Weeping Gods (WIP, 06/DEC/2024) (307K on Patreon)

Hmm the guard background is awesome but on immersive historical narrative I think Female guard probably not historical, Priest however still historically accurate.

Historical accuracy aside I think so far it’s good.

There were female pharaohs as well :person_shrugging: They were officially represented as male because the role of the pharaoh was a male one. Hatshepsut was a famous female pharaoh. Everyone knew she was a woman but on her official statues and reliefs as a pharaoh, she was often referred to as male. So I don’t see why female guards couldn’t have existed in all those years of history. It’s like saying female soldiers never existed. Especially in a society like the Ancient Egyptian, where genders often had a lot more equality than we do today.

Besides. The story has magic. And spirits. And it also has a warning that it’s not historically accurate

Well like I said it just from the historical narrative, not changing my opinion about th story.

I know, I was just trying to give a bit more context  And I also like talking about history lol you probably have noticed by now. The explanation you get when you play the captain as a woman (this part: “It’s not always easy to be a woman in your profession. As Captain of the Guard, people often treat you like they would a man…” etc.) came from actual historical references. So I didn’t just make that up out of nowhere to make the game more inclusive. But I wasn’t offended or anything and I’m very happy you like the game! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

SHOOT! I just realized that I screwed up the word count! :joy: I forgot to count the chapter 2 scenes! So the last update with the captain was actually 22 thousand words, not 16k… Ah damn I suspected something was up because I made a comment to myself in the file before captain goes to the palace that the word count up to that point is 17k. So after that, the numbers didn’t add up lol.

Welp. Now we know.

So, the actual word count of the story (with code) is 191 000, as it turns out.

You lied to us! You scoundrel! You charlatan! :sob:

Wait, is there a chpt 2 with guard? My story kinda ended with Narmer peacing out as he do to smooze some ambassador.

Also, now that I think about it, I didn’t get the age option for guard either. (Though I assume we have to at least be late twenties and up since we served under Narmer. Lol

Sorry, I’m an idiot sometimes.

There is no chapter 2 with the guard yet! I just meant that when I counted the words for the whole demo, I forgot to include the file that contains the already existing chapter 2 scenes because that’s in a separate .txt  That’s why you didn’t get the age choice with the captain yet because that will be in ch2. But yes, the guard and the priest both will be 25+yo.

I think all the background is close in rank in my opinion, will this different background have different impact later when we go search the missing artifact?

Sometimes you will get different scenes, extra dialogue options, different inner commentary and stuff like that. Apart from the ROs, there will also be a non-romanceable companion coming with you on the mission, who will be different for every background. So your choice of origin will change certain scenes for sure, but it won’t affect the outcome of the quest if that makes sense  Your successes or failures during the mission will be determined by your stats and your choices during crucial moments.

Busybody poll time! So, who’s your favourite MC? And if there’s more than one, what order are they in?

  • Thief
  • Noble
  • Priest
  • Guard
  • I can’t decide!

I acatually, truly cannot pick one. So I voted “I can’t decide” and Noble. But really, it’s all of them! In order?

  1. Noble. I just love the poor thing, particularly if you chose the widowed option.
  2. Guard. Because I know those feelings, best and worst of them.
  3. Priest. Yeah, I’ve been perpetually late for over a year.
  4. Thief. They’re just cute. :woman_shrugging:t5:

I haven’t played the guard yet, but I voted noble because I enjoyed that path so much I have a hard time imagining any path topping it.

My current order is:

  1. Noble for the wet cat energy
  2. Priest because of the angst of someone going after the apprentice
  3. Thief because I didn’t find this path as memorable as the others. (but it has been a while, so I might need to replay it.)

So we’ll see where guard comes in at when I get the chance to play that path.

Who did you flirt with, so far? Noble’s pretty taken with Narmer from the point where he holds the big bowl of Everclear for you. Thief with no one, but I tend to make/see them as a teen. Priest and Guard both with Zaia, so far. Even against their better judgement.

I actually ended up with a pretty similar list. lol. I too flirted with Narmer as the noble. I flirted with Zaia as the priest. I’m leaning towards Qenna with my thief, but I haven’t fully decided for that one.

I’ll probably wait until we’re a few more chapters in to officially decide which background to pair with which RO, but these are my current thoughts.

I grew up with an alcoholic parent so I just can’t with Quenna. Even if it’s all or mostly pretense I just can’t go there. The idea of being around those smells and habits again viscerally disgusts me. Even though I know it’s fiction. :confounded:

Honestly, I love all four origins fairly equally…but I guess…

  1. Noble. Early 20s. I adore my rebellious, adventurous Yunre. (Cat energy, indeed) And he’ll be romancing Qenna. (Ignore the cry of despair from the Vizier, pls)
  2. Priest. Late 20s. Hasani is a mother hen with the powers of Set. Let his enemies fear his angry mom energy. He’ll be romancing the elite warrior, maybe. We shall see
  3. Thief. Late 20s. Seneb has a special spot in my heart. A kindhearted little short King. He’ll be, to his own horror, romancing Narmer. Lol
  4. Guard. Kebu is getting to old for this (at his 30s, lol)…but if his king and country need him… He’ll be romancing Zaia it seems. They already have an amusing dynamic with his slight unease and Zaia’s tendency to be a troll.

And this is why, given a list of gods, I chose the entity of Chaos itself. Clearly, me RO options reflect this.

Nooo. Don’t say that. Everyone makes mistakes, and this isn’t that big a deal. I was just teasing you in good nature.

The noble is my favorite (widowed, obvs). I’m just really sus about that spirit curse the priest puts on us, makes me wary. It’s the only background with a giant red flag lol.

And def flirting with Narmer in all routes.

Thief is my fav because I just like playing thieves.

Noble #1 always and forever. I’m a sucker for deeply insecure characters who compensate with bravado and faux-confidence (how I’m playing). Planning to romance Qenna 'cause I’m picking up on the early seeds of some thematic parallels I find compelling (eg. true self vs projected/perceived self conflicts). Of course, I also have to flirt with Narmer for the existential crisis it triggers lol.

I’m waiting for the complete guard route before I play it. Priest route was interesting but doesn’t unseat the noble. I haven’t finished the thief route as the character didn’t grab me the same way noble/priest did. Maybe I’ll give it another try eventually.

I had a suspicion that the noble would win so far  Although it isn’t exactly fair on the captain whose route isn’t even out yet completely
