[WIP] Blue Dominion [70k Demo] [420k Full Text] Book One

Thread Title: [WIP] Blue Dominion - A Dystopian/Thriller [420k]

Official Alpha Demo [Version 1.12.4]: CoGDemos [70k]

In New Haven, time isn’t merely counted—it’s commanded. The clock embedded in your wrist isn’t just a tool; it is your master, dictating every breath, every step. When the digits reach zero, you are meant to crumple, lifeless, like a puppet whose strings have been cut clean. A peaceful end, the Dominion promises. A gentle release.

But in the smog-choked shadows of the Grit, the city’s underbelly, whispers tell a different story. They speak of those who defy the clock, whose timers expire while their hearts, impossibly, continue to beat. The Dominion calls it a myth. A delusion. But in a world where every second is currency and hope is the most dangerous gamble of all, you are about to discover the truth for yourself.

Blue Dominion is a 425,000-word dystopian interactive novel set over a century after the Dominion, a parasitic, cellular organism from a distant realm, first arrived on Earth. It infected the planet, overtook its hosts, and molded a new form of life in place of humanity. As you fight for every precious minute, you will be forced to uncover the dark secrets behind the Dominion’s control, the nature of your timer, and the fate of those who run out of time. The question is this: Will you claw your way to the top of the system, or will you burn it all down for a chance at something more than just borrowed time?

  • Play as a character of your own design, customizing your name, appearance, and the clothes you wear to navigate the different strata of society.

  • Forge your own path by choosing to work with or against the primary factions: the corporate and calculating Merchant’s Guild, the ruthless Under-Market thieves, the enigmatic Whisper Market, or the deadly assassins of the Veiled Hand.

  • Master a deep and varied skill system. Will you be a powerhouse of Strength, a nimble ghost of Agility, a brilliant tactician of Intelligence, or a silver-tongued manipulator of Charisma?

  • Uncover the dark truths behind the Dominion’s control, the nature of your timer, and the fate of those who run out of time.

  • Engage in high-stakes back-alley brawls, strategic cage fights, or tense negotiations where a wrong word can be more fatal than a blade.

  • Build relationships with a cast of complex characters —from a desperate orphan girl to a cynical fight coach—where your actions determine if they become your most trusted allies or your bitterest enemies.

  • Forge your own identity, literally, by acquiring false documents, creating new aliases, or even attempting to erase your file from the system entirely.

  • Decide your own morality in a world that has none. Will you be a beacon of honor in the darkness, or will you embrace the cruelty of the Grit to ensure your own survival?

A note from the author…

Please be aware that this is an early alpha demo. As such, some features are still under development. You may notice that the stat checks and attribute point system need further balancing to ensure all character builds are viable and rewarding. Additionally, the main market hub is a work in progress; some mission options may currently disappear from the list prematurely. I am actively working on refining these systems, and any feedback you have on them is greatly appreciated!

Hi, is PC a woman? It might be a good idea to mention that somewhere immediately visible (I think there’s a genderlocked-female tag, or just a small mention where you describe what’s customizable).

Hi Jay,

At the moment, the main character is gender locked, however I am creating another pathway for a male playthrough. (The storyline will mimic each other).

The synopsis itself looks very impressive

Hi Baka,

Thank you! Again, the end of the demo (with the 7 alternating pathways) is a work in progress. There are several reasons why options disappear but the main difficulty is aligning the variables in the right order as sub-pathways branch out in various ways.

Max

Note from the Author:

Looking ahead, I plan to implement a feature that allows players to view the exact variable requirements behind stat checks. In the first half of the demo, I’ve intentionally removed visible stat labels from choices to encourage a more immersive experience. However, in the main hub (particularly during guild missions), I’ve chosen to leave those labels active in the code to support readability and improve retention.

Damn, a 70K first release demo? That’s pretty big.

Hi Dragomer,

The 70,000 word demo encompasses 25,000 words of customization while the rest contains various missions and city events (there are 6 main paths under the market hub). I hope to release the full demo with 120k words in a few months.

That’s still a pretty big release.

I’m really liking the combat system BTW. What exactly triggers the SPECIAL moves?

I don’t have much to say other than that I really liked the demo

I have a background in Python so adapting to choicescript hasn’t been too difficult. There are some hidden paths in the demo (related to guild missions). The combat system is actually quite extensive. I have added weighted dice to calculate odds of each attack with bonuses based on your current combat stats. Special moves are randomly generated according to your highest combat stat (e.g Agility, Strenght, ect.) Again, I am immensely thankful for your support!

Hi William,

Thank you for the kind words. I will do my best to update the demo, however my current plan is to modify the base text to fit choicescript code.

Hi Patrick

It truly means a lot to me—thank you for being here. I’ll keep you posted on whether or not I move forward with the publishing process. Right now, Blue Dominion is still in its alpha stage, but in the coming months, I’ll be actively looking for beta testers to help refine gameplay, balance stats, and catch bugs.

I’m also in the process of modifying the combat system to allow for more dynamic interactions using both ranged and close-combat items. The goal is to create a system that rewards different playstyles and decision-making in high-stakes encounters.

Stay tuned—there’s a lot more on the way, and I’m excited to have you along for the journey.

Best,
Max

Hello. I like this story concept! The concept of a society which is strict on time down to the second, and has timers embedded into its citizens, reminds me of a couple classic science fiction stories I’ve heard of, namely “Repent Harlequin! Said the Ticktockman” by Harlan Ellison and “Logan’s Run” by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson.

I mean that as the highest of compliments because it’d be interesting to navigate a world like that in a CoG.

Hi Robot,

Thank you so much! While I haven’t read those specific works, I’ve always been a huge fan of Ray Bradbury—especially The Martian Chronicles. There’s something deeply haunting and honest in how he reflects our society through fiction. Of course, Orwell has his own sharp brilliance, but Bradbury’s style and emotional depth have always resonated with me in a unique way.

This concept has actually been in the back of my mind for several years, but I didn’t really have the time—or headspace—to start writing it until high school. Once my athletic seasons wrapped up, I shifted gears toward chasing scholarships, and journaling became a regular part of my routine. That habit ended up being the foundation for what eventually became this project.

Thanks again for the kind words—really glad you’re enjoying the concept, and I hope it continues to live up to the premise!

Best,
Max
