Tin Star testing

Thanks for putting me up in the epilogue, it was my pleasure to playtest for you. This game is truly epic in scope and I loved every moment of it. Looking forward to getting this when it is released.

@AllenGies

After the MC has asked first Carson and then Schmit about the town, shouldn’t the option to ask Carson be removed?

I still think that if you choose “If by ready you mean still a little drunk, then yeah.”, then Carraway should be given some comment both on this remark and on whatever option you choose in the responses that follows, after you shoot Jack and if you choose the “Take it easy” option after speaking with Preston, perhaps something along the lines of "“Easy? I’ll be drinking hard, and maybe you should too…” with some further comment on the MCs shooting prowess.

Ditto if the MC has chosen “Certainly” then Preston should comment on it as well.

Still have not played all the way through yet.

I’m hoping this one remains free for online play.

@AllenGies

I sure did! Been trying to see if I can sing it to the usual track from any old western openings. X3 {I’m failing but that is mostly because I can’t sing.} I think it turn out pretty good! I think it was a fun addition to everything else.

Oh and I agree, I did the ending again just to make the elder upton invest in the town, and the fact that the town survives to the present day as a city of industry warms the cockles of my heart, it also kind of makes we want to do a playthrough in which Doc Kang did kill that upton, just for the delicious irony.

So what happens if you have Upton buy mexico for you or help Yiska anyway?

You know, what the modern city needs is a statue of the Marshall, shouldn’t the marshall still be helping the city by making it a tourist attraction? It’s the birthplace of a legend, figuratively speaking.

Oh and if you are dating Maria, isn’t it supposed to be on the downlow? Is Maria really that bad a spy that everyone knows about them? Especially if you’re dating someone else.

Now I’m picturing a Walker Texas Ranger kind of spin off about the modern day descendant or relative of the Marshall following the family business.

Huh, I’d actually hate to see this released for free. For all the time and effort he’s put into it, I’d pay upwards of $5-10 for this.

@stsword ; Marshal’s Creed II: Revelations :wink:

Also that’d be awesome, if depending on your legend score, Preston Springs actually rises or falls due to tourism. If your Marshal is a nobody, Preston Springs has nothing to offer and dies like all the boomtowns. If he’s a legend, it has a period of depression but eventually recovers due to hightened interest in the tales of the Marshal

@djma46 -Ah, I found out what was the matter. I’d accidentally created a loop. That should be fixed now. Glad you saw it.

@stsword -I felt that Maria would never marry quickly, whether because of her dead husband or the situation in Mexico. Love, yes, marry… that could take a little while. Did it feel appropriate? You certainly did some interesting reading between the lines for that part of the epilogue.

As for everyone in the town knowing about the MC and Maria, it is a very small town. Someone always sees something and comments on it. Even if you weren’t interested in her, people would probably be spreading rumors to that effect anyway.

And a modern day spin-off would be entertaining. Dukes of Hazard-like… ‘The Barons of Preston Springs’ or ‘Counts of Lander County’? Sam Pitcavages grandson as deputy. Matthew’s as well. Maybe have Old Schmidt show up without having aged a day just to scare the crap out of people.

@VoodooDolly - That is a good point about the Butler. I’d originally had him kill himself after Upton suffers a heart attack because I was tired and punchy. This happens to writers and minor characters shouldn’t jog their elbow sometimes. I’ve changed it up and the next update will give you the choice between letting him go and letting him live.

@Nasdaxow - Good catches there. About the lions, I’ve added a bit more than every character will probably run into now. I don’t feel that Marshal James would reveal things early though, especially not in chapter one. “Hey, you’re gonna be a Marshal. Incidentally, the relatives of that person you killed may drop in on you and bring along a pair of ravenous lions so… good luck and don’t just ride off into the wilderness now.” Indeed, he had a plan for neutralizing those lions, thought it had worked but was mistaken. His not mentioning it was an oversight on his part which he may well admit to later on.

@SamuraiMantis - Ah, I had forgotten to include Richard Hartigan! I’ll rectify that soon. Glad you noted that.

@RoseQueenKamijo -Hmm, a save slot swap… The actual guts of the save system are a bit of a black box to me. CJW came up with it and it is wholly his creation. I may not be able to use the save system as things stand anyway, I’m checking on some alternative code and how checkpoints might have to be modified.

@Bloodwyche -Good points. Clearly I’ve got to wrestle with Chapter 2 a little more. Certainly getting smashed with Miss Caraway would bring forward a few comments from Preston at the very least. Something witty certainly. And witty phrases deserve witty responses.

@AllenGies I enjoy the game and looking forward to the updates. I can see myself paying for it because of the amount of hard work and content you put into it make’s it feel that we are in the game.

The idea of a modern version of the game would be interesting and would be fun to see what we can do and get away with.

Heh, funny you mentioned an immortal Shmidt, I was just thinking about a tin star: deadlands edition.

Anyone here a deadlands fan? It’s a pulpy wild west setting with supernatural horror elements: werewolves, vampires, cinematic martial arts, shamans, card sharks casting spells by beating demons at poker, voodoo priests, zombies, steampunk cyborgs, blood magicians, and that’s just what you can play in addition to just normal wild west types, what you fight is a much bigger list…

@AllebGies I’m not sure if I’ve just missed this but is there an epilogue for Wong Dai Choi? Because he is a minor character and I would be quite interested as to what happened to him. :slight_smile:
Well done with this, I can’t believe it’s so close to finishing! This is a really amazing story anyway you play it. I’m going that there are sequels of sorts. :stuck_out_tongue:

*@AllenGies ^^

@AllenGies:
Thank you very much for the personal acknowledgement in the Credits! *Virtual High Five* :wink:
Life has handed me some lemons recently hence my silence.
I am back now and started playing again yesterday in earnest to help you with any final clean-ups.
Loving the wrap ups in chap ten and epilogue.
Even after playing the game so much, I still enjoy it which is a testament to your talent. The force is strong with you!

Future generations will look at this day, and remember what was said, simply due to it’s absolute importance to the world as a whole… Akin to “Houston, the Eagle has landed.”,

“Tin-Star has been submitted to Choice of Games.”

@Dude - Thank you. I did put over a year of time into this and I am glad that it seems to show. Hmm… a modern version could just be a one or two scene piece. A little call back to things while also being a stand-all adventure. Maybe involving lost gold from a run of the golden stagecoach. That sort of wealth would be enough to put people into motion.

I might even determine the world by allowing the MC to select the particular legend that surrounds said gold at the beginning of the tale. An honorable/dishonorable/ordinary Marshal once drove a stagecoach full of gold toward Utah. He/She/the Marshal/The Doc safely/barely/never reached that destination. Rumors of unbelievable-heroism/muddling-through/utter-corruption followed afterward but one thing everyone knows is that the-second-stagecoach-wasn’t-so-lucky/only-half-the-gold-got-through/ it-was-all-lost-somewhere-out-in-the-desert.

@stsword -I have friends who play Deadlands but have never played it myself. It always sounded fun though.

@kitty -Wong Dai Choi! How could I have forgotten him. :slight_smile: And he has an easy epilogue too.

@piggleywinks -You are welcome *virtual High Five returned*. I hope those lemons of yours don’t stick around or at least can fit in a food-processor. I’m also looking forward to what you find in your play-through.

Now then, I’ve got another mini-update but with a twist. I’ve altered the stat-screen to allow for Apex Patrol style story-stats. I couldn’t do a one-for-one as I did then (Even I’m not crazy enough to shade a hundred entries or so for each skill or relationship) but there should still be a ten-to-one or five-to-one variation to each explanation.

@AllenGies Yay! I’m so glad, I think I’m going to play through all over again just to read it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Say, AllanGies, is it possible to update your first post with the new URL for your game? As a new reader to your game it took some fairly extensive poking around to find the new link. I think it would be a kindness to any other new readers to pop the link to the dropbox version of your game in the first post!

Just hit what may be a major bug with the new stats system. The MC had just been to Echo Canyon and agreed to join the Hartigan gang when I chose to view the stats in story form. I got an initial error message that I forgot to note down (Sorry) and then the game started looping with this message being displayed each time:

‘Component returned failure code 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE)[nslDOMLocation.href]’

Was able to restart the stats process and the first message was:

'line 953: Non-existent variable ‘hartigan_outcome_chapter_7’

Liked Prestons remark in Chapter 2, looking forward to reading Carraways comments when you finish them.

good evening citizens of the tin star thread I have been on a long journey I have been gone for 40 days and 40 nights. Twas biblical but since I have been gone so long and there are way to many post on the thread since I’ve been gone could someone please bring me up to speed? :smiley:

@TheCourier AllenGies has very nearly finished this epic saga. That’s basically it. :slight_smile: Play through the whole thing to fully catch up. :stuck_out_tongue:

@Kitty9 thank you for summing that up I have restarted my previous game and am going to see how far this great title has progressed. :slight_smile:
