Tin Star testing

Mistylavenda- Brawling it is then. I’ve added a Chinese option to the beginning, but there isn’t much that is affected by it yet. That will come though, to what degree I don’t rightly know.

what are the triats you can get if you don’t mind me asking

First of all, thanks lolli04 for noting that typo. Apparently when I start writing, the quotation marks start flying.

817819- Right now, the traits a character can have are Stoic, Religious, Lawyer or Doctor, Chinese (Though it is not really fleshed out yet) and one other that I’m not certain anyone has stumbled upon yet. Eventually Heartless will be added, and also Indian ancestry.

Now, an update on Chapter 3 progress. Using notepad++ and a calculator, I’ve managed to ferret out an algorithm to transpose the line numbering systems from Autotest to Notepad++. (I dare not shift the actual program out of standard notepad for fear of having to reformat everything) and it works well enough (On average the result is only off by eight hundred or so lines at a time) that chapter 3 will be ready to Beta test by Tuesday at the latest.

@AllenGies
Another suggestion for the traits a character can have is perhaps Heroic(being a person who always wants to do the right thing or cares about doing the right thing and also has (high)moral values(doesn’t mean their opposed to drinking, gambling, ect), because in my case, idk about other ppl, I always try to make my characters as heroic as possible in any way i can with games and stuff.

But I also have another question/suggestions, can the players character have more than one trait? Will the player be able to purse romance with npcs met in the game? if not make it so, if it is possible then could you make several romance partners? (say each coming from a different background so as to make them unique individuals)

Could you add a section, that shows how much favor(how much each npc likes/dislikes the player) the player has with each companion, the most important npcs, and each major fraction(for example the Indian tribe mentioned(that is if they play a role in the game), to the stat box if you wouldn’t mind that is.

How long do you intend to make this game? If its several chapters long do you think you could extend the demos length?(i just like the game so much that i want to play more of it
Great game so far.

Before I reply to Cloudian, the chapter 3 beta is ready. There are spacing problems I discovered during play, but I know I can’t fix them all and still release on schedule. So, just make a note of it along with other troubles as you find them.

This one is a bit longer and more sprawling than before. As I’ve said previously, I let it get away from me a little. Still, enjoy.

Cloudian- A heroic trait is presently covered by the honor stat. Doing the right thing over being Arbitrary (self-serving) in your decisions. I haven’t put in any forks or diversions due Law, Order and Honor (or their shadow traits for that matter, Individuality, Freedom and Arbitrary) but that will come.

Players can certainly have more than one trait.

Romance. Yes, I planned in an aspect of Romance. There are or will be four possible partners, but that may changed if the programming gets too crazy. There is presently burly Dan Schmidt and deadly Miss Caraway. Two other characters will be met later (Actually, one appears in Chapter 3) who are not regular companions but can be wooed.

Character influence. Yeah, I’ve been putting off changing the stat screen to indicate what your influence levels are with certain people. Right now there are your three companions (Caraway, Schmidt, Carson), two of the primary movers of factions in the area (JT. Preston and an Indian you meet during Chapter 3), as well as Marshal James from Chapter one.

Here’s a question back… do you want a notification of some sort each time influence is gained or lost with a character, or is that too intrusive?

Right now I have imagined seven or eight chapters for this game. However, it would be easy to add in chapters after I finish the main arc… but either way there is a lot of work ahead. Remember; I’m just one guy pecking on a keyboard in his bedroom.

It’s still looping around in Ch. 2 when you capture Caraway and bring her back to the Marshal’s office.

It ended in the same place

Haha i love Carson and Schmidt’s banter
But i’ve noticed, it makes you repeat finding the marshall office if you fix it up first, then meat Prosper or whatever he’s called, then deal with the saloon lady. Then i have to go through everything again

P.S. Im terrible with names sorry

Plus what is chapter 3 consist of? It doesnt appear longer to me

Because we haven’t seen it yet…
I think at least

Yep. sorry about that. I shoved the update in the wrong file, the beta-test file instead of the public one via dropbox, and went to sleep. I tested the link above and it appears to have the correct file now.

Okay so if i choose engineering as the thing im fair at it doesnt change it…

This particular script triggers an endless repeat on a single page.

Script: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/89217689/web/scene.js:2355

"Ben Carson sighs and pats his steed. “Now that we’re done here, David’ll be moving the herd along a difficult stretch and I had best get back with him and the others out of Big Bell.”

He ponders you a moment. “I can’t say I’ll enjoy telling him about the dam, and those that died there. That sort of blood always begets more. I can only be thankful that you are a good friend to find a path through these trials.”

He doffs his hat and rides away.

This repeats endlessly until I kill the script.

Another note: When picking Chinese names, Sam. and Wong. (last names) shouldn’t have periods after them.

great story so farr and the wrap up at the end was really cool

Another oops:

When you bring Terry up to the camp:

Terry guides you toward a homey little cabin all but wreathed by beds of flowers.

The door to it opens and a tall fella with a cap of golden hair lumbers out. Just behind him emerges a woman, her curled tresses vibrant as she hurries up alongside the man. From the way they linger close and fall into step with accustomed ease, they are very clearly close if not married.

“Who this?” The Tall man asks Terry.

“Oh, this is Helen {last_name}. She’s a Marshal.”

I didn’t know that Helen Adams was called Helen {last_name}. And I’d think I’d know my own character’s name.

And on another playthrough: Is Heartless not yet implemented? And whether or not it is…there probably should be some consequence down the road for being involved in the Red Ribbon Massacre.

Looped again. After calling Caraway a fierce Tigress:

“Yeah.” Miss Caraway says with an honest smile. “Exactly that.”

In but a few moments she finishes with her hair and does in fact look boyish enough to pass.

The mining site is a wonder to behold. Enormous streams of water rip away away a hill side, expose rocks and soil to the sun that might never have seen the light of day. The wash of mud and gravel sluices down through stretches of screens that steadily shift out the lighter rocks, leave only the heaviest, like gold and silver, behind.

As you draw close, Miss Caraway takes a moment to bind and slip her hair up into her floppy brimmed hat. “There’ll be fewer questions if I look more like a young fella and not…”

Raven- I looked at the code and ran it through myself because strange things do happen when you actually run the program. Engineering seems to check out though. It starts at ten and works its way up pretty slow since it is a specialized skill. Do you get a float of (Engineering increased) when you tried it or was it blank?

Daltonking- Thank you. I’m glad you liked the chapter 3 wrap up. Was there anything in particular you enjoyed about it? I like to repeat success when possible.

Ramidel- Thank you for spotting the horrible endless loops. I miss one change to a variable, and the whole game get thrown… Anyway, that should be fixed now.

As are the periods I, for some reason, placed on certain Chinese names.

Also, I added a $ in front of {Last_name} so that it actually works.

Working on the Caraway loop right now… {Edit} Caraway loop solved. A tricky one because that bit of dialogue apparently appears four times in chapter 3. I probably should have cut that down, but oh well, it is written, and more importantly fixed, as of now.

It told me engineering incresed but was still 10, in another playthrough where i chose explosives it went 12 so i thought that was odd

@AllenGies my favorite part of the wrap up the part where it adds up your legend score and says like your name stuck on peoples tongues but historians knew the whole story or your name was well heard and everyone knew it
