I ended up finishing it last night and loved it omg!! I adore what you have so far. Idk how to really explain it, but the characters, including MC seem so brought to life and the choices simply felt, worth it? It’s refreshing.

Lately a lot of the last few IFs I’ve read, seem to be lacking in the Flavor dialogue and meaningful choices. So, I appreciate that your characters seem to actually respond to the things MC does or says- It’s not JUST a choice we click and the plot just moves; leaving you feeling unfilled after getting no acknowledgment on the actions that had taken place. I especially loved the past relationship option, it makes it feel more fleshed out and real.

I chose Shaunta. She made the most since for my reserved MC, Love her She’s was so freaking sweet :smiling_face_with_tear:

Okay, loved the demo and the story so far—also it’s a really interesting power that our MC possesses and I’d love to see more in the future.

I have a few suggestions if you’d like to hear them. Firstly, maybe give us the option to change our hairstyle from before the “accident” and in the present. Like maybe the MC had shorter hair, but they let it grow because they no longer care or bother about it, or they cut their previously long hair short cause it reminds them of the past/as symbolism of turning into a different person(villian).

Also, gimme symbiote wings. With jagged claws/gaping maws on them—cause you know what’s more terrifying than a toothy eldritch monstrosity? A freaking flying eldritch monstrosity.

@izzily Can you put an image as a comparison for how the “wild mutation” power looks like. I know that it probably a Venom type playstyle but the description kinda confuses me when I try to imagine it so Idk if my MC resembles Venom but with some extra bits or something completely different.

I have absolutely fallen in love with this WIP!! Definitely being added to my bookmarks!

I’m currently climbing up the walls for Grant. I nearly collapsed when I saw that he wasn’t on the RO list. Guess I gotta dream about him for the rest of my life :pensive:

You didn’t close the brackets on text here.

Ah whoops - I hadn’t actually pushed the fix last night! (I hear updating the files might break saves?)

No idea how that second one has popped up, but it reminded me that’s supposed to be an *if anyway!

Thank you so much!

I’m probably going to make some kind of a blog. Ideally one would have been good to go for launch but I had to prioritise the writing to get it ready on time.

The brokenheart (yes that’s the name of the variable) stuff was super fun to write. The section where it’s opted into is probably the most complicated piece of coding I’ve done so far and it was very satisfying to set up. I’d like to reflect that MC still has some baggage regardless, but we’ll see how complicated it gets.

Like I mentioned earlier, I’m wary of scope creep, so I’ll need to see how the overall shape of things develops. However, if there’s another RO, a hero is top of the list.

Every so often the little gremlin in my head remembers it adores visceral body horror and then passages like the power descriptions happen.

Thanks! Fixed.

Ahh thanks so much! It was a lot of work to try and keep stuff reactive, especially when juggling the flashback four. There’s always a worry that choices might feel meaningless.

Shauna’s a sweetheart and I feel bad for being mean to her.

I’ve been thinking about this! I intend on including some future content around MC’s ‘look’, but I may explore putting in an earlier option about a different hairstyle.

Wings are an interesting thought!

I’m not great at doing 1:1 image comparisons, but in general, the mutations themselves are made up of the same dark material as the membrane, so there’s definitely a symbiote style goopiness to the look.

But if this means anything, when describing the big arm, a lot of me was thinking ‘cleric beast without the fur’.

Thank you!

Grant’s a delightful little shit and I’m glad you liked him!

Gosh darn it. Thank you

I still kinda prefer the whole Monster Symbiote type of look like Venom and Carnage and having a overly sized arm kinda puts it off for me but you do you. Do we at least have fangs that we can bite with our own mouth? Cause I don’t remember if we do.

@izzily And I’m guessing the armored carapace style looks somewhat like one of these?

I was expecting the “wild mutation” to look like these.

World's Finest ! — VENOM | MARVEL'S SPIDER-MAN 2 (2023)

And these would have been a badass option to have in regards to appearance.

Also, with the “nodes” that you can summon at the beginning, is it possible to shape their forms into something different, like Hounds (yes, I know it’s ironic because of the Glory Hounds in-game) or similar monstrous animals?

Which Combat Styles and Specialties synergies well?

Think the wild mutations is a lot more body horror than you’re reading it as. It’s why I said earlier “a Resident Evil boss” and not just an angy Venom, it just happens to be black symbiote instead of pure roiling flesh. Like a dozen eyes split open across the body, including one big weak point eye on our now “muzzle-like” head (a head that explicitly doesn’t have a mouth, only our one tendril and our torso have mouths in that transformation [expecting it to vary], both with explicit boney teeth). Specifically I think of like a late form William Birkin in that first transformation.

Oh yeah totally, the whole ‘eyes popping, and teeth growling’ is So resident Evil!

Ugrh been a while but William birkin…that was the doctor no? in RE2 I think?

Yeah doctor guy in 2. Very asymmetrical, big eye on shoulder, mouths in places they shouldn’t be, extra shoulder arms at some point, but still standing on a clearly human form (at least until the end) so I think it’s a very apt comparison.

I love this so much, it’s amazingly fantastic. The characters are awesome, our powers sound insane but cool (Hello Symbiote  ) and wow, you can’t stop there, I want to know about this awful brother of ours (to hit and bite his head off for hitting the shite out of me…:triumph:)
