To break a curse/ To break the cursed (22k words) | Medical-Drama, Fantasy, romance, slice of life, sci fi

To break a curse/ To break the cursed is a game of many facettes. Do the tags look like I just mashed all of the buttons I could find? Maybe. Is that because I took parts of everything I liked and tried to create a compelling story out of it? Totally! Trust me I have a plan!

Synopsis

The World is doomed. Life as we know it will end soon unless someone takes care of it. Too bad you spent the last decade of your life dedicated to become a doctor instead of having fun. You leave the saving the world part to people more qualified than you. Your hands are full with patient that need saving themselves.

After years of grueling work as an intern and hours spent in a stuffy lab for your research you finally were able to publish your first paper! It’s about to make huge waves. Sadly you can’t fully concentrate on changing the medical system when more pressing issues arise.

You play as a genius doctor in a world that is a bizzare mix of sci-fi and fantasy elements. When everything is different can you still issue a diagnosis? Cure magic diseases, romance your co-workers and fight for your research in this Slice of Life novel

Did I mention that you get transfered to a special ward that treats a Knight’s Order/secret service

What to expect

The synopsis really does a bad job of conveying the core of my story. It’s hard to talk about it without spoiling too much. All that you need to know for now is that the story will have a Scrubs/Dr. House vibe to it. It’s a blend of personal drama, romance, slice of life and medical cases which allow you to play detective! You can expect a (hopefully) interesting cases with fictional components based on real world science. The story is supposed to have a hopeful and light hearted touch (with a bit of angst sprinkled on top). I put a lot of work into research for the medical stuff and hope I’m as acurate as possible but no guarantee of course. This whole thing is a loveletter to the topic of medicine itself because I really enjoy learning about the human body.

Terminal illnesses and death will be major themes in the story so be aware of that

I would appreciate feedback of any kind! Especially helpful would be an overview of your stats, general opinion and I would love to know if you solved the first case/ how hard it was for you and your outcome of the conference.

Sounds interesting! ill give a a read when I have the time.

Also I now find it weird that this isn’t a bigger genre in IF thinking it through.

Hey thank you so much it would mean the world to me. I also thought I would find more medical dramas but I only found one so far(The Citadel). I hope I can do the genre justice.

Ooo this is so cool. I just read the whole thing and it was so amazing. I am so intrigued by this, the ending caught me so off guard and I can’t wait to see much more! This is so good istg. There were a few spelling errors I saw but I was way too focused to screenshot them so I’ll point them out as soon as I can, but all in all this is great!

I’m glad you enjoyed it! I just finished correcting some spelling mistakes so maybe they are already taken care of.

If you enjoyed the end of the first chapter stay tuned! That patient will play a major role in the story

This sounds exciting. It’s been a long time since there was IF where you play a doctor, scientist etc. I’ll definitely check it out.

This was such a different type of story to the usual ones we get here, and I found it fascinating. There’s a lot of character choices so it felt appropriate to chose one that suited my personality, and I quite liked the way we listened to the elf and then diagnosed him with what we learned.

I will say that the paragraphs could do with more spacing however because there was far too much put together that it began to feel like a wall of text and I know many people will just click right off the story without even reading when they see that.

I’m looking forward to the future update and the little human girls case study!

I really enjoyed this one very much. To be a doctor and working with a unwilling nurse (such a brat ) and to be rivals with a witch doctor, sounds awesome. And now I wait for the last romance option, the kitty cat hehe~

I’m looking forward to more

Yeah the wall of text criticism is valid. I will try a different spacing but I think the amount of text is a bigger problem that is hard to fix. The conference is the worst offender I feel. Maybe I should cut some stuff or move it to another place. Thank you for the feedback!

Im glad you enjoy the characters! Im not sure yet when the cat will appear. Im trying to include them in the next chapter or at worst the one after that. I really want the whole cast to be together as soon as possible to give them the time they deserve

I haven’t played your story yet, but right off the bat, Naomi is a Japanese name while Navin leans towards Indian. I think you could go with either Nao (Male) or Navina (Female) instead. Just informing you in case it wasn’t deleberate. If it was, you can continue as is, and I apologise for the breaching

Naomi can be either Hebrew, Japanese, or various cultures. When used in various languages and cultures, it is typically spelled as Noemi. Naomi, in Japanese, is the most common modern version of the name.

Nao is a very good Japanese male equivalent. Noah is a good Hebrew male alternative.

Was my comment read properly by you? However, this information is appreciated by me

Hey! I appreciate the insight but Dr. Hildreth is not meant to be japanese/asian. I am still unsure if I want to include a cannon ethnicity at all to the characters since it’s a different world altogether but if you anyone is interested I will inculde a list of my “head cannon until I decide whether it’s relevant or not”

Head cannon

Darwin/Dana Einthoven - Arabic

Naomi/Navin Hildreth - african/south africa

Willebrand siblings - greece

Erika/Erik Kastelle - european

There is another character that is asian but Im not sure if I want to include a romance for them yet.

Some of them are more vague then others and most names don’t fit perfectly into the culture but I just went with what felt right it’s a fantasy story after all. Im pretty set on the surnames because they have a meaning to me but if anyone has suggestions for different first names I’m always open to change! For some more than others.

I didn’t want to spam my own thread but I will take this opportunity to sneak in a few polls. I should have done it sooner cause most people interested already finished the demo I assume but maybe some are still around to answer.
