MC does have friends. Heck, even on family side, his aunt loved him greatly and so did his grandfather. His dad is also not boiling with hatred against him. That’s like 75% of his living family

Gotcha, thanks
Just finished the game, thank you for the experience.
One critique that stood out to me though is how terrible it feels to play an evil character. Almost every evil choice mostly ends up in the player being “put in their place”. I get that this is some sort of karmic just desserts, but almost none of the evil choices end up being beneficial. Most of them are just there to be a jerk.
In my opinion, playing an evil character in rpgs should make the character stronger at the cost of, for example, pushing allies away. This is done in order to tempt the player and test whether they’ll stick to their morals. One good example of this is at the start, when one of the disciples is making raunchy fiction about the player character. The player has the option of robbing the author at the cost of being an awful person.
One of the most insulting scenes is at the end where two drunkards block your way and slapping (which is ironic since this scene is a slap to the player’s face) them ends up in killing them. This results in losing 2000 in all stats and all gold as well as everyone mocking the player, even though the authorities had everything recorded and such blatant disrespect wouldn’t go anywhere else. This happens around the end of the demo, so not like it matters and I’m secretly hoping that this is a joke scene that will be removed when more content is added. But this also sums up the evil playthrough experience.
If I recall correctly, this scene happens because you’re being set up by Mei Mei, who gets He Changpu to conveniently punish you for disturbing the peace of the sect by slapping those drunkards.
Similarly, if you romance Mei Mei, at this part of the game you won’t face those drunkards, but instead have a meeting with her and He Changpu to prepare you for the tourney
That makes some sense then I suppose, but it’s still weird that the only option to get out of that situation is by being the most patient man on the planet.
That’s the joy of gaining the ire of the author’s pet. /s
