(WIP) Path of Martial Arts: The Beginning (Dark, Eastern Fantasy | 805k words)

Because playing as Yamcha and WINNING feels so good.

Has Yamcha won against Vegeta?

let’s also remember that it’s still in WIP, imagine having to replay it every time in trash mode? In addition, Overlord mode is what allows you to see the most scenes in a single run.

used to play mortal every time but thew new stat system is STILL fucking with me. cant be as effective as I was with the old percentage based system. still trying to crack that nut.

depends on peoples vision of what a power fantasy entails. For some people being evil and doing whatever they want in games is their power fantasy but for others its being good and able to save everyone.

In the context of this game some people will go with overlord for the op power trip while others will want to go trash(or any of the harder difficulties) because the feeling of being the underdog and still coming out on top is their flavor of power fantasy. Like how people enjoy doing wacky challenges in games like dark souls(level 1, naked runs etc).

the good strategy is dumping one physical stat (agi or con) and one mental stat (int or chr) and leaving it on zero.
It doesn’t make sense character wise, but it works wonders if you planning on making a specific build, and mortal requires that sort of thing.

What stats do you usually leave on 0?
I leave intelligence and vitality when I play in mortal difficulty.

I’m glad overlord level gives us a shitload of experience points again. I also can’t wait to see what happens next, given that those two stones are now combining.

There’s an Earth difficulty? God damn, I haven’t restarted in a long arse time.

But doesn’t intelligence help with ex? Wouldn’t u want that one higher? I keep my vital high to cause I usually go for regeneration.

You could go for max intelligence but there simply isn’t enough time to max everything out before mid houtian so I go for the stats that are more useful in events and fights.
In my opinion vitality doesn’t seem that useful u know, like if you can simply avoid getting poisoned by making good choices and max the other physical stats to not take much damage in fights , then u don’t really need regen.

I believe, right now, maxing AGI/VIT/INT is the most optimal way.
AGI instead of STR, since I think there are a lot more ‘mandatory’ agi-checks than strength-ones;
VIT is absolutely, well, vital since it increases Health (10+VIT = HP) and allows you to ‘tank’ most of the encounters/fights (there are some that kill you regardless, but they are rare).
And INT is very good for mortal playthrough since it increases exp gain, though I nerfed it a bit and it’s not as crucial.

Then again, you can play around with the traits to further optimize the build. For example, Battle Sense/Bracelet Artifact allow you to essentially pass most of the AGI checks, so you could focus on STR instead.

I use pristine body instead of max intel …I haven’t done the math though…Does it give enough extra exp to replace it? Cause I think you get atleast 2 extra training sessions when using pills by avoiding medic visits.

Every training session is random 50 to 100 EXP + your INT score as guaranteed EXP. So, with 20 INT, you’d be having +20 EXP every training session.

Now, INT is added before any multiplications take place. So, if you use drugs/higher training zones, INT bonus will scale as well.
For example, fourth training zone + basic drug will yield (avg75+20)x3x1.5 ~ 427 EXP with maxed INT and around 337 (75x3x1.5) EXP with 0 INT.

Pretty sure you can take Pristine Body + max out INT though, that’s the most optimal way for training. Well, apart from the Blessed trait that maxes out EXP gain from training every time.

Blessed trait can be replicated by save scum.
Agreed that max intel + pristine is optimal but alone which one of them would give more exp assuming max exp roll everytime and using pills?

Haven’t done the math on that either, but lets take an approximate guess:
Realistically, you need to ‘cleanse’ impurities every 7 sessions (before they reach 80 and become irreversible). Of course, you can’t spend your newfound EXP until you do so (too big of a debuff).

On the first training zone, difference with 0 INT vs 20 INT would be 30 EXP every session (150EXP vs 180EXP) with the drug. For 7 sessions, that totals to 210 EXP - which is more than twice the max amount you can get from the session you’ll miss to cleanse impurities.

If you use zones higher than the first one, the difference will become only bigger. So, max INT is much better in terms of pure exp gain.

There are other factors to consider, however.

  • Cleansing Impurities is expensive, and the higher the %, the more expensive it becomes. To cleanse 70%, you’ll need… 490 Contribution Points, if my math is right. Which is basically impossible, unless yo accept the He Clan’s offer or farm points in the forest (but then you won’t be able to train…)
  • You can’t use EXP to increase any attributes while you have impurities (well, you can, but it’s a 70% debuff at 70% impurities, so…)
  • You need to commit a lot of EXP to get INT to 20. It’s worth it in the long run, but reaching 10 (or even 20, which results in -2 to all damage taken) in CON might be more profitable in the beginning.

Hmm…It is complex …which is good. It’s more fun to figure things out then.

Btw I noticed that you go up entire lvls while drinking wish fulfilling tea at overlord. Is that due to max intel or is it only for that mode?

Overlord things. That tea factors in difficulty mod (which is 100 for overlord), so +20 exp becomes +2,000 lol.

Question. Since Ruo had quite a shining moment in front of our MC, can we expect to have our own shining moment soon, or do you plan to tease us for quite awhile yet?

Next patreon update will feature a very significant powerup for the mc. As for showing off in front of Ruo, well… that will have to wait a bit haha.
