Haha, not a problem. It’s an aesthetic thing more than anything.
The system does have custom errors though, so it’s fairly ‘play-around’ friendly.
J.T is a love interest? Hm, funny, nothing ever indicated me that I could pursue him in a romantic relationship. On the other hand, I did steal the town’s gold… Yeah, I can see why he wouldn’t want my Marshal, ha.
At the moment, I read two encounters:
- Caraway and Yiska.
- Caraway, María, Yiska.
If I get time today, I’ll try to see the others. The ones I experienced were amazingly hilarious. Pardon me for my language, but the second one was a “Holy shit!” moment; I thought Carrie was going to shoot my teeth out of my mouth. The first one was great, and it ended with my Marshal and Caraway getting together after Yiska’s refusal to the polyamorous relationship. Something told me that the polyamorous relationship can be achieved, so I’ll attempt to make it happen.
Oh, and something I forgot to add before: I love that the PC can sign copies of books about their adventures. It is a nice touch, like the legend score.
@VoodooDolly
-WARNING might be sort of spoiler for those that haven’t got to chap 6-
After you defend against the flood, you talk to JT there is an option to confront him, and when you do there is an option for you to slap him, or let him slap you then you slap back, that’s how you start it. XD I still got it even after making a deal with Herrington.
is that it? that undertaker lady just walked up to my door and nothing happened!
Oh, I see! I have to say it is very funny. I never picked that option because I was attempting to be polite and not going after pointless conflict. I have to say, the placement of Preston’s romance is just perfect. Slap Slap Kiss relationship taken to the literal level, ha. I can imagine the town watching, flabbergasted by it.
A mistake I caught along the way: “The kiss is a powerful thing that that obliterates all thought as anger burns up into something else.”Also, there are quotation marks on the option to talk to Julie, but it is not a dialogue, during the last interlude.
I managed to get all the romanceable characters in the same room. Don’t hate the player, hate the game, ha.
I cannot express how much I adore the snark, one of my favourite lines is: “Neither did my father, but he is proud nonetheless”.
It’ll be interesting to see what the outcome of the polyamorous relationship between Caraway, Yiska, and the Marshal will be.
@VoodooDolly
You know they are, they are first like “Oh crap our peaceful city is doom! The sherif and Marshal are gonna kill each other!” *watches the two suddenly latch on to eachother.* O___O; “Whaaaa?!”
XD It just totally fits him though. Couldn’t picture him and the MC getting together any other way.
@AllenGies The names that you pick add points to some skills right? if they do could you PM me a list of what name does what? or you could post it here for everyone to see?
Absolutely. The hat on the floor was a thing I missed the first time, blame my eager fingers that click the options without me reading first, and I actually laughed when I read for the first time.
Tin Star is the perfect mix of action, adventure, suspense, humour, and romance. You can tell, as a player, that there is thought and feeling on this game.
Other stuff:
Preston gives a low chuckle that a wolf pondering a mouse - I believe it is supposed to be: “Preston gives a low chuckle that of a wolf…”
"Yeah, well. Some things need doing. “Yeah, well, I got the feeling I had to be here. And so I was.” - Repeated line and extra quotation marks?
I’m sure I missed some, I’ll keep an open next time I play it.
i found an error! the character you meet in the raider camp called little boots and if you recommended him another job he is male but when you review your legend score telling you were he went after you did that little boots is female all of a sudden!!
@AllenGies love this game!
think I found a typo when meeting up with the hartigan gang. Carraway:“My doctor.” She hisses out, gives a little hope and leans against the tent pole. “You did this to me, with your inept bandage, your callous wiles and your cruel disposition.” I think that should be hop instead of hope.
“Just shoot him.” Hartigan says to her, “nothing is gonna bring back your leg.” But i was playing as a female so should that be shoot her instead of him?
When meeting Denny, think there is a typo:
“Indian country. Washoe and worse.” Denny considers. “Desert too. Not a lot out for a lady like you.” Should that be “out there”?
@hahaha01357 she is one of my favs too so it was really hard to do that to her. Trying to get a real feel for all the options no matter how much I like the characters.
@AllenGies
Possible typo : “Now, this other little fact happened some time back. But when Marshal James is buried… the coffin ain’t there anymore.” Should that be “where marshal james” instead of “when”?
VoodooDolly- You are enjoying the romantic tangles? Good. I was worried they weren’t deep enough.
As for the more-than-two-romances scene, you felt it played out well? I had to try and write it for up to five romantic interests and still have the text flow naturally. I would very much like to know if I pulled it off for three romances, for four and lastly for all five, and if not, how I can improve upon it.
On a similar note, thanks for noting the typos. Every single one you find makes the game better.
bocoom-I’m still writing chapter 8, so, yes, there is more coming.
And good catch on Little Boots. She’s a woman passing as a man, but it is possible not to find out about that until the wrap-up. I’ll change that accordingly so players won’t get confused.
AngelOfTheBroken- I can’t take full credit for the Preston Romance. Roslyn_samalt06 and MaraJade put me onto it and, following some of their advice, it appears to have worked out pretty well.
piggleywinks- Ah, more typos. Excellent. Keep them coming if you can.
Some mistakes I found along the way:
“Anyone Want a snort?” Caraway asks.
“Then would the former candidate for Sheriff, like a plate? I bear you no ill will despite the last time you graced the Babylon.” - Shouldn’t it be: “Then, would the former candidate for Sheriff like a plate?”
When speaking to Preston during the Steele chapter, it still says Spanish countess.
The axe showed up during my Asian playthrough, but not during my Mighty Whitey one, and I played basically the same character, I have to ask: What exactly makes the axe available? No an error of the gameplay, but a doubt.
Some time later, the two of finally untangle - the two of you
With “Countessa”, do you mean “Condesa” or am I being ignorant about nobility and titles?
“We have recently become away of each other’s affection for you, Doi Yue Wong.” Maria states as if merely making an observation. - Become aware
About your question, oh, yes, it does look natural and I love that it is not overly descriptive. Five people found out you were cheating on them with other four people, and that is it. I liked how it ended and the options of how to choose a partner. For example, taking María’s hand as she walks beside you, etc.
If I didn’t know the pain in the butt that must be coding the game, on top of writing all the possible outcomes, I’d suggest making Regina romanceable, haha.
About the “when two romances crash and burn” scenes, here is what I think of each one.
Caraway – Preston: He shocked me, I never got the cue to tell Caraway that I kissed the town’s ass before chapter eight, but I never thought Preston would do that to Carrie.
María – Preston: Damn, that was intense, even more so than the confrontation with Caraway.
María – Yiska: I knew it! I knew they would make a fine couple themselves if they weren’t with a rascal like my Marshal. Aw, just aw. I’m not a romantic individual, believe it or not, but that was pretty adorable.
María – Caraway: YES! That is all I can type. My three favourite ladies, the Marshal, María, and Carrie making history as a polyamorous, homosexual relationship in the wild west. And kicking ass, lots of that as well. Beautiful.
Yiska – Schmidt: This resolution was surprisingly cute, I dare to say.
Yiska – Preston: Wow, Preston is one huge Tsundere, isn’t he? Like out of a macro mocking Japanese animation clichés: “N-no, of course I don’t love you, baka!” His kokoro is all doki-doki right now, ha.
I didn’t think that there would be this diversity in the scenarios for the romantic outcomes, I was very, very wrong. Each scenario has its own predominant emotion that makes it unlike the other quarrels. Nice, very nice detail.
“Well, China did invent steel long before anyone in Europe.” I love this line, by the way.
@AllenGies
Preston and MC : “Some time later, the two of finally untangle.”
I think this should be “the two of you”
Preston and MC “The kiss is a powerful thing that that obliterates all thought as anger burns up into something else.”
That is in the sentence twice.
Yiska: “His sigh seens a fragile thing that could be shattered by the lightest touch.”
I think this should be “seems” instead of “seens”
The men you hired send word that they are in the Mother-Lode, waiting to take up some work.
Double comma error.
MC says to Preston: 'If your expect me to… do anything."
Should this be “expecting” instead of “expect”?
Talking to Schmidt and MC asks of he is getting old. He says: “Starting the feel that way. All sorts of little twinges telling me to slow down.”
I think that should be “starting to feel that way.”
Yiska and MC: “He offers over the briefest of toe-curling kisses and the slips away with a happy smile.”
Should that be “and then slips away”?
Miss Carraway: “Hello there, Marshal.” She says, holds up a hand to greet you. “What brings you sweet voice on by?”
Should that be “your sweet voice.”?
BTW This line makes me laugh everytime. After telling Preston: “It will be a cold day in hell” he says: “Or a warm day in heaven.” He retorts, “and I’m already heating up.” ;
Hmm, how do you meet Little Boots?
Sadly didn’t get to try my new obsidian war ax, because when I tried to get Snake to come in peacefully he drew down on me, oh well.
So I presume there’s a trick to getting the deputy you want? I tried to get Schmidt, but he refused, I don’t know if I didn’t have enough persuasion, not enough schmidt favor, or if I just said the wrong things.
Carson of course is an out of towner and I felt my lovely lady of war Carrie would best not be put in such a potentially awkward position considering her family, so I ended up with Deputy Andy.
