I can see the subtle changes that’ve been made since the last time I played from the beginning
Found an error when I was checking the stat screen at chapter 4:
“Line 1490: Variable ‘stat_law’ exists but has no value”
@AllenGies If you refuse to be a marshal, you still get a ‘epilogue’
[It was well known that Marshal Unknown Wanderer never took a bribe, despite numerous offers over the years. Indeed, a hundred years down the line people in Nevada sometimes say they want to make a Unknown’s bargain when integrity is what matters. One Legend point awarded.
There are no variations to your tale. It is told, strong and true. Three Legend points awarded.
Despite your efforts around Preston Springs, no one really remembers the name of Unknown Wanderer let alone your deeds. Too many other lights burn bright across the dark of the western night and readily eclipse your own.]
I think this shouldn’t exist at all. Maybe you could just end the game with something along the lines of
‘There was no Marshal for Lander country, and Preston Springs turned into a lawless outlaw town.’
@AllenGies My name was entered in a Thank you page, my life is completed kill me now. Its been a good ride.
@Kitty9 - I hope you’ll like it this time through.
@Dray -In order to move things around as you suggest I would probably have to have moderator rights in the his folder. As the game is close to wrapping up (Knock on wood), it wouldn’t do much good. Next game though…
@Bloodwyche - Oops. I coded in a variable incorrectly. Should be fixed now. Thanks for noting it. I’ll run the whole thing through testing again in the morning.
@Dude - Another flaw in the stat-screen? Apparently I allowed an allocation gap in the law_stat. This too should be fixed. Glad you reported it as the error wouldn’t have shown up on autotest.
@Xt1000305 -Hmm. I think you are right. Getting shot after supposedly being hung probably doesn’t warrant even a brief epilogue. I’ll fix that soon.
Unless the next batch of testing goes horribly awry, I am planning on submitting the Tin-Star files to Choice of Games either late tomorrow or early Wednesday.
One critical thing for that is structural testing; CJW’s save system isn’t fully supported and so a reversion to checkpoints will have to be implemented for a time. This will mean a single save that is active only while the game is open. However, I will probably return to the old save format for ease of beta-testing out typos and the like if the official version is accepted.
Hey @AllenGies, I think there’s a problem with the autosave. When I first access it, the save doesn’t come and after I restart it, neither the autosave or the other saves work. This only applies to the autosave, the other saves work on the first try
Just got to the sequence where you are gathering evidence against Steele and after doing everything except speaking to Preston I decided to speak with Preston and found I had to ask around town again.
Still getting the review of the legend at the end of Chapter 7.
When mentioning the MC had pull with Hartigan to James in Chapter 8 I got a blank screen from which I was able to get back to the game by checking the stats.
In Chapter 9 when choosing to shoot Regina the line “take careful aim” needs capitalization and it still says there is no Chapter 10 when you reach the end.
In Chapter 10, I think that “Ask Miss Caraway how things went down with Hungry Snake.” is a little impersonal as the MC was in a successful relationship with her at this point, can this be made a variable so that if the MC is in a relationship the opening changes to “Ask Cassie…” and “The renown outlaw…” needs to be changed to “The renowned outlaw…”
In the epilogue I spotted a small mistake “…considered that this this Marshal kept promises…”
I still think that Carraway needs more to say in Chapter 2 if you choose to go drinking with her.
Stats for this run were:

@MIGhunter - I thought that might happen. I have to test the new checkpoint save system and that required disabling CJW’s save routines. I’ll put the old one up again after the testing is complete.
@Bloodwyche I’ll look into those errors soon. Almost fainted when I accidentally shifted chapter nine’s checkpoint save into Chapter nine and obliterated 900k of work. Thank God for multiple back ups.
Only a twenty-seven notoriety on a low law and order character? Interesting.
“Unless the next batch of testing goes horribly awry, I am planning on submitting the Tin-Star files to Choice of Games either late tomorrow or early Wednesday.”
At last, the end is nigh! 8->
@AllenGies
Some items I ran across for your review:
Chap 2: asking about the town
That’s enough for now, Dan, thanks."
***Q: But I never asked him if I could call him Dan yet, that comes later.
With that she moves in for a little kiss before you both have to return to the ride. Dan steps around Carrie, submerges a water-skin into the pool and it fills right up. Without pause he hands it to the others coming up, keeps them from muddying up the waters straight away.
"You are always so worried about others…
“No stories this time?”
Listen.
***Q: Dan was killed by Carrie earlier when he tried to kill me for breaking up with him.
You return to your office and find Regina sitting straight backed atop the bed in her cell, hands clasped before her and eyes closed as if she were napping. Her dark dress has wrinkled badly at the hem and from the edges have gone shiny where her fingers have plucked at it too many times. “Well?” She asks as you approach the bars that separates her from freedom. In the cell opposite her, Reginald pretends to sleep.
***Q: Regina was shot by Preston to protect me…I went to talk to Reginald who I still had in the jail.
You make it quick. Dan lies on the ground, unmoving. Amid swirls of thick gun-smoke, a figure strides near. Carrie strides past the wounded and fallen alike, her glower fit to burst into flames as she fixes it upon you. In both her hands she holds readied pistols. She hardly even seems to notice the fact that you are riding an immense bear.
***Q: I was not on the bear anymore. The bear had thrown me because it saw Dan, I fought Dan & then Carrie came to fight me.
With the train captured and the Uptons plan foiled, you spend several days picking up the pieces. Mister Hayworth in particular has praise for how you handled a potentially explosive situation. Afterward, things return to normal.
***Q: What about Dan’s grave injuries that he sustained during the fight? He thought he was going to die, it was that bad. Can something be added about his recovery?
**Q: I chose the option: “I get the feeling you have something important to tell me” then next thing I know Yiska is pissed?!
The Shoshone warriors behind Yiska shift uneasily, having gotten the gist of things. Thankfully, they seem content to let the impending battle be between the two of you. “Is this it?” Yiska asks, brings the tip of the elaborate war-spear up. “Is this how it must be?”
Dan dismounts, grabs a shovel and begins to vigorously dig a grave.
"You are always so worried about others.
“No stories this time?”
Listen.
“I still haven’t figured out how to tell this tale.” He says softly. He digs and digs until the graves are made. The bodies fill them completely.
**Q: Im in a relationship with him…seems a bit cold. Can I help him dig the graves? Put a hand on his shoulder or something?
With the rail-head in flames, you spend the next several days riding west back to California with the Uptons. The crossing of the Sierra Nevada proves difficult to say the least. Carrie sits down beside you at the end of the day, lays a hand on you shoulder. “So… we’re to New York?”
***Q: Is the order of these sentences correct? Should the sentence about Carrie be 1st?
It is a long ride back. The ride back to Preston Springs is a brief one. Carson is quiet as usual, barely says a word at supper and prods at the embers of the cook-fire a long while afterward.
***Q: That was the longest briefest ride back to Preston Springs ever! : )
You are eventually taken before a judge to hear your plea. A quick run-down on the sins of the Uptons is all you need to be let off the hook for murder. Your forceful recollection of the sins of the Uptons lets you off the hook for murder. Your dogged repetition of the sins of the Uptons is what you need to be let off the hook for murder.
***Q: Did you mean this to be a forceful, dogged, quick run-down? : )
Epilogue:
Marshal Temple killed Dan Schmidt during the Golden Stagecoach incident. It certainly wasn’t how Schmidt had thought he would die.
***Q: He died when he tried to kill me after the railway scene.
Known for being a Marshal who possessed an iron fist in a kid-glove, Helen Lamb stayed on the Frontier as a Marshal with an Indian lawyer named Yiska and a fierce gunslinger called Miss Caraway. It was a tempestuous arrangement that often times filled the air with more than mere words. Miss Caraway lived as she always had, traversing the distance from bottle to cards to dealing in lead on many an occasion.
***Q: But she actually died when Regina came to attack Preston Springs.
***Later in the same Epilogue it says: Miss Caraway Hartigan died defending Preston Springs from you and your band of bandits. I was not the bandit, I was protecting Preston Springs from Regina & her bandits.
As expected, the match brought forth children and dollars in abundance and, to everyone’s surprise, it gave forth love in equal measure. In time Reginald would supplant his father and, with his exemplary wife, would dominate the California political scene for many decades. *The Marshal took a different name, owing to complications back in Lander County and the charges that would no doubt stem from it. Even so, she was able to discretely reacquire a particular parcel of land and eventually settle back into it as if they had never truly left.
*Q: Should the information about me taking a different name & settling back onto my land by tweaked since I actually married Reginald?
With the arrest of the Elder Upton, the man who had ordered his brother’s assassination, Marshal Simon James returned to California with his wife Julie Moore. There he watched the trial proceed and when it concluded, the pair settled down and were happy to live and love in full.
***Q: Epilogue previously said that Upton died the day before the trial.
@CJW -Yep. Very close now. Time for only one last round of fixes.
@piggleywinks -Excellent notes. You are most definitely back.
Okay, the old save system should be back now. Hopefully without much deleted data.

Lil Idea for an Easter Egg.
If you write -don’t make it too clear and put it on the given names list!- the name ‘‘Allen Gies’’, a note will appear on the legend screen after finishing that game, saying smth like ‘‘There are no Easter Eggs, go away!’’… Just an example, been playing GTA San Andreas lately…
J.
@JackHerge -Testing should continue. The final product has not been frozen by any means.
And putting in an Easter Egg? It would be amusing.
Tin-Star has been submitted to Choice of Games. I hope they like what they see. My only worry is that the game is too long and large. At over ten megs of content (Roughly eight times larger than ‘Apex Patrol’ and thirty times larger than ‘Marine Raider’, there might be some issues there.
Ah crap, I think I screwed up something on the index file. Hold on.

@AllenGies
Hi! I just tried to start playing some more & the dropbox link is all coding…not the actual game play…help?
Hold on piggleywinks. I somehow screwed things up when doing a final update to drop box. Sigh.
Okay. Fixed it. I copied over a new choicescript file then went back to the advice that CJW originally gave me for putting in his save system and went through the routine again. It is to his credit that I, bleary eyed and a year away from last altering those files, managed to put things back together.
There seems to be a bug with the new upload. Every time I try to play I get this message: (Error message - line 1: Non-existent command ‘sm_init’)
I think this should be released with in-app purchases; its too big to release at once. Sort of like the Zombie Exodus model, maybe; a free download and a free game up to maybe chapter 2, or just chapter 1. Then you buy each chapter for a certain price, lets say a dollar.
Because releasing it in one purchase won’t get much revenue; its worth far more than the average CoG. If you set a higher price, less people would buy it.
But if you make a series of in-app purchases to unlock the next chapter… Maybe you’d get more out of this.
@Bloodwyche - Yep, I was in the middle of fixing the files. They should in fact be fixed now.
@Wyrmspawn -That is an interesting idea. I haven’t yet spoken to anyone at COG about this, the game hasn’t been accepted yet, but it is certainly something to keep in mind.
The purist in me just wants to sell it all for two dollars and damn the relative losses, trusting to word of mouth and ratings to drive up sales until that balanced things out. But the realist in me understands that digital adventures are something of a niche market. After all, if two thousand people downloaded ‘Apex Patrol’ this month then I wouldn’t be worried about getting my car fixed.
Thanks, AllenGies, it is fixed & I am back to gameplay. All is right in the world now.
