WIP - Parasitical(sci-fi/vague cosmic horror, update July 22 2025 | 278k words)

I just replayed the demo for the first time in a while, and it’s so good! I can’t wait to see where the story goes (as well as romance…nobody can convince me Icarus isn’t the best)

Just to make you aware, Dashingdon hosting will be closing soon so I would recommend moving this to cogdemos or uploading a compiled html file:

Oh, thanks for informing me! Parasitical is up on COGdemos but I think I’ve been forgetting to add the link to the forums

I’m very pleased to announce that Chapter Five will be releasing in four days, on Sunday, July 6th, at (roughly!) 11:00 AM CT.

I want to save information about details and features until the release post, both for suspense’s sake and because I am, predictably, still changing many little things around(I’ve wanted to make this post for about a week now, but kept telling myself I had to finish ‘this one more thing’ before I could announce it).

I will say, however, that this is both the longest chapter yet, and my favorite, and I am so excited to share it with all of you! Keep your eyes peeled <33

I’m very excited for the update! You’ve written one of the most interesting and intriguing settings I’ve come across in IF. Can’t wait to explore it further.

DEMO | TUMBLR

Parasitical Chapter Five is OUT! This update contains almost exactly 100k words of new content! This brings the wordcount without code to 260k and the wordcount with to 278k, and the average playthrough length to 71k.

For those of you who’d rather jump in without spoilers, the features are under the dropdown, but otherwise…

Featuring...
  • Experience he journey leading up to the Old Colony—a long, long hike through much, much meat
  • Bother, flirt with, or quietly evaluate your companions!
  • Scary stories, scarier dreams
  • Discover what sort of creatures you share His Grace’s body with
  • Share a few tender(romantic or platonic!) moments with someone special… or not

There are also, as always, a few ‘meta’/technical improvements.

  • Both Ami and Cato have actual relationship bars now
  • Added the option for custom pronouns, changeable at any time from the stats page
  • The always-glorious typo and bug fixes
  • Fiddled around with some of the images(as seen in this post. can you tell graphic design is my passion)

I so much hope that you all enjoy <33

@EnaMeena im super into this IF. But i feel like I’m not getting enough point opportunities for “quiet” stat compared to a lot of outspoken ones that also kind of feel a bit unfair that i can’t be quiet and have an opportunity to not miss out on conversations…quiet doesn’t mean introverted, right? Regardless this is just commentary, u do u i respect ur art :innocent: its a great game

Thanks for the feedback - I might’ve gone a little overboard with the balancing this chapter, as before this update, I was feeling like there weren’t many chances to increase your ‘outgoing’ stat compared to quiet. Thank you though, I’ll definitely keep this in mind for the next update!

Just released a small set of RO POVs for reaching 1500 followers on Tumblr! The interlude can be accessed through the existing demo - just choose to skip to it in the beginning. The interlude as a whole is roughly 7200 words long, and each individual POV is roughly 1400. Under the dropdown, I have a few mandatory disclaimers/more information!

Words

These in particular are a bit different from the preceding ones - for one, they contain a whole lot of character lore, enough that I was somewhat hesitant about posting them. If you’re one who cares about finding things out slower, quote-on-quote organically, then maybe sit these out. On the other hand, if you love to analyze things and are champing at the bit for a tad more info, these may be just for you!

Unlike the former two interludes, I’m also probably not including this one in the official demo. The biggest reason for this is that I feel like these may toe the line of immersion-breaking, if you just happen to come across this chapter in normal gameplay, as well as aforementioned spoilers. Of course, it’ll always be available, you just won’t find it when reading through the story normally. If you have different feelings about this, feel free to shoot me an ask! Or, like, if you have Thoughts about the interlude in general.

Along the line of immersion-breaking, I also added a toggle in the game to turn 3rd-person POVs off entirely, if you so wish. For those who love their Exalted’s brain, and that brain alone.

There also comes a smattering of typo and bug fixes. Many thanks and kisses to everyone who’s been sending those in! Always so appreciated.

As per usual, I very much hope you enjoy. Thank you again for getting me so far (1500!! and i remember when i was ecstatic over 10), and supporting this story <33

yknow for most of the game were just getting jerked around here and there with no agency whatsoever. order, meeting, crew, sea wherever whenever. and whener we go to the next part everything in the last part just goes poof. “congrats you’ve been kidnapped and indoctrinated the order. tal? ahhh youll forget em in no time” “guess you kinda joined up as jaspers new crew. el? who’s that?” “back to order business? its like jasper never arrived”

kinda feels like were some random background npc that occasionally spouts a few lines of dialogue while jasper is the main protag actually navigating the plot and forming bonds that last longer than half a chapter. they seem to know and care about these folks who are random strangers to them better than mc whos supposedly lived with them for years. and august is the stoic deuteragonist with a personality of cardboard who acts as the guy our satellite mc orbits just to exist during order stuff when jaspers not around

on the plus side jasper’s great. a real riot. wish we were playing as them instead. tal is great too but considering how rarely they appear after the prologue they may as well not exist at all. a shame since theyre another fine candidate for a real protagonist with some agency beyond the occasional dialogue choice

sorry if this cane off as a bit harsh, its just i was expecting a more balanced and interconnected vibe from the premise and old demo way back and was really put off by the haphazard juggling of characters beside jasper and august while tal is just left abandoned in a corner despite being the first mjor character you interact with

No, I appreciate hearing your thoughts! Trying to make the MC stand out is definitely something that I’ve been attempting to wrestle with for a while, and it’s good to know that it’s still something I should work on. I will definitely be keeping this in mind. Glad to hear that you’re a Jasper fan!

There is a small bug in chapter 5 where even though I told everyone I went to fetch icarus later on we still go “now it’s the moment of truth, time to tell everyone you brought icarus”

Additionally even though I chose to not wear the robes, Jasper still “looks at the expanse of your robes” afterwards

Thanks so much for reporting those! I do have an official bug report form, for the future, but I appreciate all reports regardless.

Read through the current demo and I absolutely love the concept. Creepy, concerning, and with still many unanswered questions I am eager to find out the truth to! I feel bad for August, suspicious of Icarus, and Jasper is a lot of fun!

My only gripe is the lack of interaction with our dear friend T so far, I’m hoping we get to see more of them soon! Also I’m curious to see how the news about the truth of the situation the colony is in will be received; it’s sure to shake things up to say the least!

Hi! I sent a bug report, but I thought I’d post it here too. I hope you don’t mind.

At the end of Chapter 4, when we can choose who I want to spend time with, I chose El, but my character still goes to Jasper's room. I can go to August and Icarus, but not El.
