[WIP] All That Glitters (Hollywood Drama/Romance)

Then I definitely can’t wait to customize my mc and also thank you for the response

1. How did the Montgomery Gala feel?

A bit short. This is kind of an event where i would expect to network a bit and actually speak to everyone to understand better who everyone is instead of picking one persont to talk with. Taking Nia seat felt like a dick move, confronting about this being my seat felt like unnecessary confrontation so the ex was kind of the only reasonable choice, kinda railroaded me into this. Auction also didn’t feel like it mattered? Expected some discussions or opinions on the whole ocean preservation to see where people stand as humans as well since the game made it a point to ask if i geniunely care. Feels like several wasted opportunities overall.

2. Which career and arc (Scandal, Rising, etc.) are you playing? Does the story feel tailored to your choice?

Fading Legend, Singer. Not really, it felt like the character is inherently bitter about the state of affairs and i wish i had more control about how i feel about fading away from the public eye. Also besides this one choice (something vaguely rock like in my case) i have no idea what kind of music i was singing, popular how, did any of the characters heard it and/or liked it, just “you were a star” and that’s it. A little more of the “how we got here” would be nice in my opinion.

3. What are your first impressions of the characters now that you’ve met them in person?

Liked the first impact with the PR romance, interested in where it will go. Deciphering which parts are real and which are not would be interesting i reckon. Assistant is there, don’t have much to say about her, didn’t show much personality. From what was shown Ex is irredeemable, used and thrown away, have no idea why there would ever be any desire to try and patch things up. If there were some extenuating circumstances we were hinted on about - sure, but for now it’s a clear cut case of her being a massive asshole. Actress was alright, didn’t get impression past “bright and bubbly”. Too early for a clearer picture.

4. English is not my first language, so any help with phrasing or grammar would be immensely appreciated!

It felt nice to read, don’t really have anything negative to say about sentense structure or how it’s presented.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such detailed feedback! This is incredibly helpful and has given me a lot to think about as I continue developing the game :slightly_smiling_face:

1. The Montgomery Gala: I kept this event relatively short because there will be plenty of red-carpet opportunities later, and I didn’t want the first one to overshadow more pivotal events coming up. However, I hear you on the seating choices! I didn’t intend for them to feel like ‘forced’ or ‘rude’ moves, so I’ll definitely look into re-balancing those options. I also appreciate the note on the auction, I’ll see if I can weave in more of those ‘human’ moments regarding the cause!

2. Careers & Arcs: I’m taking notes on adding more depth to the singer’s career, thank you for that! Regarding the Fading Legend arc, the bitterness is intentional as a starting point (‘I’m disappearing and I don’t like it’), but as the story moves forward, you will have full control over whether you stay bitter or change your approach entirely. I hope that helps clarify my vision for that path!

3. Characters: The Ex is definitely meant to be the ‘toxic’ relationship of the bunch, haha! I view the Gala as a brief introduction to the cast; you’ll get to know their layers much better as the chapters progress. Fun fact: you can actually finish the demo without even meeting the Paparazzo… it’s all about the slow burn!

4. Writing: Thank you so much for the kind words! That really means a lot to me.

Thanks again for your honesty and for helping me make the game better!:slightly_smiling_face:

Also i forgot to mention it in the original post, maybe i didn’t interpret the event correctly, but the part about selling a yacht, a notoriously harmful thing for the ocean, in the gala dedicated to preservation of the ocean, kinda felt like a mockery or an oversight and by extention made Nia look… quite dense. I don’t know if it’s intended or not, just felt like pointing it out, again maybe i didn’t understand the nature of the event correctly.

I’m afraid I don’t have anything useful for feedback, but I had fun! Looking forward to more.

Like a stereotypical celeb then. Like how all the top climate conferences are some of the events that generate the most private jet moves in the world as anybody who is anybody or wants to pretend to be somebody there almost has to arrive there in one of those things.
So I’d say one of the auction prize things being a yacht adds a layer of verisimilitude to the story, fortunately even my scandalous male model mc is too sensible to bid on that one. Besides even as quite possibly the most successful male model to date in the alternate universe of the game odds are my mc would be one of the relatively “poorer” celebs there as the absolute top male models struggle to pull in $10 million a year with modelling being the one industry where the top women out-earn the top men 4 or 5 to 1.

The auction just shows how out of touch everyone is with the real world, MC included. You can talk to the journalist about caring for the ocean, but everyone is really just there for the PR, the networking, or recruiting for their own movie. It’s all just for show.

Maybe a newcomer MC could have some flavour text here about becoming disillusioned with the industry.

Really great start! Excited for more!

That’s exactly right. Nobody cares about the oceans, all that matters is reputation. My MC thinks so too; he told the reporter he’s concerned about the seas, but that’s just to clean up his image.

My MC even tried for the crown, but he didn’t succeed. My MC even tried for the crown.

This is so well written; I really enjoyed reading the demo. I’m excited to go back and play the other backgrounds! I’m always interested in second chance love stories, but we’ll have to see. Getting dumped cause we weren’t helping Cross’ career is a real jerk move.

Great promise on this one! I have a question - can romance options initiate the romantic actions or hit on my MC themselves? Sometimes I would like to be pursued and not be the pursuer who chooses the heart chaped choices all the time. Also, because sometimes I feel giddy or shy to choose certain bold flirt options. Because according to my gameplays my MC is kind, composed and genuine, and not a flirt at all, but can sometimes be brave to initiate some things.

Thank you everyone for your feedback! I’m so happy to see you’re enjoying the demo. It means the world to me! :sparkling_heart:

That is a fantastic question!

Short answer: Yes, absolutely. I love it when characters feel alive, so the ROs will definitely take the initiative if you’ve shown interest in them.

The Long Answer: There are three different ways for them to pursue the MC:

  • Player-led dynamics: In certain scenes, you’ll see options like ‘Let them take the lead’ vs. ‘I take the initiative.’ I want players to choose the dynamic they feel most comfortable with!

  • Bold personalities: Some characters are bolder than others. Take Chris for example: If you’re an Actor, in Chapter 3 he’s the one suggesting some… ‘private time’ in his trailer. It’s up to you to say yes or shut him down. :clapper_board::fire:

  • The “PR”: And then you have Sutton! C is a special case. Since you’re in a PR relationship, they will initiate affection because it’s part of the job. The real tension comes from wondering: are they doing it for the cameras, or because they actually want to? :eyes:

Basically, if you flirt, expect them to flirt back. And sometimes, they might even catch you off guard!

Hope that answers your question! Can’t wait for you to see more:sparkles:

Can be a pretty good slice of life about celebrities but I have one remark - MC seemed famous “just because”.
Their achievements, for which they are famous, are not mentioned at all even in the paths where MC has an established position or is a rising star. Unlike other characters where it was highlighted; some award here, a successful role in a series there, etc.
I played singer (don’t know what it was like on other paths) and while meeting the actor (I forget their name), they didn’t mention anything, for example, what they thought of MC’s music, whether they even listened to it. I found it rather strange. There was no comments about the new album or song, no song titles were mentioned. The characters talked to each other about roles and movies and complimented each other. Hell, even Leo was mentioned and how brilliant he is. Nothing about MC and their work.

So I felt that the music - what my character is supposedly known for - was completely irrelevant. I think it would be a good idea to have only one career that you could devote full attention to, so it would be something unique, that distinguishes us, instead of four careers that are, well, bland.

I would like more details about what MC does, in the case of a singer it would be: whether they write their own lyrics, what is their genre and “vibe”, whether they dance or not, whether they play an instrument what song or album was their first big hit. I know it might be a lot of work if you intend to continue with these 4 paths (+ 4 paths at what stage are we) but I hope my critical opinion is at least a little helpful and doesn’t sound too harsh.

Wrong pronoun for disgraced female singer Mc

I loved this WIP, personally I do like having four careers and I think it felt personal enough. When I played as a fading actor, there was plenty of reference to my breakout role. I haven’t played the singer career so it may not be as detailed there, but I enjoyed playing as an actor. I enjoyed the characters so far, but it’s obviously a little too early to form concrete opinions. In future chapters, it would definitely be cool to see some more personalization regarding genre, style, etc.

Also, I’m curious - is Chris is an RO?

Thank you for your comment! I’m already adding more choices for the MC’s personalization and their career

I’m sorry, he’s not  Chris is more of a FWB kind of guy… but hey, that could mean a bit of fun for the MC, too
