Thought you might want those.

@AllenGies When you are sent over to inspect the river, does the prospector, cowboy( Forgot their names…), and Ms. Caraway all go with you? I know we get to choose, but the monologues/dialogues changes from all three characters even though you only chose to go with one of them.

Interesting, I actually liked the prospector character the best as a sidekick. His skills tend to compliment mine the best as I tend to build characters who specialize in eitehr fighting or talking, and tend to ignore the wilderness skills.

Caraway reminds me of Calamity Jane on Deadwood. I tend not to use her because most of my characters already specialize in gunfighting and I generally dislike characters who are drunks.

I like the character of Ben Carson though. It’s hard to write a religious/morally upright character who doesn’t come across as a crazed zealot or a sanctimonious killjoy.

Furthermore, the given names sometimes form a composite nick-name.

I don’t understand, you mean: Richard = Dick. It does happen, likely then, though unlikely now.

Since the character is a woman, you might want to consider adding “ita” at the end. Carmencita, for example. The closest translation could be “little Carmen”, it can work as an endearing nick-name. Lupe is used for the ones named Guadalupe, like Lupita (female only).

I’d love to see this character as a romantic interest, if I may mention it, ha. Always lovely to see Hispanic/Latin American characters.

ArchAngel950- Yeah, Schmidt gets a little touchy in Chapter 3 where the Red Ribbon Mining company is concerned, mainly because he knows most of the people there. If you shoot even a few of them, he gets upset. Do you think it would make a difference if I had him say more firmly that he doesn’t want to see anyone get hurt?

Your character Ash Temple is interesting. I notice you went low law and order but high honor. I’m glad to see that can be done. How did it play?

DonkeyKong- Sounds like I screwed up some of the coding there. probably with a _status indicator instead of _companion. Do you remember any of the text in particular? That always makes it easy to find the exact place in the code.

Vermander- I’m glad someone likes poor lonely Schmidt. He’s got some great bear fighting stories and tricks up his sleeve. And as you noticed, he’s real good at Wilderness survival.

Caraway certainly is a drinker, though I wouldn’t yet call her a drunk. She certainly could go that way though, now that I think about it. Whiskey was notoriously easy to find on the frontier, and the reasons to indulge were many.

For Ben Carson, I’m still surprised how much some people like him. Apparently, I just got lucky writing the man.

VoodooDolly- Some of the composite nicknames seem to run as follows. Juan Fernando becomes Juanfer. Ana Isabel~ Anabel. And so on. That is of course in addition to the usual application of a diminutive suffix as you noted.

I don’t think I’ll be able to use Catalina or Carmen for her name though. There already is Miss Caraway and Ben Carson, both of whose names start with C. As a general rule, I try to avoid having too many names that start with the same letter as it can confuse the reader; not unlike Sauron and Saurman from the Lord of the Rings.

But I’ll have to come up with something pretty quick because she is descending tomorrow morning.

@AllenGies: Probably not, because what I did when he was around is have the Shoshone and Miners make a deal, but the Shoshone apparently got the short end of the stick. Nobody got hurt, and Schmidt still got mad and left.

And he was with me even though I decided to take Miss Caraway with me. Is that supposed to happen?

I tried to focus on stuff that would get me better skills, and tried to talk my way out of the Miner mission, and let Miss Caraway’s dad have the wagon full of gold. I didn’t want to attack him because Miss Caraway didn’t agree with it, and… I like Miss Caraway. :stuck_out_tongue:

Sadly, that also translated into not getting any Notoriety except when killing the bear.

Oh, I see. Still, it is seldom used. Something more common would be getting nick-names like everybody else does; due to being a lone wolf, a good shooter, etc.

For names, let me see: Adelita, Adriana, Agata, Agustina, Alicia, Alma, Ángela, Blanca, Carlota, Carmela, Carolina, Claudia, Dalia, Elena, Elvira, Esmeralda, Esther, Estrella, Eva, Felicia, Gabriela, Irene, Isabel, Juana, Lola (Dolores, diminutive), Magdalena, Margarita, Marisa, Mercedes, blah, blah, blah.

For last names, perhaps Herrera, Capote, Ríos…

Pick Agustina Rios…

I have been enjoying this game so far and its been fun to play through, and with this Spanish name thing Gabriela stood out in that list. Just a suggestion though, keep up the good work!

ArchAngel 950- That does sound like an error where Schmidt is concerned. I’ll look into it. Do you recall any of the text from that particular oddity?

VoodooDolly- Thanks for the listing. It may be possible that, after you get to know the lady in question long enough, that you get to dispense a nick-name upon her. But I’ll have to see about that as it comes.

Player- Oooh. Augstina. I like that one. Better than Victoria, or at least less British.

spyfox259- Thanks. I’m glad you are enjoying the beta. Gabriela is a good name… and I think it is what the Lady might have called herself were that an option. Alas, she has a very long family name.

Just that whenever your partner (in this case, Miss Caraway) would speak, he would speak as well. In fact, that’s how I figured out he would leave pretty much no matter what I did.

ArchAngel950- Yes, if you bring Caraway along then there isn’t supposed to be anyone else. I’m trying to figure out where exactly this occurs so I can fix it. This has not proven to be an easy task. Tell me, on the stat screen does it say that your companion is both Miss Caraway and Dan Schmidt?

Yes, it does.

Ah. It isn’t reading the set schmidt_companion 0 from the previous chapter. That makes it an easy fix. Thank you.

I aim to please.

And to kill. But not in this case. :stuck_out_tongue:
