Does anyone else think that Doctor Cullins is a really bad therapist? It’s actually concerning.
I would actually really love more in depth feedback on why you feel that way, as that certainly is not the intention. Along with anyone else who may feel that way! It’s the first time I’ve heard someone say that, so I’d like to cross my t’s and dot my i’s, as it were.

Well, it seems that the only person who actually feels better after their session is S. The doctor decides not to push C at the beginning but A can’t even finish his session. Overall, I feel like the team really does need the MC but I also feel like Dr. Cullins doesn’t exactly personalize his sessions, he talks to them based on what he knows about the case not the people. Honestly, this could be a tool to up the MC’s value to the team. Dr. Cullins does work for the government, however, even if he is the team’s therapist. It could be affecting the quality of his work that he is on assignment and is “just doing his job”. Anyway, I was actually really disappointed when the demo ended and was craving more. It’s such a wonderful plot and I can see how much effort you put into the characters’ backgrounds. I don’t think writers get enough credit, really, you have the ability to change/brighten someone’s day, don’t take that for granted! Thank you so much. I can’t wait to read more!

I don’t think that’s a fair assessment. They just went through something traumatic and most blame themselves for it. The government is pushing them to forgo their grief and go back to the field and it is entirely understandable they consider Dr. Cullins the enemy too since he is part of the gov in a sense. Besides it’s common for the patient not to open up with a therapist for a myriad of reasons, but it doesn’t mean they are a bad therapist; people can be stubborn as hell and maybe require a more informal setting to open up (see: MC and RO after the funeral).

First off, thank you for the kind words! It means a lot that you’re enjoying the game so far and I hope to continue to live up to that! Hopefully I can help clarify a few things here as well.
I will say, S. didn’t feel better at all after their session, although Cullen was able to break through at least some of the barriers and get them to tell him what happened… mostly.
This part is actually quite common for therapy sessions, especially for people who don’t want to be there or aren’t comfortable in them. They usually either shut down or just straight up walk out of the room. As a therapist, or any sort of councilor, the person you’re trying to help has to want and willingly participate in the process. It’s important to not make the person you’re talking to feel trapped or cornered, and sometimes that means that you have to let them walk out of the room or end the session early, or it could also mean letting them talk about something different.
However you are right. There are times in those sessions where he has cut to the chase and asked the questions that the Bureau requires him to ask. Like with Hawks, he could see they were beginning to shut down, but that doesn’t change the fact that he needed their professional opinion as the leader of the MCT about whether or not one of their agents was a danger to themselves or to others after the incident.
Granted, these are mandatory therapy sessions the team is attending, so the fact they haven’t been contacted by higher ups is due to, presumably, Dr. Cullen not reporting them walking out of the sessions early because he wants to give them time to come to terms with what happened.
In short, he’s on their side, but yes, he also has a job to do.

Will The Bureau include pictures in-game? If so, may I suggest if a picture of a map would be appropriate in this scene:
I quickly blink away the moment and refocus on the task at hand, drawing a dot at Oak Hill Cemetery. “This is where Angelica’s body was found.” I then take a moment, finding the place of my next point, which I eventually locate; 4th Street on Senate Square. “This…” I draw a line between the two of them, “Is where we can infer that Brandon White was kidnapped from. Or at the very least, met the unsubs somewhere along here.” I then look back at the case file for a brief moment. “Now this is just a theory based on current information… But…”
I draw my gaze up the map, towards Irving Street; where Angelica used to live. I draw a dot there, connecting the line from 4th Street to Irving. “If we assume that the second victim was taken from somewhere near her home, then…” I draw a line from Irving Street back to Oak Hill Cemetery. “We have a comfort zone that these guys have operated out of. That means, wherever they are operating from…” Continuing my demonstration, I draw a circle connecting all of the points together so it looks like the triangle that was made is inside of the circle. “…is most likely within this ten mile radius.”
I was curious about these areas, so I used Google Maps to see them; seeing these areas on a map helped me visualize the area which our suspects are operating in.

I love it! is there a guide? I’m investigating and I seem to be stuck, I don’t know what to do to go back to the livingroom, it’s not a game issue I just can’t seem to guess the words lol

Correct! To exit any text box investigation in the game, you just need to type the word ‘leave’. Glad you’re enjoying it thus far!

Okay, so I think I have the next update almost done. It seems like a short update compared to the other one, but I have to remember the other update was as lengthy as it was because of the text box investigation sequences and the possibility for people to miss certain clues, plus all of the different variations that came with.
The update probably isn’t going to be out tonight or anything, because I just remembered I do still have to add in the optional intro scenes on the train so that talking to more than one of the members of the team is fluid, but the update will, at the very least, be soon. I may add more to the coroner’s scene at a later date, but as of right now the scene stands at 17.2k words with about 6.2k added per playthrough. If someone goes to the trouble of finding every clue in the other scene, that would be about 3.5k less than the victim’s house scene added per playthrough.
So all in all, probably being a little harder on myself than I should be, but the tl;dr is, the next update is close at hand. This scene does not add a text box investigation sequence.

UPDATE 9/2/2023 IS OUT!
Well everyone, you asked for it and now it’s here! I present the next update with the Coroner’s office, where you deduce, from the latest victim, quite a bit about the case. There have also been some add-on’s which I will outline down below. I apologize the update took so long, but it was a mix of irl stuff and the fact that adding some of this stuff is a lot of editing, adding variations of dialogue, etc. I had to figure out the best way to make what you all wanted happen, and I’m happy to say I think I finally did that.
That being said, please inform me of any inconsistencies or errors as per usual. I appreciate all the feedback, and for seemingly the first time since the start of the book, starting next chapter, the MCT is going to converge to continue the investigation as a single unit rather than separate teams! Thank you all again so much for your patience, and I hope you enjoy.
- Added the Coroner’s Office scene
- Changed the Train Ride scene in Chapter 2 so you now talk to two of the MCT agents instead of just one.
- Made the option for what you were studying before joining the Bureau more obvious in Chapter 1. (Future plans for this are to have more optional dialogue choices and flavor text based on it, as is the case with the Coroner scene.)
