I love Broadsides way that shows how could be a matriarchal society for once and women are strong. Iam so tired with you are a woman so media assumes
YOU ARE FEEBLE
YOU ARE DESIRING A MAN CONTROL YOU
YOU CAN’T DO NOTHING BY YOURSELF SO FOCUSIN PRETTY DRESSES TO ATTRACT A FUTURE HUSBAND
AND OF COURSE YOU HAVE LIKE ALL WOMEN LESBIAN FANTASIES BECAUSE WHITE TEEN MALE DESIRES FULLFILL AN HAREM FETICHE WITH TONS OF WOMEN AND HE THE ALFA MONKEY
I’m so tired about the media in general until now only Bioware have made something more or less egalitarian in romance in games.
@Shoelip I do wonder though what the differences, purely financial would be, from an official game to a hosted one. Does anyone know? I would imagine that it wouldn’t get as much coverage, wouldn’t make it onto the apple store, that kind of thing?
@MutonElite I know my ruthless Mara in mass effect has a soft spot for Tali she is so cute . BUT NOPE NO TALI EVEN IF SHE CLEARLY FLIRT WITH YOU. But that was no bioware fault their design tali and jack as bisexual but EA decided that where too much sexual open option for them. The audio scenes romance was recorded, but quit from the actual game. They are doing a great job with DAI with realistic characters with their preferences based in their own story
@MutonElite Miranda Lawson? She’s the one with her ass where her face should be right? That is, on camera.
@poinson_mara Damn that was scary. For a second there I thought you were going Full Straw on us until I read your post more carefully. I don’t really like the idea of Broadsides in general, but I suppose it’s not really harmful as an exception rather than a rule. It’s just, I’ve seen matriarchies done much better than what amounted to Shakespeare with the males played by women. One of my favorite JRPGs for example has the protagonist as the young prince of the Queendom of Falena fighting to restore his little sister’s birthright. Of course it was Japanese, so you couldn’t possibly expect to play as a competent female who wasn’t extremely sexualized… but the world itself was awesome.
I suppose I shouldn’t complain about broadsides though when I’m still a sucker for the damsel in distress trope. Course I’m even more of a sucker for the decoy damsel trope… What does this say about me? Hm…
@Shoelip Well, where ever the camera did land, she was quite pleasing. Not so much personality wise but eh. At least she wasn’t as bad as Ashley. Still waiting for a Krogan RO though, or Elcor.
@MutonElite Hey, come on now. It’s not Ashley’s fault the writers seemed to be unsure whether or not she was a schizophrenic or had a multiple personality disorder.
@Havenstone Weird comic. Starts out funny, then suddenly breaks out into a rather dry lecture about not judging people by appearances… and then gets even weirder as it still apparently has the alien unable to understand human sexual dimorphism… Actually, it all ends up being kind of depressingly ironic when the advanced alien life form decides to leave earth due to its inability to understand our own cultural diversity and thinks every human is as stupid as the alpha moron it first met.
I agree it moved from funny to dry. But how do we know the alien was leaving earth? Maybe it was just going to talk with one of its five existing friends.
…wow… how could I have not realized it would eventually come to this… an erotic 50 shades of grey CoG storygame… its a… very bold move to make, nevertheless it does make commercial sense, erotic content is a best seller on the ebook interface, though this does leave me curious as to the other aspects of such potential games, like the impact creating an erotic game would have on plot, character development, etc…
@Havenstone And there’s the part where it says that men can have children with each other…
It’s actually pretty heavy handed in the way it seems to act as if cultural norms don’t even exist outside this guy’s head when in fact they are well, norms.
@Harian
“Erotica” doesn’t necessarily mean “50 Shades of Grey”, at least, I would hope not. I’d like to think that the authors we have here can do better. Ultimately, it’s just another genre, one that requires its own time for research, which might benefit from an author’s personal experiences.
@MutonElite
I actually found what Choice of Broadsides did pretty believable. Mind you, our Regency Era was the time of Beau Brummel (who, IIRC, took three hours to dress every day, and *charged money* so that people could see him do it) and the Prince Regent, when dressing well and speaking elegantly was a mark of heterosexual manliness. In an age when military officers were expected to be overdressed and well-mannered, and the lower classes (which made up the vast majority of a ship’s company, or a regiment on land) were expected to be burly, crude, and blunt, I don’t think much would have to change to switch male and female around so long as you don’t ask *too* many questions about social ramifications.
I agree that the erotic content does not need to be the core of the game. So, being banned from the Apple App Store is not mandatory.
It is a subject that is not yet explored. Imagine some of the more difficult decisions. You come back from work and find your girlfriend with another. What do you do? Make a scene, apologize, just leave or join? It can be the background of a social game.
What about if you have a game with a menue where you could tone the graphic descriptions up at will, the default being off? Could that fit on Hosted?
I feel just because there’s erotic content in a game, it shouldn’t be reduced to a site with only erotic games, if you go to such a site, you’re hardly looking for a game with depth, you’re just looking to get off. Adult in the broader sense of the meaning, sex as a part, not as the purpose hmm. Sadly, this is something the gaming industry has yet to pull off.
@MutonElite: Japan’s been able to do it for a while now. Plenty of their H-games, even ones catering to the most extreme fetishes, are as good at writing a compelling story as they are at providing interesting sex. (Or better at it. fate/stay night and Tsukihime have stories of legendary quality, but the sex scenes use absolutely mind-scarring purple prose and metaphors. We should try to do better…)
I’m still wondering why an individual game that wouldn’t meet Apple’s standards couldn’t be sold through Hosted Games, just without Apple? Yes, they’d have to accept the loss of Apple revenue, but so would this hypothetical new label.
