I think I stumbled across Choice of Romance first, desperately looking for phone app games with romance that didn’t involve macro-sized micropayments. It wasn’t exactly my cup of tea, but looking at the CoG/Hosted Lineup I found some games that were. Choice of Robots was a big one (that ending kills me). Then I found Way Walkers in Hosted and got really hooked. (Technically I also tried Alter Ego but didn’t notice until I was on the forum that it was associated).
At some point in this chaos, I realized that you could code fairly easily in this, and being bored and interested in programming, I downloaded the starter stuff, and made an account for lurking. Disappear long enough to forget I had a forum handle (damn do I hate going by @catorrina), get a craving to play these games again, come back. “Hey, this forum seems kinda cool. Maybe I’ll post this time.” Venture on, get hooked on the atmosphere (“Man, everyone here is super nice, and interesting too”). Drop off again because of life, then just get a craving to come back.
But I like the discussions here; and the community, which is friendly and open, with mods who genuinely try to keep the atmosphere good. I love the representation of different gender/sexuality (despite being cis and usually going for het options, I’m more likely to buy/rec something with good LGBTQ+ options). And I love coding, just… period. So I guess I’m stuck here. ^^’

Me personally found choice of games from my dad. It’s a long story he told me about Batman which I was obsessed with then I found Batman telltale games. After that in my suggestions on the App Store I saw popcorn, soda, murder? And then i went on the company and so on so forth and I was just wondering how you guys on the forum found choice of games/hosted games

I was pretty bored one day and I had a interest in choose your own adventure games from Walking Dead Telltale games and I saw a suggestion for Heroes Rise: The Prodigy in the Google Play Store and figured I’d give this a shot and well, here I am today.

My friend showed me Choice of the Dragon back in 2009. I was already a big fan of IF so it blew my mind because it was much better than any other IF I had read.

Back in, I wanna say 2010, I came across Choice of the Dragon on the play store. I was a much bigger reader back then and by that point I was starting to write my own stuff (despite still being an immature kid with no talent
)
I never really knew about IF as a genre, but I was so into it I kept looking around for more. Choice of the Vampire came out not long after that and I stuck around ever since (except i only joined the forum a little over a week ago lol)

Totalbiscuit’s podcast is how I learned about Choice of Games.
I saw a review of Choice of Romance on Ferretbrain in 2010 and gave it a go!
I stumbled upon Community College Hero on the app store one day. I never knew that stuff like this existed, so I found the website and started looking for more to read.

It was Choice of the Dragon and Choice of Broadsides at first - and then a bunch of other really good ones. Doomsday on Demand, Magium, The Great Tournament were all truly amazing! So I checked it out, found this, and decided to give it a go!

My ultimate lovers are books(my wife) and games(my mistress) and I was bored with popular games like GTA, Persona, etc. I always loved Fire Emblem series but got bored with them too…then I found this series of games called Lifeline and fell in love with it. So i searched Google for similar games like that and most of the results are hosted games from COG. A Wise Use of Time, Creatures Such as We and the Lost Heir series were the first cogs I’ve played, and I always loved these books/games ever since

I was itching for a scifi game after playing Crysis and browsed the playstore discovered, Metahuman Inc. It sorta wasn’t what I was looking for but reading the demo made me buy it and I really loved it! So I googled to see if there was a sequel to it, which sadly there wasn’t
but instead I discovered a whole new world of Choice based text rpgs!

Installed Delight Games on a whim, then found Choice of the Dragon in my Play Store recommendation list. It just grew from there.

A few years ago Amazon Kindle was doing this thing where every day for the summer, there was a new free app or game you could download. I just clicked to buy them when they were free cause, hey, you never know. And one day the free app was Choice of Robots. I didn’t even open it. But then one day I was watching Total Biscuit’s podcast on YouTube (The Co-Optional Podcast) and he talked about Choice of Robots, and I was like, “HEY! I own that one!” And he made it sound interesting so I played it and never looked back. Choice of Robots wasn’t really my cup of tea, but I literally bought, like, 11 of them the day after reading it, starting with Choice of Deathless.
Choice of Dragon brought me here to CoG and then Sabres of Infinity with Choice of Romance hooked me. This was way back in 09 or 10 and then lurked for half a decade before settting up my account xD.
Well I couldn’t play video games as I had become visually impared a while back and had my ps3 stolen
so couldn’t experiment with what games I could play. I had been looking for an accessible online game for ages, but they were either inaccessible or crap. I then found the best online game I’ve found to date, an online MMORPG text mafia game, I loved it but then it shut down a while after, not sure why, it had a good few users, not massive but still.
So I tried to find another good game to occupy my time, but I just found a bunch of crappy overhyped games. Then I found some old school zorc style games, but they just pissed me off. You walk forwards, nothing happens, you walk left, nothing happens. You’re in a fight, but you don’t attack as you don’t input the phrase in the specific way it needs to be worded…yeah, just no, just really no. But it did give me the idea to look for those types of games, but hopefully better. Then I found COG and games like dilemma, an amazing but never talked about game, along with choice of zombies, also amazing but never talked about, choice of dragons etc…oh and that game where you’re mentally ill, and imprisoned, but not as keen on those two.
I later tried out the forums, just because why not, the games are quality, maybe that quality applies to the forums too? And it does
. It has a great community feel, not so small that there’s barely any activity, but not so big there’s a new post every other minute on every thread and you never recognise any of the usernames due to how many there are. For those reasons to date COG forums are the only ones I use, as other forums I have tried before and after finding COG really do fall in to either of those two categories.
