It's been slightly over a week since I first posted this interest check, and I am pleased to announce that the first chapter is out! It captures the character creation as well as the backstory of the game, which will set the stage for the rest of the story to pan out.
The Gladiator: Road to the Colosseum
It is the year 49BC, a time of strife, politics and Roman dominance. As a child, these concepts may seem alien to you, but when you are torn out of your comfortable life, you will be forced to come of age and fight for your freedom. Will you rise to the occasion? Or will you fade into oblivion?
Do try out the first chapter of the game here:
Comments and suggestions, both good and bad are extremely welcomed. Thank you!
I'm working on my first ChoiceScript game and I would just like to pitch my idea to you guys to get some ideas. I have always been fascinated with roman culture/history and I was thinking of a game where you could be a gladiator in Ancient Rome. I understand that there are a couple threads out there that are similar but as far as I know most of them are WIP/abandoned (do let me know otherwise!)
One idea I'm keen to introduce is a random player generator (race, gender, background) that will play out as different intros/back stories (because we don't get to choose who we are in real life right?). But then some people like to customize and choose so I just want to know what you guys think!
Apart from that, I'm hoping to make it progressive with your usual stats (think strength, dexterity, intellect) as well as renown and charisma. This will affect the kind of match ups you can get, as well as the opponents you face. It will also affect the types of matches (solo, team, scenario-based)
While the focus is definitely on arena combat, I would like to balance it out with interesting characters that the player can choose to make friends/enemies with, which might have implications in the arena. Romance would be an option, but I will have to think about how to represent romance in a non-glorified/cheesy manner (hopefully haha)
Ultimately, the goal would be to climb up the ranks and win fame, fortune and hopefully, freedom. I would definitely like to play around with a Spartacus style uprising, but then I am afraid it would be too ambitious to include so many aspects so we shall see how it goes.
Looks like I've written quite a wall of text but do let me know if you guys will be interested to read something like this and just shoot if you have any suggestions or ideas! Thanks guys I really appreciate it
