(WIP) Path of Martial Arts: The Beginning (Dark, Eastern Fantasy | 590k words)

That makes some sense then I suppose, but it’s still weird that the only option to get out of that situation is by being the most patient man on the planet.

That’s the joy of gaining the ire of the author’s pet. /s

There are many, many evil choices in PoMA that are more benefical than the alternative virtuous choice. PoMA punishes you for earning the ire of powerful people, not for being evil in general. Sometimes, as in the Mei case, you might not know which powerful person you pissed off.

Some notable examples of solid demonic choices include: just about every case of possible extortion, kicking out the little demon queen, killing the havoc disciples, slaughtering Posong, betraying Yuanda, killing the rebels, most instances of cooperating with Mei, etc.

It’s a good rule, no matter what your alignment is, to not piss of people who could kill you with one punch

Not saying this to insult you. I can see why you misunderstood the situation.

But I love the idea of your evil MC being so dumb/oblivious he genuinely thought some suicidal dudes mocked him and he was punished for seemingly no reason. (While going ‘Woe is me’)

You should see Yang Bohai’s reaction to this

Every case of extortion is self-explanatory so I agree om that.
Does kicking the little demon queen do anything? Wouldn’t you still be required to fight her? And fighting her gives xp so I wouldn’t consider that harmful.
I get the havoc sect disciples, but I ended up doing fine without the tribe people.
Killing the rebels? You mean Gray Raven? Cause I always recruited them.
I have no idea who Posong is, unless I’m misremembering something.
I may have killed the demon queen’s son so the Yuanda quest turned out a bit different, don’t know if that was considered beneficial.
And I stayed away from Mei since she poisoned me (which I thought at the time was Han Fao at the time, which was a somewhat clever misdirection) so I wanted revenge.
So far it seems the best option is just keeping your head low, which makes sense but is also a bit lame.

I don’t take offence, it’s good to know that it was a setup since it felt unfair (which it was). But it’s still feels silly how limited it was to handle that situation, you’re telling me I can’t get around two drunks with 7000 agility? That an innocuous, yet firm option such as a slap ends in a what might as well be game over? Kind of hoped the old monkey would step in for me, but he straight up didn’t care.
Also if anything Yang Bohai should be proud, after all I copied his slapping technique.
It might also just be recency bias on my part, since that scene was one of the last in the demo. Although I still stand by what I said about the evil choices being somewhat lacking when it comes to rewards.

Kind of rough when most people can

Thats poma for you, niki had been hitting me with curved balls since i started playing lol, i agree that sometimes the choices feel limited or linear but disagree with morality affecting rewards, most of the time you can reap rewards or optimal choices regardless (with some exceptions like asura that is reserved for evil mcs or turn you into one) from my experience alignment only affects relationship and master choices.

Are you supposed to ascend and beat Prince Ruo in your first tournament, or is it because I’m playing on earth difficulty? It just feels a little silly winning right at the start, but if that’s what’s supposed to happen I’ll go with it

If you play mortal difficulty it is still possible just a little bit harder. So if you make your build correctly or get lucky enough then winning the first tourney is completely possible if not kinda easy
