UnNatural Season Two Released 4th May 23

Been forced to take a break from writing due to laptop issues so instead making preparation for the next UnNatural art contest. So the prize (an unpainted sculpture of the protagonist as features on the new cover for season one.) Is being sculpted as you read this.

I’m just trying to settle on a theme. So here are my initial ideas. Thought a poll would be useful.

  • Protagonist only.
  • NPCs only.
  • Romance options only.
  • Protagonist and NPC.
  • Protagonist and RO.
  • An Unnatural.
  • Favourite scene.
  • EVERY OPTION!!
  • Hey where’s my option? (Comment below).

I’ve kind of been in limbo with my writing for most of this month which has been disappointing. Only bit of work I’m happy with is some groundwork for the background of the Riders Aka the UnNaturalverse equivalent of the four horsemen. Although these are more modern version as they are not the originals and their names War, Death, Pestilence and ??? (Can’t decide whether to go with famine, conquest or something different). Are more of a title than a name.

Also their powers although powerful are very specific.

Death; can take from or give to a person’s lifetime. Current rider is a paramedic.

War; can instantly learn how a weapon works and can spot and fix flaws in their design. Current rider runs a gun range.

Pestilence; their body has samples of all bacteria and viruses known, those forgotten and any yet to be discovered and they can pass on any combination or dose they require. Current rider is a viral specialist for a medical company.

How about Epoch?
Currently works at University of [Insert name], as an History professor, what type you say? Why all of them Going from world, us, military, euro, etc.

By simply making direct eye contact for a few seconds, they can see an entire person’s history as if it was an Epic. They can also rewrite the past and future within an span of a week.

Do you mean they can rewrite the last week? Interesting thought.

I meant it as the past week and current week.
But feel free to change or rewrite it too suite your needs.
And now that you mention it, it would be better if they were limited to only the last week
@Nocturnal_Stillness

I’m thinking that it’s be best if they can generally rewrite the past week but they can at least one time during their role as Epoch send someone back to any time in their lifetime for an hour before being dragged back but they can only do that once as it ends their role and someone else becomes Epoch. And a person can only go back to that point once.

That’s even better than what I had thought originally, also does this passing of the torch apply only to Epoch or is it also viable for the other riders?

Epoch seems like character best suited as a more divine being then a rider of the apocalypse.
Just throwing in an opinion the riders should represent the precursor to the end as they always have war being first to create famine from famine to pestilence then finally death.

I have always been critical of the second horsemen as they do not seem to be needed, personally i believe the start of the apocalypse begins based on human emotions such as despair, pain or suffering that lead to war and with war causes sickness then ultimately death.

I am not creative enough to think of a avatar or character to represent the feeling despair, fear and suffering. But I do believe that it’s power should be based in the mind and spirit a very Shakespearean character that is more philosophical then the brute of war or the bluntness of death. Basically a character of anguish incarnate.

All of them are titles passed on.

I kind of agree Famine always seem the least of the four horsemen and what they represent. It is why he is sometimes replaced with Conquest.

The riders in this incarnation aren’t simply there for the apocalypse although that was originally their original purpose now they are more about balancing the world. It’s why I like the concept of Epoch fits into that narrative.

Biblically speaking the Four Horsemen are Conquest (White), War (red), Famine (Black), Death (pallid/green). Since ‘Conquest’ is such a vague idea, it’s the one I think I’ve personally seen the most replaced with Pestilence in media stuff.

If your looking for an interesting take on Famine, one of the interpretations of it is ‘economic disparity’. It’s called out that only the staples of a poor family’s diet are the ones who prices are raised, while it is also specifically stated that luxury items are untouched.

(of course, no need to be remotely biblical about it though!)

@Nocturnal_Stillness @JMH

I think the first horsemen is Conquest who could also be replaced with " Pestilence" or Plague

In some interpretation i read, Conquest may also be view as Righteousness or even Christ himself, as with the colour White for purity / purification …

Along with Christ arriving on a white horse later on in the book. I’ve also seen the interpretation its the Anti-Christ (coming as Christ at the beginning of the apocalypse, with Christ himself coming at the end).

One interpretation, which I think (according to my semi-lapsed Catholic dad who is not entirely sure himself, at least) is the official Catholic Church stance is that all of Revelation is a coded history of what was going on in Rome at the time. Conquest is the Roman Empire being formed, War is civil wars within the Empire, Famine is oppressive taxes on basic goods by the Emperor, and Death is the eventual collapse of Rome. Which could make for neat inspiration, though I’m sure @Nocturnal_Stillness already has a good idea of the Horsemen in the UnNaturalverse.

I like the idea of instead of going straight for a traditional horsemen, why not introduce a new one to the four, add a fifth with a Fear/Hope like horsemen, since they are more about bringing balance instead of the Apocalypse. Fear/Hope create War, War then creates Famine, and so forth…ya know? The Four horsemen and the hidden Fifth??

Ironically I am reading a series where the four horsemen are trying to recruit the main character to become the fifth horsemen Hope lol

If you’re still having trouble deciding how to work with the four horsemen of the appocolypse, then why not try something different.

For example, you could instead have the seven deadly sins, such as greed and gluttony, or perhaps, if you want them to work with the player, you could have human desires, such as knowledge, entertainment and popularity.

Just a suggestion, you can stick with the four horsemen if you want, it is your story after all.

That sounds like it would be an interesting read!

It’s not the main plot of the books but one of the story threads in the series. Fun fact the protagonist as part of his horseman role (which he has yet to accept) is having his own steed which in his case is a unicorn called Grimm who likes to murder rainbows.

Likes to murder rainbows…I like murdering rainbows…whats this series called? Cause just that tidbit of info sounds familiar and interesting

It’s by a guy called Shayne Silvers and the series is called the “Nate Temple Chronicles” or something like that. The first in the series is called Obsidian Son.
