hahaha01357- Hungry Snake is intended to be a tough opponent. After all, he is trying to kill you this time. However, I may adjust that downward if it is too difficult.
His break points for the gunfighting options are 1) 66 for a clean victory. 56 for a victory with a heavy health loss but unless you are fighting alone, you’ll survive. 2) the second track has breakpoints at 62 and 52 with health loss but again, unless you are fighting alone, you’ll survive. 3) The third is 52 and 42 with a failure option shifting things over to hand to hand. Anything below those marks means death because he doesn’t miss.
His brawling breakpoints are a little unusual. A 60 is pure victory (As is possessing the obsidian war-axe, but we’ll get to that. So excited.). Then, starting down from 58, the scale decreases for each round that follows as you figure out how to fight him. However, if you can’t dispatch him after four or five rounds, he then figures out your technique and will kill you.
@AllenGies
Just re-checked my stats - 51 gunfighting and 45 brawling - i guess there’s no way I can win the one-on-one with Hungry Snake eh? How do I get the obsidian war-axe?
@AllenGies welcome its nice to find a place my talent for being a perfectionist is useful and yeah I like finding the war axe I thought it was quite fun and unexpected. It was definitely worth it, I really enjoy it when you are facing Hungry Snake and ‘you tap your obsidian war axe’. I was just thinking hmm… Most interesting
You accomplished that. It was well done, gave you idea of how the temp and weather possibilities were shifting not so much. Yay Im so glad for this! I’m excited to see when this will be released.

hahaha01357- You might be able to squeeze out a last moment parry,parry,parry, parry, lunge routine with the hand to hand, but that sort of ballet feels too much of an onus on a player who can’t see what is going on behind the scenes.
Did it feel as though you were not focusing on combat skills prior to Chapter 7? I am getting the feeling that I may have to take Hungry Snake down a peg.
---------Spoiler---------
The Obsidian war-ax has two requirements; the first that you meet the tribe of Shoshone on the move in Chapter six and offer them gifts. In return, if you don’t have a proper melee weapon, Taboonsheya will offer you the obsidian war-axe. After all, it is dangerous out there.
Kitty9- Glad you liked that. Obsidian War-Axes are a cultural artifact of the region, a kind of weapon woven into myths and legends that have been passed down through the generations. Excalibur, the Green Destiny or other weapons of renown would qualify in different parts of the world. Just having the ax in hand has a profound psychological impact against Native American opponents because they know the tales associated with being on the receiving end of it.
The next and final Interlude is up. More Romance than I expected, especially when dealing with the resolution of multiple partners. It got so complicated and lengthy that I had to split it off from Chapter Eight.
I could really use people’s input on this as I am worried that I might have missed something and am unable to see it on my own.
Is this the absolute end? Or is there a tiny bit more to come? I hope so. I didn’t know thise things about the war axe but it is impressive the effect the right weapon can give.
@AllenGies
Ah, I traded with them and got a fur cloak instead, I though that was the more respectful approach. (thought they might suspect something if I give them gifts out of nothing) Actually, I wasn’t really pressed into training my fighting stats so far, with the exception of maybe the encounter aganst the bear (which is why my sharpshooting is in the sixties). I talked my way out of all other encounters (or made use of my friends).
@AllenGies
Noticed a very small problem with the use of the save system:
The 2nd (1st) slot has a default save name, but it’s the example one, that means it autofills the name box with the words “This Uses the Optional 3rd Parameter!” - which in game context, looks a little bit silly:
#${savemod_slot_1}
*sm_save 1 | true | This Uses the Optional 3rd Parameter!
You could remove it, to automatically generate a date, like the other slots:
Kitty9- I’m still working on Chapter 8. It is possible that it will run too long (lots of possible brancing) and I will have to do a short chapter 9 as well as the epilogue and wrap up.
@AllenGies Believe me I have no problem with that whatsoever! I think I have to say that this is my favourite story on the forum, and I am very glad I found it.
12lexy12- There are a few outcomes where you can make arrangements with two partners. But having multiple romances usually means you will have to make a choice eventually. Life, especially in a small town, is like that.
CJW- Ah, good catch. I should remove that and replace it with chapter designated checkpoints or the like. It seems I have been treating your code as a magic-box which I dare not tamper with lest the goose inside cease to spill forth golden eggs.
