@AllenGies Not even if I ask nicely?
trollhunterthethird- We’ll see what I can do when the plot shifts to New York.

This is a a mini-update. The previously indicated typos, bugs, etc, have hopefully been fixed (The ‘lit by unlit candles’ was my favorite). A very little content has been added in places. However, there are no pianos for mice yet, nor guitars for cats or accordions for snakes.
Wait, we can adopt snakes?
First, just like to say, amazing game. There is only really one issue I have, and that is that you have the 1858 Remington new army listed as a Pietta. Correct me if i’m wrong but I’m pretty sure Pietta is a company started in the 1960’s the reproduces black powder revolvers as well as cartridge conversions to cater to the cowboy type gun owners. Also, don’t know if it ever comes up, but '58 Remingtons could be carried with six shots instead of five due to safety slots in between the nipples that eliminated the threat of accidental fire. That coupled with the easy cylinder change and high accuracy made the Remington a very good weapon. I know it’s a little late to bring this stuff up but in games a tiny little wrong detail can keep me from really playing the game the way it was meant to be played. Which is the reason I… am not a fan of the Call of Duty franchise. Bit of a ramble but this is no matter what one of if not my favorite game on the site.
Mr_Wols- Thank you. The Pietta model is a mistake on my part. Pietta does the reproductions of the 1858 model, which was wholly a Remington affair. Apparently my research into the period firearms was inadequate. I had really just wanted something other than basic handguns without identifying characteristics and so had not delved deeper into the story behind the pistol itself. (Though I did read about the Colt factory fire in 1864’. Sadly, there was no way to work that bit into things… though Godfrey might have known a few machinists who worked there.)
This is the very reason that Beta testing is needed. I wouldn’t have caught the error on my own; there is just too much else to do.
Now to fix all that up. Thankfully, ‘Pietta’ stands out in a document search. I’ll include it in the next update.
Anything else stand out to you?
Well… I don’t have a lot of time on my hands so i can’t really sit here and dig through the game but I remember that bears are notoriously hard to kill. Very thick skulls. Also at that point in people liked to use conical bullets with paper cartridges to speed the reloading process instead of the ordinary ball and powder. Safer too. This stuff might not really matter but without playing through the game again I can’t really come up with anything. Might remember something later or find time to play. Maybe.
I decide to attack in preston spring
now i’m getting excited. Wait does that mean i will become criminal, Or Something?
Mr.Wols- I understand. I merely wished to know whether anything leaped out at you in regards to the fire-arm accuracy. The conical bullets, for example, are new to me. I would think those would have trouble with rifling, but smooth-bores would be a different matter.
Kitty- Well, choosing to attack Preston Springs is the Renegade route… but it is only illegal if they catch you, right?
Then they better not!
hah i would be living Two life. Marshal in daylight and secretly criminal
Something I’ve been meaning to ask for a while: Sometimes I get only 5 choices for an American name, but other times I get a lot more, about twelve or so. Is this intended, and if yes, what triggers it?
@Wyrmspawn not definitively choosing to be male or female, I believe. Marshal or Doc will trigger the fewer-names selection.
@AllenGies: some items for consideration:
The lead rider maneuvers his steed forward, shows empty empty palms as he gives you an honest nod. “Greetings Marshal. I hadn’t expected to find you in Preston Springs, but that is provident all the same. I am Bishop Hancock and Albion Springs is part of my ward.”
“Wait, you know who I am?”
“I’d like to talk about Andy Smith.”
“What exactly did Andy have to say?”
“I would like to talk a little more, if there is time.”
Talk further with the Bishop.
(*Q:I didn’t bother staying and listening to Franks story so I didn’t know about Andy)
Frank does just that, settles in and sets the reins somberly in hand. “What’ve you heard about Andy? Did he make it?”
“No.”
“Hell no. He was done for.”
“He was pulling through last I heard.” [Lie]
(*Q: I didn’t bother talking to Bishop about Andy so I don’t know if he is alive or not)
A couple of evenings with your Smith and Wesson model one firing off plenty of those new-fangled bullets, makes you confident of drawing and hitting your target without pause. It is just like Miss Caraway said, accuracy first because otherwise why’d you bother to draw your gun at all?
(*Q: I killed her in the Mother Lode, so she never said this to me.)
Marshal James settles back by a narrow seam of sunlight that flickers through a warp in the wall, gives you a little nod. “Glad to hear your affirmation. I might seem a mite hard, and I am,but I ain’t flickin’ my whip solely on account of needing a tin star out in Lander County. You remember who you killed? That deed what got you here?”
“I did not kill that man.”
“I did not kill that woman.”
“I killed that man only because he would have killed me first.”
“I killed that woman only because she would have killed me first.”
“Yeah, I remember that guy.”
“Yeah, I recall that gal.”(*Chose this one.)
“Murder will do that. Fixes a face in the mind, and not just yours either. All the kin and every friend that man (*should be woman based on option I chose above)had will be looking to shimmy a little revenge in their own way. Everything you hold dear is in peril unless someone intervenes.”
(*Q: curious Why didn’t my murder of Denny come up when I met the lead guy of C.P railroad?)
Your slaying of the lead drover for the Central Pacific railroad is an oft repeated tail of warning told and retold to the rail-men of California. Two legend points earned.
“I wonder if I lost him as a client.” Yiska asks the air. “I imagine we’ll see when I tender him today’s bill for services rendered. Shall we walk? I have been inside all day.”
With things sorted out, Yiska falls into an ambling step beside you. “Shall we walk? I am tired of sitting.”
(*Q: duplicate info from Yiska asking MC to walk.)
(*Q: After flood, MC is walking with Yiska AND Preston…MC is in relationship with Yiska but MC then kisses Preston…how does Yiska not see this happen if we were all walking together? After kissing Preston and him walking away, Yiska is now there…I am trying to understand how the episode with Preston is only seen by the deputies? Where did Yiska and everyone else go?)
Together with Preston and Yiska, you take a victory walk back to town.
Preston swaggers over, a lit cigar in hand. “Well done, Miss. The town, my town, is going to be just fine.”
“I get you. Oh yes I do.” Preston agrees. “Trouble is, I know you’ve been seeing Yiska as a little more than a client. That makes things a legal snarl for me, so I need you to fix that.” That said, Preston then settles the crumpled hat atop his head and staggers off.
“Well, this was good work and an excuse to leave the office behind for a little while.” Yiska remarks.
“Yes, lets.” Hartigan agrees. “How do you want to play this?”
“How do you want to play this Marshal?” Hartigan asks.
(*Q: double statement here.)
(*Q: Schmidt said he wasnt hungry but then it talks about him eating.)
Preston glances behind you, spies Old Schmidt. “Of course, I could make an exception for Mister Schmidt. As a former candidate for Sheriff, I bear him no ill will. Indeed, so long as he remembers what a fork is for, he would be welcome in the Babylon.”
“I ain’t hungry.” Old Schmidt replies flatly.
Preston looks to you expectantly as he offers both a hand and a seat.
Schmidt looks up from what is left of his bacon and hash. "Better you than me, JT.
“I felt the same way. Alas, I did not have the option of refusal.” Preston replies.
“Dealt with? I hear cards when you say it like that. But yes, you sent him off for reasons I don’t fully understand.” Preston notes.
(Q: I didn’t send actually send him off…I went outback like a coward and he just got tired of waiting).
Preston reaches into a vest pocket, pulls out a tin Sheriff’s star, one not so different from the kind you yourself wear. He sets it on the ‘table’, taps one edge of it and sends it spinning.
The badge clatters to a halt upon the ‘table’.
(*Q: But I was at the bar and he came over to me so shouldn’t this be "bar’ instead of “table”?)
“I’ve got plenty to keep me occupied.” Hartigan says, “plenty that doesn’t involve licking the boots of paper-collared easterners.”
“Morning Richard.”
“I’m going to see the boss. Want to come along?” (*this option stays even after choosing)
“One last thing…”
Motion for him to return to work.
“It is wonderful.” She says, sets a finger-tip atop the pommel and gently rocks the entire rig back and forth. “I had not thought… thank you. I shall treasure it whenever I ride.” (*Q: Then next paragraph is about chess…missing some kind of transition here.)
The chess board is a simple affair, single piece oak painted with black squares to form the board. The pieces are carved of local granite from the mountains and done to such intricate detail that you can see the features of the horses and sharp tips of the royal crowns. “Do you know the game of chess?” Maria asks as she takes up two pawns, one white and another black, curls her fingers about each to hide their color. Carlos continues to stare out the window, seemingly oblivious to anything else.
Yiska points to a shattered tree trunk. “Landslide. A whole grove of trees must have come down up in the mountains. That could be enough to block the river.”
A glance up river finds storm clouds dancing atop distant mountains whose slopes will sluice down those waters into the river. If the dam breaks,(*Q: But the dam was already destroyed earlier with Red Ribbon Mining scene) there will be a flood. Preston Springs might well be wiped out.
Q: If MC is in relationship with Preston, Why doesn’t he say goodbye before you head to C.P. railway? Is that just not “his way”? (His greeting to the MC at the railway is cute though.)
Q: If MC is in relationship with Preston, Why doesn’t he say goodbye before you head to C.P. railway? Is that just not “his way”? (His greeting to the MC at the railway is cute though.)
That’s odd, I did get that scene. He walks out of the hotel and takes the MC’s hand, I believe, in a silent goodbye.
Talking about railway greetings, Preston’s is cute, but Yiska’s is my favourite. It was so sweet when the MC had the chance to run and just tackle-hug Yiska.
@VoodooDolly:
That is odd…I will have to play that scenario again and see if I get that now.
I loved the scene with Yiska too…did you tell him: “That was fast!” His reply had me laughing outloud!
@AllenGies:
I found where you gave us Preston’s first/middle name…nice one! I will not spoil for others.
How to attack preston springs ?
Yes, his reply was hilarious! He’s so sweet, he’ll try to last during the night, ha.
I didn’t find Preston’s first/middle name. I’ll see if I can do it now.
@bezment78
You have to side with Regina, Snake, and Reginald, picking the option of going after the Uptons directly instead of protecting the rail-road during your conversation with Julie and James; pick the option “go see Regina and Reginald” (or something like that), so you go in friendly terms and not to attack them. You’ll find Hungry Snake waiting for you, don’t shoot at him, I didn’t do it and I don’t know if this works with him dead. When you speak to Reginald, pick the option with the MC’s confession of the murder of Reginald’s family member. My MC has high Gunfighting, so I suppose that is necessary to kill Reginald, but I don’t really know. After the MC kills Reginald, talk to the bandits and order them to follow you to Preston Springs to make chaos. And that’s it, I think.
The first thing that came to my mind when I saw The Lone Ranger trailer was this game.
piggleywinks- Lots of considerations there. I had forgotten that it was possible to slide through things without knowing Andy or Frank. Kind of like skipping a cut-scene. I’ll have to figure out how to mark those optional portions or else put in a bit of dialogue elsewhere to make the offered choices fit.
The other items should be easier to fix. Thanks.
