A minor update:

Bug fixes:

  1. You can now re-assign the tasks without most choices disappearing.
  2. Fixed some typos- let me know if you find more!

Minor content update/revamp:

  1. Released the aftermath of the first skirmish. Your war council awaits!
  2. You can now spend time with your companions after the first skirmish.

Let me know if your stat is wonky. I think I forgot to adjust for some stats, but couldn’t find where. If you think some numbers should increase/decrease but doesn’t, just reply here and I’ll fix them.

Last but not least, I am thinking of implementing a personality system, mainly to keep track of the style of the ruler so NPCs can react accordingly. What kind of ruler do you think your MC will be? I hope to collect some ideas and devise appropriate stat dimensions.

My Ruler is Kind, Fair, but not naive or a pushover. He’s high intellect and strategy. He watches and measures those around him. He doesn’t mind working with the Regent and waits to see if they can be effective together (maybe romance), or if he’ll betray him for that allure of the throne. But with someone he trusts, like Servius, he’s warm and honest and protective. He respects the religion, but doesn’t wholely trust them to not have selfish intentions.

Basically, like me, he’s a loyal friend but a petty enemy who won’t suffer or forgive betrayal.

Damn, this sounds like a very compelling MC. So I suppose I should make some kind/ruthless, fair/tyrant(?) scale? I wonder if I can code in such a way to track who you are kind/ruthless to, else I think a simple variable will turn wonky if the MC adopts different attitude towards different pople. But that’ll probably involve a lot of work… Something to think about, anyway!

Happy to hear your thoughts on the characters too, and thanks for the comment!

It would be nice to have some chapters AFTER the war. I think many books where war is one of the main plot points don’t allow much freedom for what happens afterward, when in reality it’s one of the main aspects of a war; if it’s a poorly negotiated peace agreement, it can be the reason for more war and instability.

And about the personality scale, I think that in this game, it would be better instead to create flags for important choices, and maybe an approval system for factions to make it easy to track it down. I am against creating scales for games where politics is one of the main aspects of gameplay. In my view, this oversimplifies something that has many nuances. However, I believe that an approval scale for factions would be good enough; characters would have the freedom to pursue their own objectives, but, for example, the nobles in general like you.

I’m not sure if this is a bug but when asked if we should be transparent with the people about what’s going on, I chose to tell them and successfully convinced the senators to support my decision but then I get the option to suppress the news which I thought was just in case the player change their mind ( again, I didn’t even try to suppress the news because I thought they deserve to know) and later when I chose how are our supression efforts going on option out of curiosity then I guess the cat out of the bag option after, Sev mention something about the people not being happy because the mc lied to them? It feels like a bug…

@Iukan Yep, I do agree that it will be interesting to explore the aftermath of wars. The issue is I feel like the ā€œafterā€ has a whole new arc that can make into a book itself, and presently I don’t think I have a plan for a series lol. But yeah, I’ll take this into consideration.

As for the personality, yes, that’s the issue I run into, because I don’t want to lose the nuance while wanting to have some sort of dynamic NPC response. Kind of like how disposition system worked in the Pillars of Eternity series, but probably that doesn’t fit well with cs script(?)

@Nounou_Kpop You are right! It’s a bug, and thanks for catching it. Should be fixed!

I am hooked! Space opera and rivalmancing are right up my alley.

Love the world and characters you are setting up and very curious about the outcomes you mentioned above (who lives/dies)…

I did run into an error message when I tried to attend the war council and sadly cannot proceed beyond: ā€œc2 line 313: increasing indent not allowed, expected 0 was 1ā€

Thank you! Glad you like my world and characters. And thank you for pointing out the bug! It should be fixed.

Eh, just don’t lock the personality after a point. Let it evolve with the players choices in the story. I think relationship with characters are a separate variable anyway.

Personality wise …Kind vs Ruthless, Cunning vs Naive, Ambitious vs Laid-back, Humble vs Proud, etc…

These are all very good suggestions!

Love the game so far! It’s been a while since we’ve had a sci Fi game with rich world building, characters, and unique setting like this one. I like the ROs too and hope we can romance the regnant soon. Keep up the good work!

@jhin Thanks for the encouragement!

@Pumpkaboo Glad you like the setting. It’s one I put a lot of work in, and I’m really happy that it manages to catch someone’s interest.

As for the Regent’s romance, there’ll be hints here and there soon, though caution is advised going down this path;)

I also got really strong 40k vibes from this (only a good thing - I want more 40k-like games). And Haskell feels a bit like Pasqal from Rogue Trader if he was romanceable (it’s a minor crime that he wasn’t, tbh).

In terms of feedback, I found the war-preparation section (where you increase your stats) dragged a bit because it’s a lot of clicking through with not much payback. It also felt a bit strange to have so many points to play with at that stage and I wasn’t sure where I should put them. I wonder if it might be more effective to have fewer days to prepare, fewer points to allocate, or something that scales the points or stats down. I think it could also be effective to see a bit more narrative at this point e.g. checking in with allies or enemies.

But I’ll be following this one with interest. Very cool beginning!

Thank you for your reply- and happy to meet another Pasqal enjoyer! I’ve always wanted an Admech RO, and it’s sad that there’s none so far (though I hear the upcoming Dark Heresy game will give us one. Hopefully.)

I’ve adjusted the stat a bit, and see if I can move some content forward in the next big update. Thanks for the feedback!
