, or forbidden?

One hand, it’s extra work you have to implement in, on the other hand, every single time I’ve seen an author go out of their way to implement it, it’s always very, very funny.

Well, maybe just add a warning since Nelson and Owens is a common name, But if they still wanted to be named such then i’d say let em live in confusion.

(Ps: i mean you can imagine my confusion when in guns of infinity, i read a certain Lt-Col. Hunter KIA, i think it was his rank.)
