this too is the plot of mulholland drive
I don’t know if this has been mentioned before but it looks like the last chapter’s s.c.u.m. fight doesn’t properly track juice. My character drank their juice earlier that day, before the coffee house scene, was at 100% before the s.c.u.m. fight started and yet the game kept telling me how ‘nearly out of fuel’ they were, greying out relevant choices…
Hiiii if you got screenshots of it please share thank u
The coffee house thing is actually on a separate day, but I’ll need to review the code, as you’re right in that the running on fumes scenario shouldn’t kick in if you voluntarily topped up at the most recent opportunity for it.
Playable Sidestory: An Incident, Giftwrapped
Hi everyone! I’m happy to share a DYVJ sidestory. It’s a bit more elaborate than usual; this is a playable choicescript game!
Step into the shoes of Giftwrap of the Glory Hounds during the events that will come to be known as the Zone Incident and experience the disaster as it unfolds.
The story/game is roughly 23k words in total and you’ll see most of that in a single playthrough. The narrative is mostly linear, but there’s a little branching here and there. Naturally, the character is set, with a handful of small personality nudges.
Really excited to share this with you folks, and to hear your thoughts!
Here it is!
Sounds interesting! I have to ask though, will the things revealed in the short story be things that we are supposed to learn/will potentially be revealed in the main game?
Hard to answer in practice, but you don’t need to play this to understand what’s going on in the main game. Add a better contest to main story plot of like necessary for full understanding you know.
The most critical part of stuff you will learn anyway, or largely have already learned.
It’s been like one year since it’s been in the writing so YMMV
Well that was the sort of happy, upbeat story I’ve come to expect from this world. Poor Surpass ![]()
Also, was giftwrap’s shoulder ribbons a parallel to Dime’s tentacles or am I over thinking things?
Also also, this is why I love code diving
*bug

reading comprehension quiz if ur bored:
using an extract from the text, share one similarity between Giftwrap and Dime. describe why do you think the author chose to make them similar in such a way
using an extract from the text, share one similarity between Giftwrap/Surpass and Dime/Beth. why do you think they are alike, and what do you think the former’s relationship may inform you about the latter’s.
with the fate of giftwrap in mind, speculate about how it might tie dime’s potential ending in the next chapter
not overthinking it ![]()
So by the sounds of things I was underthinking things.
I’ll have to play closer attention on my next playthough of the demo in that case. Right now all I got is wondering if Surpass being willing to put a hole in Dime’s chest had something to do with being back in The Zone…
Do we hear the name of Asset 1 before Giftwrapped sidestory? It sounds familiar to me but I was waiting for a chapter or two before a replay.
Yes ![]()
One of the possible finds in the Zone. Then a certain dream.
Summary
The man bends over, hands on his knees, sucking wind. "This is nuts!" he eventually manages, slowly. "How did Miguel even get out?"
Vasanti screws up her face, and then furiously whips around. "I don't know, Luke! Maybe Heung or
Maya or one of you other morons who can't get it through your heads that Miguel isn't your friend left his cell unlocked again!"
"H-hey!" Luke protests. "That only happened once! And Miggy is a good—"
"Stop talking. Stop talking, or I'm going to bash in your skull," Vasanti flatly threatens. Luke shuts his mouth with a click. "Great. Now come help me with this" — she swings her crowbar with a resounding clang — "Fucking. Door!"
Your gaze drifts to your left. A wall of metal extends fifteen feet tall. The outside of the compound.
It's almost reassuring. You aren't kidnapped or sleepwalking. It's just another dream. Another variation of the nightmares, your dutiful companions of a half decade. Who will you see die again? Whose accusation awaits in the dark?
"Miggy! Miggy!"
Your expectations shatter to splinters around you.
No nightmare's recounting of tonight has ever included the voices of children.
Typo when meeting with CG at the library after choosing that you can’t trust her
there’s no space between the word “in” and her name. this may be specific to referring to her as “control” specifically. great wip btw.
The body horror elements and the sheer psychological weight of dealing with those side effects give this project such a unique flavor compared to standard superhero interactive fiction. Balancing the criminal underworld web with managing your cover identity keeps the tension razor-sharp across every chapter. It’ll be fascinating to see how the character dynamics and the fallout from the benefactor’s control evolve as the word count climbs even higher.
Wow; villains in Alderbrook have so many rights
DYVJ worldview: recalibrating…
Bug:
If I hold out for Fracture to arrive during the Ch11 Rocket fight, he later gets an introduction and re-enters a room he’s already in as part of the Rocket-busting team.
Overdosed-Juice route:
hey, a pragmatic option! (Was that… for me??)
Hot damn, you did a good job with this.
…also thank you for implementing the ability for the MC to laugh; I confess I spent nearly the whole time doing so behind the screen. (‘Stressful’ situations are often rather mundane or outright amusing to me; to the great confusion of others.
) Of course, that means smartarse comments were occurring to me at every turn, and now I have the urge to make them in-character. (Why am I like this)
Thanks for the heads up!
Thank you ![]()
I’ll try hunt that bug down! I’m not surprised that slipped through somewhere with how it’s coded.
Pragmatic, well, just thought it’d be a reasonable place for Dime’s to head to be at there
(along with the opportunity to just release tension with laughing as opposed to being sad/upset the whole time)
Nice; good instincts!
Hi friends! Since it’s been out a long time and as a thank you for everyone’s support, I’m making the Beth POV (‘The Past Five Years’) available to all. You can read (or reread!) it below.

The first part of the next chapter is coming along pretty well! The plot scene is finished (save one particularly interesting branch) and the Kay hangout is done except the romantic part; I’ve basically got to wrap my head around how I’m handling romantic conflict where Dime is interested in multiple Altruists (and making sure it’s future-proofed). I’m aiming to have it done in October.
