As I’m working on the last episode of season one, I have been giving the finished product some more thought.
How does this sound…
Unnatural will have two different versions.
Version One will be free to play online and on your mobile.
Version Two will be the Director’s Cut featuring new scenes and cases and will be pay to play but will no longer have an extra episode.
Now here is a question which version would you get?
version 1 first, check if its good (it will be) then buy version 2 (I will)
This is a very good question, but one I think you won’t get a good (accurate) answer too. For example, I could tell you I’d buy the second one, but I could also tell you why.
It’s because I’m a big supporter of CoG games and have followed this game’s development and want to support you, if I can.
But you have maybe, what, thirty (max?) who follow this thread and game, that’s a pitiful amount of sales.
I think if people knew about the free version it would depend on the price of the app, but you’ll find most people will still go for the free version, particularly if all you’re missing out on is a few special scenes.
I use AVG Free virus protection for example, I have absolutely no intention of upgrading to AVG Premium, regardless of the cost, I just don’t need the extras it provides.
In a nutshell: Chances are that the majority of people on this forum will buy it, but everyone outside it won’t. The outside is the vast majority of your audience sadly.
So even if 90% of the replies to this thread say buy, you need to take that into account.
Personally I think the best way to do it is provide a free app, like Zombie Exodus, give them a few free episodes - if people like it enough, they’ll be happy to pay for more.
But people are less inclined to *gamble* and buy an app outright - and if there’s a free version, most people will go for it, I think - if the only difference is a few scenes.

Atm episodes 3-6 will have 3 case each so 12 possible cases
With version 2 I’d be adding another 4 cases as well as other additional scenes.
My POV is personally I don’t mind just having it free but I’d be lying if I said I would mind people if were willing to pay for the time and effort put into it.
I’m giving it a lot of thought so not putting all my eggs in one basket.

Yeah, you should go for the ZE aproach. First few episodes free then do a pay thing, if you do choose this I would prefer it if were ‘pay for the rest of the season’ rather than ‘Episode 5 is £0.99 (Example price)’ But it’s your game.

I think that’s the best path, @Nocturnal_Stillness. The first few episodes will grab readers’ attentions, and then they’ll have a very good idea on whether they want episodes 4-6 or not.
Profit in that 1337ish Streetish sense is a general term for - good/yay/happy/done -

In your case, the split free and paid bundles sound like the way to go. I completely understand wanting to have a free version available, but @CJW has a point, and you really deserve to get something in return for all of the time and effort that you’ve put into the game. People will see that the price to continue is well worth it after the first few episodes!
Okay that’s what I’ll do.
You will eventually be able to acquire Unnatural in two bundles.
Bundle One: Contains Episodes 1, 2 and 3 and will be available for free.
Bundle Two: Contains Episodes 4, 5 and 6 and will be available to purchase (Price TBD)
Things to do:
- Finish Episode 6,
- beta test the whole game to stomp out bugs.
- improve game with comments from testers.
- hope @Pale_Strider comes back soon to finish the other titles for the episodes as I would hate to have to change art style half way into the season.
- Profit???
What would the price be for the bundle?
Not sure yet, I’ll wait till I find out the total word count and will talk it over with CoG themselves.
For all three chapters I would go about 1.50 for the bundle ,but still your game.
