"Werewolf: The Apocalypse — The Book of Hungry Names" Demo Available Now!

If that’s true, then I honestly have no damn clue why they would even include options related to being a part of those tribes already. I get adding DLC to games in the WoD setting, because that’s ultimately something Paradox is more than happy to do, but at that point why not remove the related options to those tribes and just add them once the DLC is done and released?

The option to inspect the Black Furies statue (needed to set the variable that allows you to actually join) is currently gated behind (*if dlc_1) in woods.txt, so probably(?) a misplaced tag since you can “consider” joining the Furies right now and you can’t “consider” any of the other dlc-slated tribes I’ve found in the code.

I’m in Chapter 4 at the town trying to find Melanie (?). I’m with podge and some locals throw trash at us. The very next page one of the choices is INT + Firearms (something about looking for snipers) but “Firearms” is not in my skill list. The choice is on the page after that, too.

Spoiler below, a reference connected to Night Road

Nice reference to Biosphere Zero and Paul, by the way.

Will there be a checkpoint system on release? I know you can’t die unless you’re in iron wolf mode and all, but failing your 4th statcheck isn’t fun, especially since the game is massive enough as it is…

I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s intentional, if I’m being entirely honest. It would be so in brand for Paradox (company who owns WoD) to demand DLC to be added to the game, and if you have the IP holder breathing down your neck about DLC, what better way to appease them than baking the first DLC straight into the game from launch? That way, you’ll already have DLC ready to go, and won’t have to worry about adding it after development of the game is already done.

From what I’ve seen, the EXP system is the money. And the amount you get is based on your passed and failed stat checks in chapters.

But instead of just “magically” getting stronger ((We technically dont have a tribe for half the game, or a caern. So limited on the “magic”)). So, it was implemted as paying for training instead of getting stronger through ordeals.

Which, for the Garou soooort of makes sense, i guess? Cainites get stronger with age, and by lowering their bloodline, and honing their bloodline gifts. So, you could say fledglings start off “weak”. Lots of my friends think the Cainites are more of the social aspect of WoD with some combat sprinkled on, while Garou are the combat aspect with a little social sprinkled on.

I kinda see it, since Garou start off as literal beasts and are normally tasked with killing stuff. Lol

Anyone been able to actually learn the wards from the stone? Says i have the perfect stats, and would be allowed to, but the option to do it isnt appearing; not even as a grayed out option.

That sounds like something that should probably be reported to them.

My biggest complaint would be that the sandboxey nature of the game can make the packmate’s introduction feel somewhat unfocused on. That is to say, unless you visit the part of our territory which pertains to a particular packmate, their return barely registers in the game itself until it’s time to go on a mission. But SHIT, we got actual packmates which is, surprisingly, a rarity in Werewolf games.

Plus, the writer’s styles features a number of sardonic jokes in the prose which sometimes clash if you’re playing a Garou full of dignity but that’s just his style, it was already like this in Night Road.

That’s in…10 min, if I’m reading that right.

EDIT: Looks like WOD got the daylight savings mixed up. This will be going live at noon Eastern.

EDIT 2: We have an announcement coming around 2pm Eastern regarding the DLC. We’re just waiting for something to happen. Please be patient.

Is the clashing a bad thing? I’ve gone through it all and was never forced to go against the persona of my character, the option was always there, though. But most interactive fiction games have this.

As for the packmates not having much of an impact. I wont spoil anything, but this changes later on. With and just gonna list of generalizations.

Interacting with them, and the zones.
Gifts, and Tribe finding.

And waaaaaay later on, important stuff.

I wish this game was coming out this month instead of late next month. Idk why Steam often want to release these IF games much later. I’m still waiting for Demon:Recollect on Steam and that game been finished and released for some years now so Idk why it’s not out yet.

In regards to the packmate, I guess it’s a combination of how your stats can lead to you not interacting with them much during their recruitment missions and then, when the opportunity to speak with them inbetween missions show up, not only are they easy to miss, but there isn’t a proper introduction if you happened to not really speak with them during their recruitment missions.

As for the prose, I wouldn’t say the game forces you to go against the persona of your character. It’s more like, you may be the playing a deathly serious character; in fact, one of the convictions is “Find Strength through Dignity”; while the prose is cracking jokes very often. But yeah, ultimately, that’s the author’s style.

I don’t think it’s about Steam. The game is still in beta testing.

It looks to be a huge game.

Uh, yeah. 1.8 MILLION words long.

CoG and HC games always get Steam releases. In addition to what Aletheia said, this one will be going through copy-editing too before 25th April which is going to be… substantial given the 1.8M words situation.

Yeah, I’m…not quite sure how I’m going to do it, honestly.
I only got started around mid-Feb and have already spent a few sleepless nights for the demo. Pray for me!
